Chapter 31: Chapter 31: A Wuss Who Loves to Play

Sheng Yue glanced over coolly. "Qin Xianzhao has one too."

Earlier that afternoon, when Xi Yu had been staring at her, Sheng Yue had assumed there was something special and taken a closer look himself.

The necklace’s color scheme was nice, and that was it.

Xi Yu froze. A theory formed in his mind.

His dazed gaze fell on Jian Yu’s pure yet alluring little face.

Jian Yu seemed unfazed. "I’m definitely not from the Qin Family. We’ve already checked."

Ling Yanzhi nodded.

"Who’s Qin Xianzhao?" Pei Yin asked casually. No one answered.

He picked up the last few comparison reports, flipped through them quickly, and his expression turned grave. "Let’s give her a full-body scan."

"Is there a problem?" Xi Yu stood, walked over, and took the reports.

There was a threshold variance in her blood cell count.

There were also subtle differences in the small-molecule substances in her blood plasma.

She had a similar coagulation mechanism, but some clotting factors, like the structure and activation pathways of Factor XIII, also showed differences.

The differences were all minor, almost negligible, and most standard instruments couldn’t even detect them.

Pei Yin gave his conclusion. "I’ve compared her to every organism in the database. The closest match is an A-level Beast, but it’s only a close match."

A full-body scan required her to lie down inside the machine.

The sealed chamber looked a lot like an emergency room.

’I have some trauma related to this, and I’m also afraid they’ll find something even more disadvantageous for me.’

Jian Yu braced her foot against the door. "Can I not go in?"

She looked up helplessly, forced tears welling in her eyes.

Her fingers were gripping him so tightly that Ling Yanzhi couldn’t let go and could only continue to hold her. "Don’t overthink it. We’re really just worried about your health, baby."

Xi Yu leaned over. "Be a good girl, baby. Listen."

A small, black tentacle wrapped around her ankle. It clung limply to her skin, its thorny tip retracted as it trembled and crept up the top of her foot, slowly toying with her toes.

Wriggling, coiling, contracting, pulsing.

After a strange, stuttering sensation, a sticky, wet mark was left on her skin.

"Don’t come any closer! Get away!" Jian Yu kicked her legs in a panic, her eyes misty with tears.

She tried to shake her foot, but she couldn’t get it off. She turned her head and used her waist to scramble higher up his body.

She wrapped her arms tightly around Ling Yanzhi’s neck, her eyelashes trembling in fear. "Help me."

"Baby, shouldn’t you be begging me?" Xi Yu lowered his gaze, his expression crazed as the tentacle tightened its grip on her ankle.

Ling Yanzhi wrapped an arm around Jian Yu’s waist and raised an eyebrow. "Don’t scare her."

Sheng Yue stood nearby, his expression cold and grim.

"We’ve already found out this much, so what else are you afraid of us knowing? If anything happens, these two will cover for you." Pei Yin picked up a handheld scanner and swept it over Jian Yu from head to toe.

"Cry, cry, cry, all you know is how to cry. If you have time to cry, you might as well slap him a couple of times."

Ting Ying flew out from behind Pei Yin, casting a long shadow as it passed.

Its iron-hook talons precisely seized the writhing black tentacles, then twisted, tore, and tossed them aside.

"Cause any more trouble and you can all get out. I can’t stand your love triangles."

He turned, the hem of his white lab coat stirring up a breeze. The chains on his person jingled and jangled.

With the pulling on her leg gone, Jian Yu stumbled and fell against Ling Yanzhi.

Her eyes were dazed.

Her lips trembled, and tears fell, her eyes brimming over.

’So disgusting. My scalp is tingling, a chill is running down my spine, and I have goosebumps all over.’

Xi Yu narrowed his eyes. "Baby, how could you be afraid of me?"

"Which of you has her past medical records?" Pei Yin suddenly stopped and turned to ask.

He stared at Xi Yu. "You should have them, right? Why don’t you come and help me cross-reference?"

Xi Yu’s fists clenched. "Fine."

But despite his words, he didn’t move, his gaze stuck clingingly to the back of Jian Yu’s head.

Pei Yin said, "Can someone control him? I feel harassed even from three meters away."

