Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Happy Farm 3

The robot took Moira Lynch to another waste disposal plant.

Compared to the previous one, this waste disposal plant was clearly much smaller, but it had just as much stuff inside. There was also something new: eggs that had failed to hatch.

Using her spiritual power to scan them, Moira Lynch could sense that some of the eggs were still alive. They were just developing too slowly to hatch yet.

However, according to Tucker Farms’ standards, even if they did hatch, these chicks would eventually be culled.

With the help of her spiritual power, Moira Lynch collected the eggs that could still hatch. As for the ones that couldn’t, or those where the embryo had died, she didn’t let them go to waste either, storing them all in her warehouse.

"These should still be edible after some processing."

After all, plenty of people considered developing eggs a delicacy.

Moira Lynch kept collecting like this until she had to stop just before the start of the next workday.

Outside the waste disposal plant, the robot was already waiting with a familiar bottle of blue liquid.

After inspecting the results of her labor, it couldn’t help but exclaim, "You’re truly the most diligent employee I’ve ever seen."

Moira Lynch understood this sentence and replied in her less-than-perfect interstellar language, "I’m just doing my job."

"The farm owner asked me to give you this."

Moira Lynch took the blue liquid and drank it all in one go. Her previous fatigue was instantly swept away, and even the headache from overusing her spiritual power vanished.

She had seen this item in the System Mall before. It was a high-grade Recovery Agent that could instantly restore stamina and spiritual power, keeping a person in their peak state. It was worth one hundred Gold Coins.

This alone showed just how wealthy Serene Ranch and this Tucker Farms were.

An item they gave out so casually was something she could never afford.

Arriving at her workstation, she saw that her task for the day was sorting newborn ducklings. The two familiar baskets were there, and Moira Lynch quickly got into her work rhythm.

Today’s batch of newborn ducklings was a good one. More than half the day passed without a single one failing to meet the standard.

She didn’t complain much, though. She just diligently carried out her duties.

Before entering the game, she had noticed something. Even though they all worked for the same three days, most other people received copper coins, while she alone had gotten three silver coins and even an Interstellar Learning Machine.

The difference was likely related to her work. As the saying goes, the more you work, the more you earn. If you do your job well, you get better pay.

Just like her. Not only did she complete her assigned tasks, but she also "moonlighted" as a garbage collector, so of course her compensation was different.

Moira Lynch worked hard, but repetitive tasks inevitably became dull. The first day was fine, as it was still novel.

But after a full night of harvesting yesterday, Moira Lynch found herself constantly looking forward to the end of her shift so she could go out and make a real haul.

Lost in thought, her movements began to slow.

Realizing the problem, Moira Lynch shook her head sharply. ’No, no. I can’t think like that. I have to do my job properly first. After all, my gaming qualification is on the line.’

She knew the difference between a single good meal and a steady supply of them.

Besides, sorting ducklings wasn’t so bad. It was also good for training her spiritual power.

Now, as long as the ducklings were within the range of her spiritual power, she could tell with perfect clarity whether they were healthy or not.

Moreover, she had discovered another wonderful use for her spiritual power: soothing.

Her spiritual power could actually calm these newborn ducklings, stopping their chirping. She could even use it to communicate with them.

However, since the ducklings were just born, they didn’t know anything. They could only emit chirps that conveyed basic needs like "hungry" or "cold." She’d probably have to wait until they were a little older for any real communication.

Still, this discovery excited Moira Lynch. She was, after all, raising quite a few animals in her space.

Even though most were enclosed by fences, some just couldn’t be contained—like that pack of dogs.

The Border Collies and German Shepherds were smart breeds; after she warned them a few times, they learned what they could and couldn’t do. But the new sled dogs ran wild as if they’d been let off the leash. They were completely uncontrollable. Truly worthy of the name "the three idiots of the sled dog world."

Most people had their hands full with just one, but she had a whole pack. Moira Lynch was even starting to regret bringing these dumb dogs back. Sled pulling? She might as well slide down the ice on her own butt.

Just like that, before she knew it, it was time to clock out. Today’s haul was ten unhealthy ducklings.

She received her task for the final day tomorrow from the gray bird, and surprisingly, it wasn’t sorting newborn goslings.

The Task Card clearly stated: Due to a machine malfunction, the farm’s waste has been piling up. The repair crew won’t arrive for another two days, which is a great source of distress for the owner of Tucker Farms.

As a farm that doubles as a rustic retreat, a clean environment is paramount. Therefore, in light of your excellent waste disposal ability, the farm owner has specially hired you to be in charge of cleaning the farm’s waste for the entire day tomorrow.

Moira Lynch stared at the card in her hand, reading it over and over, top to bottom. This surprise was a bit too sudden.

After confirming she hadn’t misread it, Moira Lynch immediately found yesterday’s robot. She showed it her task and said she could start work right away.

The robot looked at her, troubled, and suggested tactfully, "You don’t really have to push yourself so hard. It’s fine to rest for the night and start tomorrow."

This time, Moira Lynch understood the gist of it. She firmly declined. "There are a lot of people back home waiting for me. I can’t let them down."

The robot was moved by Moira Lynch’s selfless dedication. It led her to an absolutely enormous warehouse—yes, a warehouse, not a waste disposal plant.

"Inside are the machines the farm has decommissioned. The original plan was to just scrap them, but now they’re all yours. Compared to the other trash, this stuff is more valuable."

The robot was also just an employee on the farm. The most it could do to help was to lead her to some of the more valuable "trash."

Moira Lynch’s eyes widened as she looked at the rows upon rows of machines. ’They’re getting rid of all this?’

These were much better than the machines she had collected at Serene Ranch.

Even with her lack of expertise, she could tell these machines weren’t broken; they were still usable.

After getting a definitive answer, Moira Lynch went straight into a frenzy. When her spiritual power ran out, she started collecting them by hand. She could skip the other garbage, but she had to bring these machines back to Caelus.

After clearing out the entire warehouse, she followed the robot and began clearing out one waste disposal plant after another.
