Chapter 37: Chapter 34: Good Thing I Held Something Back
The next second, an immense, irresistible force slammed violently into his back!
THUD—!
A dull, heart-stopping crash.
Chen Lin felt as if he’d been hit head-on by a speeding truck. The air was instantly forced from his lungs, his vision went black, and he nearly passed out.
And yet, after the searing pain subsided, he was amazed to find he was still conscious.
What’s more, his injuries seemed far less severe than he’d expected!
That speaker must have weighed more than three grown men combined. A direct hit like that should have left him crippled, if not dead.
But now, he felt like he could still move? He could even get up off the ground?
Before Chen Lin could figure it out, two tearful shrieks rang out beside him.
"Chen!"
"Junior!"
Shen Yan and Yunqing, snapping back to their senses, rushed over like madwomen. Their pretty faces were pale with fright, and they hovered around him helplessly, their voices filled with unconcealable panic and fear.
"How are you? Where are you hurt? Is it serious?"
"I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry, it’s all my fault. If I hadn’t asked you to come help..." Yunqing’s tears fell like pearls from a broken string as she blamed herself incoherently.
Shen Yan didn’t speak, but her cool, clear eyes were also brimming with tears. She bit her lip hard, her body trembling uncontrollably with lingering fear.
The two workers scrambled over, the older one so weak-kneed he had to be supported by his colleague. He apologized profusely, his face even paler than before.
The younger worker supporting him quickly explained, "Sorry, so sorry, kid! We’ve been working all day, and we were so busy we skipped lunch. He might have low blood sugar..."
Chen Lin looked at their terrified, guilt-ridden faces and knew they hadn’t done it on purpose. He couldn’t bring himself to blame these unfortunate men who earned their living through blood and sweat.
He grit his teeth against the pain in his back, pushed himself into a sitting position, and said to the two girls, "I’m fine..."
Before the words were even out of his mouth, Yunqing, having collected herself, was already handling the situation more adeptly than he was. While pulling out her phone to call for an ambulance, she snapped at the two workers, "Enough talk! Leave your contact information!"
Only after confirming that Chen Lin really didn’t seem to be seriously injured—he could even hop in place a couple of times—did Yunqing finally breathe a small sigh of relief.
She still called over a few school security guards to help the two workers move the speaker, its corner now damaged from the fall, back onto their truck.
Watching the truck drive away, Yunqing immediately turned around and said to Chen Lin in a tone that permitted no argument, "Now, we’re going straight to the hospital for a full check-up!"
Shen Yan nodded vigorously beside her, her gaze resolute.
Chen Lin groaned inwardly.
’Go to the hospital? Isn’t that walking right into a trap!’
While waiting for Yunqing to deal with the workers, he had secretly checked the string of system messages that had flashed by.
[Host has encountered immense danger!]
[Probability of injury: 95%! Probability of disability: 33%! Probability of death: 9.9%!]
[System elevating to maximum priority to handle the crisis autonomously!]
[Host detected to possess one Little Red Flower!]
[System will automatically use the Little Red Flower to enhance the "Little Champion" title!]
[Enhancement complete! Probability of injury: 15%! Probability of disability: 3%! Probability of death: 0.1%!]
[Autonomous crisis management complete! System will revert to standard permissions!]
After reading those lines, Chen Lin broke out in a cold sweat.
’Thank god! Thank god I held back and didn’t rush to use the Little Red Flower on "Little Mathematician"!’
’Otherwise, even if I hadn’t died today, there was a good chance I would have spent the rest of my life in a hospital bed!’
But this also meant he absolutely could not go to the hospital.
Chen Lin looked at the system interface:
[Title: Little Champion (Enhanced)]
[Little Champion: Your strength, jumping ability, speed, and other physical attributes are increased by 200%!]
’Who knows what the principle behind "Little Champion’s" physical enhancement is?’
’What if the doctors find nothing wrong with me, but discover my physical structure is different from a normal person’s? Wouldn’t that be a huge mess?’
He absolutely could not take that risk.
So, he put his powers of persuasion to work, promising he would go to the hospital for a check-up first thing in the morning and would tell them the results. After a Herculean effort, he finally managed to convince the two still-worried girls to temporarily abandon the idea of dragging him straight to the hospital.
Chen Lin glanced at his phone. It was already past eight in the evening.
"It’s already dark. How about we call it a day and all go home to rest?" he suggested tentatively.
Yunqing didn’t live in the school dorms, so Shen Yan and Chen Lin decided to walk her to the school gate first.
At the school gate, Yunqing repeatedly reminded Chen Lin to get a check-up the next day. Only after he had assured her again and again did she finally hail a cab and leave, looking back every few steps.
Beneath the streetlights, only Chen Lin and Shen Yan remained.
"I’ll walk you back to your dorm," Chen Lin offered.
"Okay," Shen Yan replied softly, not refusing.
The two walked side-by-side along the quiet campus path. For a moment, they were silent, and the atmosphere felt a little delicate.
After a long silence, Shen Yan suddenly stopped and turned to look at him seriously.
"Thank you for today." Her voice was quiet, but it carried an unprecedented gravity. "You saved me."
"I wasn’t really thinking. My body just moved on its own," Chen Lin said honestly, scratching his head.
Shen Yan watched him quietly for a few seconds, then, as if she had made a decision, said softly, "From now on, can we just call each other by our names? We don’t have to use ’classmate’ anymore."
Chen Lin was taken aback for a moment, but then he understood what she meant and a gentle smile spread across his face.
"Sure."
He saw the silhouette of the girls’ dormitory building not far away and stopped walking as well.
"I’ll walk you this far," he said softly, looking at her. "Goodnight, Shen Yan."
A faint smile blossomed on Shen Yan’s lips.
"Goodnight, Chen Lin."

「Meanwhile, at the Back Street Bar.」
Sun Yu gripped a glass of the cheapest beer, watching with irritation as the men and women in the bar whispered and laughed together.
The noise and dazzling lights were giving him a splitting headache.
This was the last place he’d checked within a few kilometers of Yannan University.
’A math god like "CL" must be a King of Competition who spends all his time studying in the library or a classroom. Why would he ever come to a place like a bar?’
But after wandering around the school for two days, asking every student and nearby shop owner he could find, no one had ever heard of such a person.
Left with no other choice, he had come here to try his luck as a last-ditch effort.
He had asked the bartender if he knew a guy who was incredibly good at math and also loved money. The bartender thought for a long while before shaking his head.
Sun Yu sighed in despair.
’How am I going to explain this to President Peng when I get back? Forget building a good relationship with the guy, I can’t even find him.’
Just as he was about to give up, he suddenly heard a staff member shout toward the bar, "Brother Wang, the promo video is edited! I’m gonna put it on the big screen so you can see how it looks!"
From behind the bar, the slightly chubby young man with a mustache answered, "Yeah, go for it!"
Sun Yu instinctively lifted his head and looked toward the huge LED screen in the center of the bar.
A young man’s profile appeared on the screen. He looked handsome under the lights, but there was still a trace of boyishness in his features.
The next second, a familiar piano intro began to play, and the young man picked up the microphone.
"Forgive me, this song, is a song written for no one..."
’Holy shit!’
Sun Yu’s eyes flew wide open. The beer glass in his hand fell onto the bar with a CLANG, spilling its contents everywhere.
’That voice! That damn voice! I’ve been hearing that voice explaining the proposal in my dreams for the past two days!’
He lunged toward the bar, grabbed the arm of the man called "Brother Wang," and asked urgently, his voice practically a roar:
"Who is that guy on the screen?! Tell me, now!!"
