Chapter 40: One Head
Violet entered Invisible Mode, swiftly moving behind the python.
The moment she arrived, she charged forward. Her target was the middle head.
Even after she reached the back of its neck, the python still hadn’t noticed her. One of its heads was even lunged at the man, Luca Carter.
At that exact moment, Violet swung her dagger at the python’s neck without holding back, using every ounce of strength she had.
Naturally, she deactivated Invisible Mode so she could unleash her full physical power.
Shua!
The dagger sliced effortlessly into the python’s neck, which was nearly twice as thick as a human body.
A smile appeared on Violet’s face...
But it froze a moment later.
The blade had only cut one-third of the way through before it stopped.
No—it wasn’t that it stopped.
It was being forced back out as the python’s neck regenerated at an astonishing speed.
At the same time, the python’s other two heads whipped toward her neck. There was no way it would ignore someone trying to sever one of its heads.
’So this is why I felt like I couldn’t kill this thing...’
Enzo took a deep breath, finding it difficult to believe.
He was still shocked that Violet’s strike had failed. After all, the dagger was an A+ Class Weapon that should have been capable of cutting through almost anything. It had indeed cut into the python’s neck, but its regeneration was simply faster.
In theory, with Enzo’s additional attributes, Violet’s combat power was already comparable to that of a Level 14 or even Level 15 Awakener.
Even so, she still couldn’t defeat this python.
The more Enzo thought about it, the more unbelievable it seemed.
But he had no intention of giving up.
Violet didn’t retreat.
She activated Instant Death, causing the python to tremble once again, although only slightly.
Then she sent her invisible Mana Threads toward the necks of the other two heads.
The threads were still faster.
Using them, Violet temporarily restrained the two heads.
With only two heads to deal with, she could hold them back for a short while.
Then she pulled back her dagger.
This time, Instant Death finally showed its true effect.
The python’s regeneration slowed to half its previous speed.
Violet slashed once more at the still-open wound.
This time, she pushed herself to the absolute limit.
She even burned through her vitality to strengthen her arm.
Shua!
The second slash was like a machine slicing through fruit.
In an instant, it cut halfway through the python’s neck, causing its middle head to droop heavily.
"Die...!"
Violet shouted as she drove the dagger even deeper until it reached the skin on the opposite side.
Her eyes lit up as the blade finally tore through it.
DING!
(Your character has severed one of the Three-Headed Python’s heads. You have obtained 1,000 SP!)
[SP: 1,100]
A notification suddenly appeared before Enzo.
He couldn’t have been more shocked.
But now wasn’t the time to think about it.
Using the python’s massive body as a foothold, Violet leaped downward.
She activated Invisible Mode again before sprinting out of the barrier of light.
She didn’t pull Luca Carter out with her. Instead, she released the Mana Threads binding him, allowing him to regain his footing and run out of the dome on his own.
ROAR!
The Three-Headed Python flew into a rage.
It rampaged wildly but still couldn’t break through the barrier of light.
Naturally, that only made it even angrier.
Once she was outside, Violet’s breathing became rapid.
She was completely exhausted.
"I can’t stop now. System, spin the Gacha with 1,000 SP for Violet," Enzo muttered.
DING!
(You have spun the Gacha using 1,000 System Points for your character, Violet Muller!)
[SP: 100]
Phew...
Enzo let out a long breath after giving the command and waited for the Gacha to finish.
His expression was filled with anticipation, hoping luck would favor him once again.
DING!
(The Gacha spin has ended. Your character has obtained one Respawn!)
(Respawn: A character possessing this effect will revive beside you upon death with the same strength, External Powers, and all previously equipped weapons.)
Enzo was speechless.
This reward was incredible—far better than he had expected.
After all, he had occasionally worried that Violet might die and disappear forever.
With Respawn, he no longer had to worry about losing her.
Unfortunately, it did nothing to increase her strength against the python.
And of course, he had no intention of using that Respawn now.
BANG! BANG!
The enraged Three-Headed Python repeatedly slammed itself against the barrier of light, trying to force its way toward Violet.
It almost looked as though it was challenging her to come back and fight.
At this point, using another person as bait probably wouldn’t work anymore.
"Wait... what’s that?"
Watching through the screen, Enzo suddenly frowned in surprise.
Behind the python, an enormous horde of Goblins suddenly came charging forward.
There were so many that it left him stunned.
There had to be over a thousand Goblins.
Some of them were even around five meters tall.
Among them were naturally several Fire Goblins.
They were all heading straight toward the python.
Enzo couldn’t tell whether they were merely passing through or if they were actually coming to attack it.
It didn’t take long before they reached the barrier of light.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Some of them hurled their clubs at the python.
Others threw massive boulders.
Then they charged straight into the barrier.
The Fire Goblins at the front opened their mouths and spewed blazing flames toward the python.
Naturally, the python stopped trying to escape the barrier.
ROAR!
Its two remaining heads roared furiously at the Goblins.
It slammed its tail against the ground, unleashing a violent quake that instantly knocked down nearly half of them.
Then one of its open mouths inhaled the incoming flames.
The torrent of fire was completely swallowed.
Even so, not a single Goblin showed any fear.
Those capable only of close combat charged recklessly at the python.
Even the Goblins that had been knocked down by the quake quickly got back to their feet and rushed forward once more.
The battle looked like an army of ants trying to bring down an elephant. The Goblins charged at the python relentlessly, only to be sent flying back again and again.
"That’s strange... How are they getting inside?" Enzo quickly noticed something unusual.
A Seal Dome was supposed to restrict the movement of monsters. Monsters trapped inside couldn’t get out, and monsters outside weren’t supposed to be able to get in.
"Now’s your chance!"
At that very moment, a woman’s voice echoed beside Violet.
Enzo was startled, and Violet instinctively reacted as well upon hearing the woman’s voice.
