Chapter 36: Fight Outside

DING!

(A Level 10 Monster detected!)

Enzo received the notification and smiled.

Once he had confirmed that it was indeed a monster, the System would naturally reveal its level.

Still, the creature’s mouth was far too large for a mere Level 10 monster. He wondered whether it was a crocodile or an anaconda.

Carnivorous monsters that excelled at ambushes were the ones most likely to lurk around the outskirts of a Sanctuary, waiting for humans to pass by.

They patiently waited for prey they could devour. If the human happened to be too strong, they would simply remain hidden.

’My first target,’ Enzo thought with a faint smile.

Violet continued forward.

She put on a layered cloak over her current outfit without removing any of her existing clothes.

Choosing a path through the trees, she advanced quietly.

Even though she wasn’t using Invisible, her Talent still suppressed her presence to the absolute minimum.

Her footsteps made it seem as though she were gliding through the air.

There was no sound at all, and even the dry leaves beneath her feet remained unbroken.

Within moments, she arrived behind the ruined hill.

She raised one hand.

Invisible Mana Threads shot outward.

The threads moved swiftly, wrapping around the monster’s head before Violet yanked them with all her strength.

RUMBLE!

The hill shook violently as a massive creature was dragged out by force.

It turned out to be a snake nearly ten meters long.

Its body wasn’t particularly enormous—Violet could probably lift it herself—but its jaws were incredibly flexible, allowing its mouth to open to an absurd size.

The shock on the snake’s face was obvious.

Perhaps not even its ancestral instincts had ever prepared it for a situation like this.

At that moment, Violet leaped forward.

Shua!

Her black dagger flashed across the snake’s neck.

Despite being much smaller than the creature itself, the blade sliced through its entire neck effortlessly.

The result was obvious.

Death.

DING!

(Your character has killed a Level 10 Monster. You and your character gain 500 EXP!)

(You gain 50 SP!)

[Level: 10]

[EXP: 90,500 / 100,000]

[SP: 50]

The meager reward didn’t surprise Enzo at all.

After all, the snake was only Level 10.

Aside from swallowing prey, it didn’t seem to possess any noteworthy abilities.

Violet jumped onto the remains of the ruined hill and began searching for anything unusual.

Sure enough, there was a large hole at the top.

The interior was pitch black.

Its position prevented sunlight from reaching inside.

Curious, Violet jumped down.

Enzo wasn’t worried about sending her inside since he hadn’t sensed any danger.

Using the flashlight from her iPhone, the darkness was immediately illuminated.

Enzo frowned.

What he saw were dozens of skulls.

Human skulls.

Strangely, there were no other bones from the skeletons.

The truth was that the death rate among Awakeners was extremely high.

It simply wasn’t publicized.

Many families were even deceived into believing their relatives were still living safely inside Sanctuaries.

By the time they learned the truth, there was no one they could report to and no one to hold accountable.

Who could be blamed when someone willingly entered a world filled with monsters and died?

"An egg," Violet said, echoing Enzo’s words.

Besides the dozens of skulls, there was a single egg roughly the size of a human skull.

It was white with black spots covering its surface.

DING!

(Egg of a Voracious Snake. One egg can hatch one thousand Voracious Snakes!)

A notification appeared.

Enzo rolled his eyes.

The snake from earlier must have been a Voracious Snake.

But how could a single egg produce a thousand offspring?

Violet stored the egg inside her Storage Artifact.

It might be valuable, so there was no harm in keeping it.

Afterward, she jumped out of the hole and continued her journey, maintaining her cold expression.

Meanwhile, Enzo studied the photo of the map he had taken earlier.

Unfortunately, his phone screen was too small.

Even with his enhanced eyesight, examining every detail of the map was somewhat difficult.

’It would be much better if I could print it at full size,’ he thought.

But where could he even print it?

For now, he had no choice but to make do.

’That tower... it has to be that one!’

Enzo focused on the image of a small tower marked on the map.

Sure enough, there was currently a tower about a hundred meters ahead of Violet.

Naturally, it was badly damaged.

The structure consisted of rusted metal beams and stood nearly a hundred meters tall.

It resembled either a communication tower or an electrical tower, though it might have been something entirely different.

He directed Violet toward it.

This time, however, she moved much more slowly and chose a route hidden by dense vegetation.

Occasionally, powerful roars echoed from the distance.

Monsters below Level 10 probably couldn’t produce such intimidating sounds.

Enzo continuously observed the surroundings through Violet’s eyes.

Goblins remained the most common monsters he saw.

They didn’t interest him in the slightest.

However, as Violet approached the tower, Enzo spotted a giant eagle perched atop an ancient tree.

It casually flapped its wings without actually taking flight.

The eagle alone stood around two and a half meters tall.

(Level 15 Monster!)

The notification made Enzo grin.

As far as he knew, bird-type monsters rewarded more SP when killed.

Not only were they more difficult to hunt, but they were also among the most troublesome opponents to fight.

’I can’t let that thing get away.’

Eagles were naturally fast.

If it sensed danger, it could easily soar high into the sky.

At that point, attacking it would become nearly impossible.

’Same strategy as before.’

Enzo decided to use the same trick.

First, bind the eagle with invisible Mana Threads.

Of course, this time he would probably have to use Instant Death as well.

At the very least, it should weaken the eagle significantly.

The invisible Mana Threads shot forward at incredible speed, impossible to see or detect as they raced toward the eagle.

Enzo’s expression turned serious, and Violet mirrored every movement perfectly.

"Mm..."

"Die!"

A thunderous shout echoed from another direction, followed by a gigantic fireball hurtling straight toward the eagle.

’Damn it!’ Enzo cursed inwardly.

He was certain that killing the eagle would finally push him to Level 11.

Unfortunately, an unexpected interruption appeared at the worst possible moment.
