Chapter 1: THE SHATTERED REALITY
Chapter 1: THE SHATTERED REALITY
There were voices coming from Daven’s room—and there was no mistake about it.
Seara’s heart was pounding painfully against her chest. Her intuition warned her not to go and check the source of these lewd noises, but her body didn’t want to listen to her.
She kept walking toward the library of the pack house, where the sound was getting louder and clearer. Their moans echoed softly against the wall.
The door was slightly ajar, and through the crack, Seara could see what they were doing. Her heart shattered, and her world crumbled as she witnessed it.
Daven was in a compromising position with Eudora, his beta’s twin sister, whom he said not to worry about since he thought of her as his ’little sister.’
Well, that ’little sister’ was moaning his name and had her legs wrapped around his body right now.
Daven was Seara’s mate...
A mate for a shifter was supposed to be for a lifetime; the mate bond was a blessing from the Moon Goddess, a sacred bond that you couldn’t take lightly.
The bond should have been strong enough to prevent such things from happening, but from the look of it, it didn’t stop Daven from being pleased by Eudora.
They were too engrossed in their act of betrayal to the point that they didn’t even realize someone else was watching their actions.
Seara should have run to save herself from the heartache or to confront them and let out her grievances; instead, she watched everything, unable to move. The shock left her paralyzed.
Her body was not willing to cooperate. She felt her legs rooted in the same place.
The betrayal was like a knife that was twisted in her heart.
Inside the library, the scent of sex was very strong, lingering in the air from their salacious act.
When Eudora reached her climax, she caught sight of Seara, who was still standing stupidly at the door, and smirked. She moaned even louder as if she wanted to be sure Seara would hear her.
And then followed by Daven. He buried his face in her neck, and Seara thought he was going to mark her, but when both of them had found their release and Daven lifted his head, there was no sign of his mark on Eudora’s neck.
It didn’t make things better for Seara, though.
"Seara?"
It was Eudora; she pretended to be surprised, as if she hadn’t provoked Seara earlier.
The mention of her name shattered the spell, throwing Seara back to reality, and Daven’s body went rigid. He turned his head so fast, as if he were going to break his neck.
"Seara..." Daven met Seara’s eyes, and there was an embarrassed and guilty look in them.
Why would he be mortified when this was his wrongdoing?
"Seara?" Daven immediately covered himself and pushed Eudora away from him. He got off the table, where Eudora sprawled, and put on his boxers. "No, it is not what you think."
Classic.
Would he tell her they were only checking each other’s bodies and wish for Seara to believe that?
However, before Daven could feed Seara his bullshit, she had turned around. She shifted into her beautiful white wolf form and rushed away from the scene.
She ignored Daven’s plea for her to stop, while Eudora tried to make the Alpha stay.
"Give Seara some time; she will be alright. She is in shock," Eudora said with her sickly-sweet voice, trying to stop Daven from following her.
The audacity of that woman was appalling.
Seara would never be alright. There was no version of her that would be alright with the betrayal.
It was dinner time, and Seara looked for Daven because she couldn’t find him anywhere. Brigid said he was in the library; therefore, she went there to look for him.
Seara went down the stairs and ran past the dinner hall, where the pack members were having their meal and chatting with each other.
They looked so happy, but Seara had just found something that turned her world upside down.
She rushed through the sound of people laughing and teasing, and their cheerful mood carried the image of the cruel thing her mate had done to her.
She ran away as fast as she could to escape Daven’s attempt to mind link her; she shut her mind and kept going until it was quiet because she was too far for Daven to reach her through the mindlink.
By the time Seara stopped running and shifted back into her human form, she had already run very deep into the forest, so close to crossing the border of her pack territory.
There was no going back from what she had witnessed.
Seara stared at the darkness around her, but instead of fear, she felt the pain in her heart.
It shattered her mind and heart as she wailed to the void, asking the question that she didn’t have the answer to. "Why did you do this to me...?"
Daven was the alpha of the Blackthorne Pack; he became the alpha a year ago when he reached twenty-four years old.
Meanwhile, Eudora was Rexton’s twin sister. He was Daven’s close friend, whom he appointed as the beta for the pack when Daven became the alpha. They were childhood friends
They had known each other since they were little; people thought Daven and Eudora were mates when they came of age.
Yet, Seara crushed their expectation when she turned out to be Daven’s destined mate, only a week after Daven’s ceremony, as he held the title of the alpha.
She turned seventeen, and that was the right age for a shifter to be able to sense their mate.
Many people disagreed with her as the future luna of the pack because she was not as lovely as Eudora, and she was the gamma’s adopted little sister.
But Daven stood by her side. He reassured her that he only wanted her.
He chose her.
He defended her.
Until he no longer did...
