Chapter 16: MY MATE
This was one of the reasons why Lycans were feared; they were predators by nature. They wouldn’t back down a challenge, especially for the king.
A slight defiance was enough for them to assert who ruled the realm.
Their number might not be a lot, but they were immortal, ancient beings who had survived countless eras and ruled the shifters in this realm.
"King Zade," Daven cleared his throat and helped his gamma out of trouble as he tried to appease the king. "You don’t know that woman."
Daven glanced at Seara in the Lycan’s arms. He couldn’t see her face, but he knew it was her, though her body had changed drastically. He saw her legs, and they were... only bones. He balled his fists as he had a mix of emotions.
"That woman is a runt. She is a sign of misfortune. The Moon Goddess had taken her blessing by taking away her wolf spirit." Daven swallowed with difficulty, feeling his mouth go dry. "You must know about the tradition, King Zade. A runt should be killed, but our pack is kind enough to let her live."
Zade didn’t really hear what Daven was saying, but the moment he mentioned that he was going to kill Seara, his blue eyes were slightly darkened.
If it were not for the woman in his arms who needed immediate treatment and the way she trembled in fear, as she clutched his front shirt, Zade would have cut his tongue for what he was saying.
Zade held Seara against his chest possessively and protectively, as if she were the most precious thing that he owned. He wouldn’t let anyone touch her.
It took him a lot of effort to finally manage to hold her.
She wanted to leave the cell, but when she saw that there were a lot of people out there, she scrambled back, trembling in fear.
Without a doubt, these people were the ones who were responsible for what happened to her, and they just confirmed that.
"King Zade," Daven called to Zade again. He suppressed the fear that crept in and tried to stop the Lycan from taking Seara away.
He was well aware that what the pack had done to Seara was not right. Death would be a mercy, but... it brought a consolation for him to know that she was alive.
And even after so many years had passed, and Daven had Eudora by his side, seeing Seara again made him feel something.
He couldn’t let anyone bring her away. Yet, how could he stop the Lycan king?
"I can’t allow you to bring her away. This is for your own good." Daven moved so fast that he stood in front of Zade, putting his life in danger.
"Do I ask for your permission?" Zade asked darkly as he felt Seara tremble even more, and she buried her face against his chest.
"King Zade, if you want a woman, I can give you any other woman from my pack; you can choose which one to your liking. They will be honored to serve you." Daven tried to offer anything that he could think of.
If it were any other person, he would have asked how much money they wanted or mobilized all the warriors to stop him.
However, Daven’s money was pale in comparison to the wealth that the royal Lycan held, and his pack would be doomed if he made an aggressive first move against the king of the Lycans. Their kind was well known as the people who held grudges and vengeance so well.
Zade didn’t even spare Daven a second glance when he walked ahead. "Kill him if he stands in my way."
The tension was so high, and the air became even colder as Zade’s murderous intent suffused the night. He would have done it himself; unfortunately, he had another priority to focus on.
Zephyr was still in his beast form, and he wiggled his tail when he heard the order. It had been a while since he had a good fight. Sitting behind a desk and dealing with paper was not really his thing.
The royal gamma even prayed for the Alpha to be bold enough to block Zade’s way.
But to his disappointment, Daven stepped aside when Zade walked past him. He stared at the Lycan king, but he did nothing to stop him from leaving with the woman in his arms.
Zephyr’s brown beast growled, feeling disappointed with the anticlimax. The beast even snarled at the other warriors behind him, trying to gauge their reaction.
However, Ace grabbed him by his hump and directed him in the opposite direction, following Zade, who had walked further.
What a letdown...
Meanwhile, Daven and Silas had their eyes on the Lycan king. They didn’t move from their position even when they had disappeared into the dark forest.
The night was cold, and the rain started pouring down again.
Just like that, the Lycans had taken Seara away from the pack.
Her presence was not wanted, but it didn’t mean Daven and Silas wanted someone else to take her away.

"Soooo..." Zephyr drawled the word as he glanced at Zade through the rearview mirror. "Who is she?"
In the reflection, Zephyr saw how carefully Zade was holding the woman in his arms. The royal gamma couldn’t see her face, but he swore he would think the woman was dead because he had never seen someone as skinny as her. She was literally only bones and skin.
And even though Zephyr wouldn’t say it out loud, seeing how Zade held her like his most prized possession, he had to admit that a homeless person looked better than this woman.
The smell...
The smell that came from this woman made Zephyr’s sensitive senses uncomfortable. It was a wonder how Zade held her so close and didn’t realize it.
Meanwhile, Ace didn’t show any emotions as he waited for Zade to answer the question.
And after a long silence, finally, Zade spoke curtly. "My mate."
