Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Add Friend? Unnecessary.
"I’ll take her to the school infirmary."
The pure white snow leopard had only appeared for a few seconds, but the pressure from the Soul Beast lingered for a long time.
Everyone watched as Sheng Yue picked up Jian Yu and left. For a moment, their minds went into overdrive.
’How could this be happening?’
Though her goal had been achieved, Xu Jianjuan’s face showed no sign of joy.
Shock and rage flooded her mind. Even half an hour later, when class ended, she still hadn’t processed it.
’Sheng Yue actually picked someone up? How ridiculous.’
’After being reborn, he’s actually started acting like a human being.’
Xu Jianjuan was lost in her memories.
In her past life, Sheng Yue was seen by others as the man who would make exceptions for her, give her special treatment, and even rush to save her when she was in danger.
In reality, he had never laid a single hand on her.
In Sheng Yue’s eyes, if other people were prickly, then she was undoubtedly something filthy. He’d have to shower and change his clothes if he so much as touched her.
"Hey, your roommate. What’s her deal? Is she close with Chief Sheng?"
Xu Jianjuan’s hair was yanked, forcing her head back.
She let out a subconscious "Tch!"
Xu Shaoqing’s eyes narrowed, and the hand pulling her hair tightened its grip. "Wipe that disgusting look off your face. Chief Sheng is not someone you should be coveting."
"Hiss!" Xu Jianjuan snapped back to her senses, her eyes glancing sideways and back.
She saw a bewitching face: red lips, black hair, thick bangs, and inky-black, chest-length hair that fell straight down.
’Hmph, just a defeated foe.’
Xu Jianjuan had almost forgotten what Xu Shaoqing looked like.
In her previous life, after she was photographed entering and leaving Sheng Yue’s villa, Xu Shaoqing, who had a secret crush on him, began to target and frame her repeatedly.
In the end, she angered both Sheng Yue and Ling Yanzhi. First, that madman Ling Yanzhi beat her half to death, and then Sheng Yue personally had her expelled from the academy.
A fierce look flashed in Xu Jianjuan’s eyes, and she angrily wanted to claw at Xu Shaoqing’s arm.
But then a thought struck her, and the strength of her resistance faded, replaced by the look of a put-upon victim.
’I will never like Sheng Yue again in this life.’
Xu Jianjuan lowered her lashes, hiding the contempt in her eyes.
"She’s a special admission student too, what kind of background could she have? Chief Sheng’s Soul Beast was the one who rushed over first. We’re all new students; Chief Sheng probably only helped her out of respect for his own Soul Beast."
She added in a low voice, "She fainted right after drinking that medicine. Didn’t Professor Lin say its ingredients were special and there might only be one bottle?"
As she spoke, she began to believe her own words. "Chief Sheng probably wanted to see the medicine’s effects for himself. Professor Lin is the person Chief Sheng respects the most, so it’s normal that he wouldn’t want anything to happen to someone in his class."
Xu Shaoqing released her hair, her eyes narrowing. "I suppose so. She’s so ugly, looks like she crawled out of the slums. Sheng Yue could fall for anyone, but it would never be her."
’Speaking of which, Professor Lin really is a breath of fresh air among the nobles.’
’He was willing to give such a precious medicine to a special admission student for a clever, opportunistic answer.’
Xu Shaoqing sat on a desk, crossing her legs and looking down at her with a commanding tone. "Since you’re her roommate, go back and give her a warning. Tell her to stay away from Sheng Yue."
Xu Jianjuan nodded. "I will."
"Obedient enough." Xu Shaoqing clapped her hands together.
Some people who hadn’t left the classroom yet looked over.
"I still have a use for this person. I don’t want her to be missing when the next class starts."
Xu Shaoqing placed a hand on Xu Jianjuan’s shoulder, posturing as if she were protecting her.
Huang Yuan wasn’t afraid of her. He let out a cold snort, turned, and walked away, followed by several other special admission students.
「The school infirmary.」
When Jian Yu woke up, the first thing she saw was a pair of long, straight legs.
Her gaze traveled upward.
Sheng Yue was sitting by the bed with his eyes closed, resting. A Little Snow Leopard was perched on his shoulder.
The little guy’s body was like a fluffy furball—the kind of plump ball that looked like it was stuffed with cotton.
Noticing her gaze, the plump ball cutely flexed its front paws, spreading its toe beans at her.
The purple brooch was too eye-catching. Jian Yu only glanced at it for a moment before quickly lowering her gaze and closing her eyes again.
She had a natural habit of avoiding people she couldn’t afford to offend.
’Master, why did she faint again? Did Ajiu scare her?’
Sheng Yue opened his eyes.
