Chapter 23: Chapter 23: School Enrollment (EC)
"You’re the Devil Hunter named Kotone Asaba, aren’t you? What brings you to our school all of a sudden?"
The principal’s tone was both surprised and confused.
Hearing that, Kotone Asaba felt a little surprised. His current fame had apparently grown so much that even the principal in front of him could recognize him.
"I want to experience school life. I can take the entrance exam normally, but I probably won’t stay here for very long. During that time, I’ll be responsible for security on campus. If any Devils appear, I’ll deal with them immediately."
Kotone Asaba spoke frankly.
The expression on the principal’s face instantly became a little blank. He had not expected that this genius had come here because he wanted to attend school.
He guessed that Kotone Asaba might have skipped high school because he became a Devil Hunter, so now he wanted to come here and experience high school life.
"Then let’s arrange an assessment for you first."
The principal immediately stood up and rummaged through the cabinets behind him.
Soon, he found a test paper. It did not look like a specialized entrance exam, but an ordinary comprehensive test. It only contained content from three subjects, Japanese, math, and English.
In truth, he was simply a little curious about Kotone Asaba’s academic level, so he had only taken out a test that was not very difficult. Even if Kotone Asaba’s final score turned out to be poor, he would still let Kotone Asaba enroll.
Although this situation went against the rules, rules were rigid while people were flexible. What mattered was the boy’s identity as a Devil Hunter and the great achievements he had already made.
On top of that, he would also protect the students on campus from Devil attacks. That was definitely a tremendous benefit.
Kotone Asaba took the test paper and casually glanced at it, then discovered that it was very simple. He said nothing about it and immediately began working.
He finished the test easily, then checked it over again. Although there was no real need, he wanted to treat it seriously.
Only after confirming there were no issues did he hand the paper to the principal.
"You finished that quickly?"
This was somewhat beyond the principal’s expectations. Normally, this test would be given an hour and a half, but Kotone Asaba had finished it in just over half an hour.
He immediately put on his reading glasses and began grading the paper against the answer key with a stern expression.
The further he got, the more astonished his expression became.
Because he did not find a single wrong answer. It remained that way all the way to the final question. Kotone Asaba had directly scored full marks...
The principal’s eyes widened in shock, disbelief flashing through them.
He had originally thought that Kotone Asaba’s academic level would not be very high, but the result had far exceeded his expectations.
A Devil Hunter with such terrifying strength actually had this level of education?
Although he did not understand Devil Hunters very well, he still knew that people in such a dangerous profession usually found it very hard to calm down and focus on a single task, especially something like studying.
Because of that, Kotone Asaba’s situation felt incredibly hard to believe.
At that moment, the principal slowly set down the pen he had used to grade the paper and looked at Kotone Asaba with admiration. "Full marks! Excellent! However, school has already been in session for some time. You’ll have to enter a class as either a late-enrolling student or a transfer student. Would you like to learn about the different classes first?"
"Then please let me see the class rosters."
The principal immediately gave Kotone Asaba the rosters for each class.
Kotone Asaba skimmed through all of them and discovered that Kobeni Higashiyama was in Class 1 of the second-year students. "This one, then. Second Year, Class 1."
"Second Year, Class 1? Class 1 is the advanced class. I’ll explain the situation to the teacher in charge of Class 1."
The principal said.
"All right."
Kotone Asaba roughly understood what the principal meant.
The advanced class was basically similar to the highest-level honors class in high school from his previous life.
Ordinary classes, college-prep classes, and advanced classes could be compared to regular classes, honors classes, and top-track classes from his previous life. The names were just different.
A class like the advanced class would definitely move at a very fast pace and place high demands on students. The principal was probably worried that Kotone Asaba would not be able to keep up and might get lectured by the teacher, so he wanted to explain things in advance.
Although Kotone Asaba would definitely have no problem keeping up in the advanced class with his learning ability, he did not say anything more to the principal.
Speaking of which, Class 1, where Kobeni Higashiyama was, was the advanced class. That meant Kobeni Higashiyama’s grades were very good.
But Kobeni’s family would not let her continue on to college, wasting such excellent academic performance for nothing.
"As for your identity, either a late-enrolling student or a transfer student will work. If you want, you can choose one yourself."
"Then I’ll be a transfer student."
Maybe it was because he had watched too much anime in his previous life, but compared to a late-enrolling student, Kotone Asaba preferred the identity of a transfer student.
"Mm. Today, I’ll prepare your textbooks, uniform, and other things first. You can officially start school tomorrow morning. For now, wait here for a moment."
After saying that, the principal went to make a phone call.
The process was much simpler than Kotone Asaba had imagined. The principal did not ask for his ID, nor did he ask for his student records. He had simply agreed without hesitation.
Of course, he did have an ID. His name and identification had both come with him when he transmigrated, and he had not possessed someone else’s body. His entire person had directly crossed over.
After that, Kotone Asaba sat in the principal’s office and drank tea with him.
"Have you attended high school before?"
The principal personally brewed the tea, then poured a cup for Kotone Asaba. He did not seem to be treating him like a student, but rather like a guest.
"I have. You could say I temporarily dropped out to become a Devil Hunter."
There was nothing wrong with what Kotone Asaba said. Before transmigrating, he had been a high school student. After transmigrating here, he became a Devil Hunter. He probably had no way to return to his original world and continue school, so it was more or less the same as dropping out.
"No wonder your academic foundation is so good. But why do you only plan to study here for a while? Are you thinking of focusing on being a Devil Hunter again in the future?"
"Mm..."
Kotone Asaba casually answered, since he could not tell the truth.
"That’s fine too. It’s a noble ambition."
Now that Kotone Asaba could be considered one of his students, the principal actually hoped that he could live a normal school life, hunt Devils only occasionally, and not spend every single day in such danger.
However, that was only his hope. He would definitely respect Kotone Asaba’s own decision.
In this way, Kotone Asaba and the principal drank tea and chatted for quite a while. After that, someone brought over textbooks, a uniform, and other things.
The principal still had to make other related arrangements, while Kotone Asaba brought those things home.