Ling Yanzhi scoffed lightly. "I’ll talk to him later."

It was all too terrifying. Jian Yu was too traumatized to deal with them right now.

She burrowed into Ling Yanzhi’s arms like a quail, burying her face in his neck.

She felt a shadow fall over her and a tall figure loom close, his presence carrying a faint, cool fragrance.

Jian Yu carefully turned her head, and a finger gently touched the corner of her mouth.

"Don’t be angry, baby. I hurt you, didn’t I? I’m sorry, baby. I’ll be gentler next time."

Xi Yu grabbed her hand and made her slap his face twice with it.

Seemingly enjoying the hits, he said, "Baby’s hands smell so good."

He pressed his cheek against her palm and rubbed it, a look of desire coloring his eyes. "I’ll apologize to you properly later, baby. As punishment, how about I help you take a bath?"

"..."

’Not a chance.’

’But then again... for the sake of three hundred million, I guess I can forgive him.’

Jian Yu’s cheeks flushed, and her heart pounded erratically. She couldn’t tell if it was from excitement or lingering fear.

Xi Yu followed Pei Yin toward the lab bench.

Seeing Sheng Yue standing still, he called out warily, "Chairman Sheng, coming to help?"

Sheng Yue looked at Jian Yu’s red, tear-rimmed eyes, his brow furrowing slightly.

Only when called did he tear his gaze away and walk over. "What do you need me to do?"

’Do what?’

"Sit here."

Xi Yu gave a completely unrelated command, forcing him to stay within his line of sight.

’The person baby likes = love rival.’

’Danger level > Ling Yanzhi.’

Sheng Yue: "..."

"He’s sick in the head." Pei Yin realized he seemed to have found his first-ever catchphrase.

The three of them entered the lab, and their voices gradually faded.

Ling Yanzhi carried her back to the corner and sat down.

He looked at the hand clutching his clothes, carefully pried it open, and held it in his own.

Jian Yu’s ears burned. She turned her head and saw a flash of red in his jet-black pupils.

"I’m sorry."

She stared at the wrinkled fabric of his clothes, her fingers curling.

"I’m not angry."

Looking at the reddish corners of her eyes, Ling Yanzhi reached up and wiped away the tear tracks.

"Those blind dates of yours... are you still in contact with any of them?"

Feeling a sudden sense of crisis, Jian Yu shook her head. "No."

She grabbed Ling Yanzhi’s hand. "I fainted during dinner, and he tried to carry me to the hospital, but he couldn’t lift me. When I woke up, I told him we weren’t a good match, and he claimed I was calling him short and weak."

Different situations, similar outcomes.

"I didn’t insult them."

Jian Yu explained for a moment, then felt it wasn’t sincere enough.

"I... I think... I quite like you. Next time, can you not let Xi Yu bully me like that? He..."

’I really don’t want there to be a next time.’

"Such a good baby, such a well-behaved baby." Ling Yanzhi tightened his arms around her waist, unable to resist interrupting her.

He could tell her words were watered down.

’Likes him? Hah. It’s more like she’s afraid of him.’

’This is good enough. If she keeps talking, the holes in her story will show.’

The Red Snake was beautiful, but she was terrified of it just because it was soft-boned.

With Xi Yu’s Yang Zhang and its eight soft tentacles, her terror would only be magnified.

Ling Yanzhi took one of her fingers and lowered his head to suck on it a couple of times. "But baby is just too lovable. I want to bully you too."

His hand moved to her waist. The feel of it was pleasant. He gave it a squeeze, the look in his eyes a turbulent storm.

Smiling, he cradled her face. "Don’t you dare say what you just said to Xi Yu, understand?"

Jian Yu was forced to meet his gaze directly.

Crimson, gorgeous, deep, and crazed.

Her body couldn’t help but tremble.

"Understood." She immediately nodded obediently.

Ling Yanzhi leaned down.

Jian Yu hesitated for a moment, then deliberately dodged.

"Didn’t baby say you like me?"

She argued in a small voice, "I’m just... not ready."

Her chin was grabbed, and she was kissed deeply.

’So thrilling. A coward who still loves to play with fire. That’s me, all right.’