His voice was indifferent. ’To curry favor, you’re not hesitating to act cute and spoiled in your cub form. With that weak-ass look, who could you possibly scare?’
He couldn’t understand why his Soul Beast was suddenly acting like it was in heat.
’Yin Jiu, you’d better give me an explanation.’
Yin Jiu: ’Being near her feels good for Ajiu. Master, don’t you feel good?’
With the strange, pleasant scent from Jian Yu lingering in the air, Sheng Yue did indeed feel comfortable all over.
Outsiders only ever envied Awakeners, ignoring the pain they had to endure.
An hour of pain every seven days in exchange for a lifetime free of illness, status, and power—they thought it was well worth it.
But the more powerful the Soul Beast, the greater the pain its Awakener experienced.
For a Level 3S Awakener like him, passing out from the pain and waking up from it was a common occurrence.
Just as he walked into the classroom, an irregular wave of pain had struck. The thought of asking for a leave of absence had just formed when his Soul Beast caught a scent.
Immediately after, the pain that had been spreading from his fingertips up to his arm vanished in an instant.
The moment he touched Jian Yu’s body, Yin Jiu was so comfortable he wanted to roll around. And Sheng Yue, who shared his Soul Beast’s senses, naturally felt it too...
Sheng Yue shot a cold glance at Jian Yu, who was lying on the Healing bed.
He couldn’t help but lean in, lowering his head slightly.
It was a top-shelf hit.
The fragrance was unusual, its scent intoxicating, and it unconsciously gave rise to a favorable impression in him.
’I wonder which professor developed this. I need to find them as soon as possible and recruit them into the Sheng Family.’
Sheng Yue’s breathing grew ragged.
Jian Yu’s heart began to race.
She could feel his warm breath ghosting slowly across her face.
It was just... the man’s voice was so cold that the faint, budding, ambiguous atmosphere instantly dissipated.
"You’re awake."
Sheng Yue pulled back, standing up straight with a cold expression.
’That was too quick! Ajiu barely got a taste. ’What, are you in recovery?’’
Sheng Yue lifted his gaze. ’Are you a pervert?’
Yin Jiu: ’Why would you say that about yourself?’
"..."
Jian Yu opened her eyes and looked innocently up at the 1.9-meter-tall man before her.
The man’s hair was as black as if it were dipped in ink, making his blue eyes look sharp and clear. He had a strong brow bone, but maybe a few too many buttons.
His lips were a pale shade, and when pressed together, he looked cold and distant.
Jian Yu covered her face with one hand. "Thank you for bringing me to the school infirmary, Chief Sheng."
Her glasses had been knocked askew, and she quickly straightened them with both hands.
Sheng Yue waited patiently for her to finish her little fidgety movements, showing no hint of impatience.
"What perfume are you wearing?"
’What is Sheng Yue talking about? Perfume?’
Jian Yu was confused. "I’m not wearing any perfume."
She lowered her head and sniffed herself. The floral scent of her body wash, and maybe a faint trace of the female lead’s scent.
’Are people with Soul Beasts all this sensitive to smells?’
’The female lead’s perfume is very strong; you can smell it from a mile away. Someone with a good nose could probably track her down just by following the scent.’
"It might be my roommate’s. She came back to the dorm last night, and I must have accidentally picked up the scent."
After a moment’s thought, Jian Yu added, "It could also be the body wash I usually use."
Sheng Yue frowned. "Your roommate is?"
Yin Jiu loudly reminded him: ’I told you not to zone out! Isn’t her roommate the one who just raised her hand for our dear Yu?!’
Jian Yu’s eyes widened. ’The second male lead doesn’t remember the female lead? Is that even possible?’
She had a crisis of faith, her eyes darting around furtively. "My roommate is Xu Jianjuan. During Professor Lin’s class, she... was sitting right next to you."
"?" Sheng Yue didn’t pay any mind to how Yin Jiu addressed Jian Yu.
’He was certain the scent on Xu Jianjuan was not the same one his Soul Beast had smelled.’
"The shop’s name," Sheng Yue asked concisely.
Jian Yu understood instantly. She opened her Star Brain and showed him the link. "The shop is called Yuanyuan’s Home Body Wash. ’Yuan’ as in ’reunion.’ The one I bought is their bestseller."
Yin Jiu: ’The scent is coming from her, so why are you asking about body wash and perfume?’
’Not necessarily.’ Sheng Yue still suspected there was a high-level, unaffiliated professor behind this.
"Thank you for your cooperation." A blue light flashed on his wrist, and he transferred one million Star Coins to Jian Yu.
’He’d lived this long and had never seen someone so malnourished.’
Yin Jiu was anxious: ’You’re just going to leave? You can’t even add her as a friend first?!’
’There’s no need.’ Sheng Yue quietly closed the door to the school infirmary.
