Chapter 4: AN ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE

"We know." Tansy lowered her head; she looked sad now. "But that’s not enough reason for you to talk like that to Eudora."

Seara should have known it: there was no win against Eudora, since she was the sweetheart for this pack. The beautiful Eudora, who was so unfortunate not to find her destined mate even though she had reached twenty-four years old now.

Not only that, the man that was supposed to be with her was stolen by the adoptive daughter of the gamma.

Yes, people saw the mate bond between Seara and Daven as Seara stole Eudora’s mate.

It was still a wonder why they thought that way.

Even with her parents, when it came between Seara and Eudora, they would side with the pack’s sweetheart.

"Seara, you need to apologize to her and clear things up with Daven," Tansy said softly and patiently, as if she were trying to talk sense into Seara’s thick skull. "What the Alpha has done was awful. I know. He shouldn’t have done that. But he is remorseful, and you should be able to forgive him. It was a mistake; he has talked to us, and we understand."

Seara should have known that they would never have her back. Would it be different if she were really their daughter?

"So, if Father cheated on you, you would forgive and forget?" Seara couldn’t help it; the words left her lips before she could stop herself.

"Seara!" Tansy covered her mouth; she reacted as if Seara had cursed at her.

"How dare you say that?!" The former gamma Javen roared angrily, and he slapped Seara. It was not as strong as Daven’s, but still, it was a slap that was filled with anger nonetheless.

Javen stood up and he pulled Tansy up with him as well. The two of them looked at Seara with heavy disappointment, as if everything that happened were her fault.

"Daven is the alpha of the pack; for you to have him as a mate should be counted as a blessing. Even when he made a mistake, which he immediately regretted, you shouldn’t have made a big deal. Both of them have been together for so long; their emotions are deep. But at the end of the day, you are his mate. He will come back to you."

"I don’t want him to come back to me!" Seara snapped at her father. "Tell him to go to Eudora; I don’t want him anymore!"

"Don’t be ungrateful, Seara!" Tansy screamed to her face. "You should reflect on your actions; this is why Daven doesn’t take you seriously, because you act immaturely. Learn more like Eudora."

"What do you mean? Learn how to be a cheater?"

Another slap landed on her cheek again, and this time it was harder than the previous one. Seara felt the room was spinning, as Javen’s voice echoed in her head; he screamed his head off at her for the disrespect.

"Reflect on your actions, Seara!"

That was the last thing that Javen said before he took his mate out of her room and didn’t forget to slam the door behind them.

Once she was alone again, Seara cried her heart out; she felt the heaviness weighing in her chest, as if there were a ton of bricks that pressed her down.

She didn’t know how long she cried, and in her exhaustion, she fell asleep again, but later that night, when Seara finally woke up and she was done crying her heart out, she decided that she couldn’t stay in this pack and torture herself more than this.

She didn’t have much in her possession, but she had enough to get her out of this pack and provide for herself for a few weeks until she got a job.

With that thought, Seara put all of her important things into a small bag and went out of the room. It was very quiet.

She didn’t know where to go, but any place would be better than being trapped in this pack, surrounded by people who wanted to hurt her, who were fine with her being hurt.

Seara took a deep breath and started to walk through the pack’s territory. She knew the less heavily guarded area, so she could sneak out without anyone knowing.

She had to move quickly before anyone could stop her...

Seara ran for her life. She didn’t dare to slow down, even though her legs were in pain and screamed at her to stop.

Her pursuers were so close. She couldn’t risk getting caught; it would be the end of her.

[Seara! Come back here!]

Her father’s voice boomed in her head as he mind-linked her furiously. He was among the pursuers, with her brother and Daven.

Armed with a dozen warriors of the Blackthorne Pack, Seara’s chance to escape the pack was close to none. Still, she had to try. The border of the pack was so close, she could feel it.

In her wolf form, Seara pumped her legs faster, begging the Moon Goddess to show her some miracle as adrenaline rushed in her veins, numbing the pain from the branches that welted her and sharp edges of stones that cut her legs and skin as she ran through the forest.

She knew this place; she had run in this area very often.

A little bit more. A little bit more. She told herself.

Her backpack got caught in one of the branches; it halted her a bit as the things inside spilled out, but Seara didn’t stop to collect them.

She needed to shift back into her human form to rearrange the items into her bag, which would take time, and she didn’t have that; therefore, she abandoned them entirely.

She could find a way to get new clothes once she got out of this pack. There was nothing more important for her right now than to get out of this hellish place.

[Seara, you are dead if I get my hand on you!]

Her brother, Gamma Silas, snarled viciously in her mind.
