Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Wizard Contract and Emotional Constraint

The information Gray revealed made Wang Ya frown slightly as he pondered.

His plan was to master the basic Extraordinary Knowledge before finding Wizard Yi Si to get his ticket into the Dark Wizard Academy. He just had to make sure these new developments didn’t interfere.

Gray stuck a finger into his nostril, picked it, and wiped the booger on the underside of the table. "The reason for the disappearances is unclear," he said. "Many have been gone for two or three days already. It’d be a lot easier to handle if there were any witnesses."

He said earnestly, "I believe that no matter how strict Wizard Yi Si is, he’ll still investigate and deal with it."

Wang Ya didn’t say anything to dash Gray’s hopes. He recalled the middle-aged man in the purple Wizard Robe: cold and unapproachable. Anyone’s first impression would be that he was difficult, rigid, and apathetic.

Even the Tuta Wizard’s somewhat frightening face seemed more approachable in comparison.

’That’s only if these things are happening on Ancient Forest Mountain. If no rules have been broken, Wizard Yi Si will just ignore it.’ Wang Ya couldn’t understand it. These Wizard Freshmen were the new blood of the Dark Land, yet now that they might be in trouble, they were being completely ignored. ’If he just looked into it, it shouldn’t be a secret to someone like Wizard Yi Si.’

"Next time, I’ll introduce you to a couple of my friends," Gray said as he was leaving.

Wang Ya gave a casual reply, his mind already churning. ’Will this turn of events affect me? In two days, the Eye of Truth will finish its analysis of the Vast Sea Meditation Method. After that, I’ll use it to help master the basic Extraordinary Knowledge and speed things up.’

’No matter what, I’d better prepare for the worst.’ He had a strange premonition that the disappearance cases were far from over.

...

"Lady Anna, are we really going to establish the Wizard Mutual Aid Association? Right now, all the Wizard Freshmen on Ancient Forest Mountain are panicking over the mysterious disappearances."

A hint of hesitation crossed Rafael’s face as he and several other Wizard Freshmen followed the beautiful figure ahead of them down a cobblestone path.

Anna frowned. She’d heard about the disappearances and that some of those who vanished were freshmen with top-tier Wizard Qualifications. She had started to worry about herself, but then Mosi had approached her. He’d suggested they face the crisis together, arguing that the mastermind behind it all wouldn’t be able to touch them if they were in a large group.

After their first meeting at the welcome party, they had gotten to know each other, and a flirtatious ambiguity had naturally developed between them. She had also come to understand just how formidable the Bailin Wizard Clan was; its foundations were incredibly deep, and it even had several Level 3 Wizard Apprentices.

In Ancient Forest Wizard City, the Three Great Wizard Clans formed the top of the pyramid, controlling the flow of immense Extraordinary Resources.

Anna wanted to establish the Wizard Mutual Aid Association not only to cooperate with Mosi but also for her own sake. For one, it was a way to handle the current situation—there was safety in numbers. For another, their relationship was unequal. With no backing of her own, it was questionable whether she could ever take root in Mosi’s heart the way Arthur had.

She was smart enough to see that the Wizard Mutual Aid Association would be very useful to Mosi. If she became its Chairman, one of its leaders, she would have enough leverage to stand on equal footing with him. Some of the Bailin Clan’s resources might even be funneled her way.

This was one of her primary goals. She needed everything she could get, from Witchcraft experience to Extraordinary Knowledge.

No matter how high one’s Wizard Qualification was, one still needed the support of resources.

This was a source of great trouble for her; the difficulty of the Fire Sun Star Witchcraft was beyond her current comprehension.

Even the easiest Middle-tier Witchcraft was still a Middle-tier Witchcraft.

Her weak foundation in basic Extraordinary Knowledge made it impossible for her to proceed with mastering this Witchcraft.

Of course, Anna wasn’t about to read the books on the shelves in her Wizard dwelling. In fact, since arriving at Ancient Forest Mountain, she had spent very few days in her residence, having thrown herself body and soul into the emotional game of winning over Mosi.

In her mind, as long as she had the support of a Wizard Clan’s resources, she would surely be able to master and cast the Fire Sun Star Witchcraft and pass the assessment.

"Rafael, that’s precisely why we need the Wizard Mutual Aid Association," Anna’s gentle voice echoed. "Of course, the association couldn’t exist without all of you. Some of the Wizard Freshmen from the Wizard Clans will be joining, and their clans might even pour resources into our association."

The few Wizard Freshmen immediately grew excited, praising Anna for her outstanding ability and profound wisdom.

Rafael’s face flushed. "I will not betray your trust, Lady Anna!!"

Many Wizard Freshmen had gathered in the Ancient Forest Pavilion, all having come by invitation to join the Wizard Mutual Aid Association. Mosi and several other freshmen from Wizard Clans watched the long, red-haired girl at the center of the crowd effortlessly winning people over. The establishment of the Wizard Mutual Aid Association was now more or less a certainty.

A freshman from another clan, who had a full head of blue hair, chuckled and said, "Mosi, you’ve got some great luck with the ladies. This woman seems quite capable, too."

A smirk played on Mosi’s lips as he chuckled. "Perhaps! But isn’t it great to have her doing the work for us? She’s even better at it than we would be."

He watched Anna’s back, a hint of mockery in his eyes. ’As a member of the Bailin Clan’s direct lineage, I’ve seen and experienced things this naive little woman could never imagine. This so-called game of love would have ended long ago if I hadn’t decided to play along.’

’Between Wizards, there are no feelings, only benefits.’

’It’s just that this woman is so useful and so easy to please. I’ve gotten so much information out of her with almost no effort.’

Mosi still couldn’t help but laugh when he thought about their "romance" maintained by "feelings." ’So stupid. Unbelievably stupid... I’ve secured a free laborer without spending a single resource, and even that swan-like neck is about to submit. All it will take is one more push.’

’In Ancient Forest Wizard City, a high-class courtesan with the background of a Wizard’s descendant costs at least one Magic Stone.’

Mosi’s gaze grew even more derisive. ’These island natives are so stupid and backward. She’s probably never even heard of a Wizard Contract.’

’When Wizards make deals, all words and promises are useless without the guarantee of a Wizard Contract.’

"Mosi, aren’t we taking this a bit too far?" The blue-haired young man hesitated before speaking. "A Wizard Mutual Aid Association... there was no precedent for this with the last batch of apprentices."

Mosi scoffed. "Kadi Purple Gold Flower, you’re really becoming a coward. Are you afraid of Wizard Yi Si? We haven’t broken any rules, have we?"

Mosi was all smiles. "Besides, we have the backing of the Three Great Wizard Clans, especially the Antuun Clan, which holds power even in the Dark Land. Wizard Yi Si was just dropped in here. As long as we don’t break the rules, he can’t suppress the local powers."

"This has always been the precedent!"
