Chapter 39: Chapter 38: We’re Even
But her smile returned in an instant, and she said nonchalantly, "Fancy seeing you here, handsome."
Leo Grant started to walk over, but Yvonne Lowell stopped him. "Be good now, don’t come over here. Turn around. The show’s about to get ugly."
Nolan Crawford and Silas Lynch’s jaws dropped so wide they could have swallowed eggs. ’Is this really the same Yvonne Lowell they know? It has to be, right? But she’s a world away from the woman they met in Kingsland!’
Only Warren Lynch glanced between the two, nodding to himself. ’So this must be the Miss Yvonne Lowell they’re always talking about.’
’She’s very beautiful, and definitely not some ordinary sheltered belle. Her presence is a match for the Master’s. And the crucial part is, the Master doesn’t seem to mind her at all. They’re a perfect match!’
Leo Grant pursed his lips. Though reluctant, he turned around as she’d asked. Then he kicked Nolan Crawford. "Didn’t you hear her? Turn around."
"Tch!" Nolan Crawford spun around, thoroughly aggrieved.
’Unbelievable. They’re not even dating yet, and he’s already whipped?! So much for friends before flings, huh? Fine, just fine! She was telling *you* what to do. If you’re not happy about it, tell *her*! What’s the deal with taking it out on me?! Now he’s even resorting to violence!’
Leo Grant: ’My bad. It’s not like I don’t rough you up on a regular basis.’
Silas Lynch and Warren Lynch obediently turned around as well, not wanting to be next in line for a kick.
Seeing how well he listened, the smile on Yvonne Lowell’s face grew a little more genuine.
She walked over and crouched beside Henry Lynch. "Henry Lynch, I gave you a chance, you know. It’s a shame you failed."
"P-Please... spare me."
The dagger slid slowly down his face before she tapped it against the left side of his abdomen.
"I don’t have a single scar on my body... except right here. Do you know why I kept it? Because this is where you, Henry Lynch, stabbed me clean through with your own two hands. I kept it as a reminder to be more discerning, to always watch my back. Otherwise, who knows when someone I trust might stab me in it again."
Hearing her words, a flash of pain crossed Leo Grant’s eyes.
Yvonne Lowell continued, as if talking to herself, "Oh, by the way, do you remember Leogryph? That little rascal is growing up so fast. He’s not that cute, 40-pound thing he used to be. He’s almost 400 pounds now. And he’s become such a picky eater, only wants raw meat. It’s driving me crazy."
Hearing this, Henry Lynch couldn’t stop a violent shudder from running through his body.
The men standing with their backs turned weren’t faring much better. ’Four hundred pounds... That’s definitely not a person, is it?’
’And Leogryph... could it be *the* Leogryph?!!’
"N-No... please don’t."
"Let’s do this. I’ll return the stab you gave me with your own hands, and we’ll call it even. Then, I’ll have someone fly you home. If you manage to survive the trip, I’ll let you see Leogryph—you two can have a proper reunion. But if you can’t hold on and die on the plane... well, then I guess I’ll have to be a little naughty and just... drop you from the sky."
Without another word, she drove the dagger into Henry Lynch’s left abdomen, piercing straight through him, then pulled it out with a single, clean motion.
As blood sprayed from the wound, she leaned to the side, but a few drops still splattered onto her clothes and hand.
Yvonne Lowell watched his agonized screams with a blank expression for a moment before rising to her feet. She handed the dagger to Regan Knight. "Make sure you disinfect it. This blade is expensive."
Everyone broke out in a cold sweat. ’Are you serious? Who worries about their dagger at a time like this? Lady, you just stabbed a man! How can you sound so calm and collected?!’
Only when she had finished speaking did Leo Grant turn back around. He walked toward her, his peripheral vision catching the blood pouring from Henry Lynch’s abdomen.
Seeing that the two of them clearly knew each other, Leon didn’t try to stop him.
Yvonne Lowell didn’t move, just watched him approach with a smile.
’Just as I thought,’ she mused. ’I knew this guy was more than he seemed. Running a club this big in Country A... I’m so curious about what other identities he’s hiding.’
Leo Grant pulled a handkerchief from his pocket with practiced ease and began wiping the blood from her hand. Yvonne Lowell let him.
"Funny, isn’t it? Both times I’ve had to discipline someone, it’s been on your turf. And both times, you’ve been the one to clean my hands."
Leo Grant squeezed her palm, a hint of exasperation in his voice. "Next time, don’t get your own hands dirty. These people are filth."
The sight made everyone’s lips twitch. ’Do you two have to be so lovey-dovey at a time like this? There’s a room full of people and two human punching bags on the floor, and you’re over here flirting?!’
’Is there no justice in this world? No decency?!’
When he saw the blood wouldn’t wipe away completely, Leo Grant’s brow furrowed. "Silas Lynch."
"Master." Silas Lynch took a tentative half-step forward, not daring to get too close.
"Go get some antiseptic wipes."
"Huh? Right away." Silas Lynch, momentarily stunned, quickly agreed.
’But Boss, where am I supposed to find wipes for you right now? I can’t just say no, though. So frustrating!’
To vent his frustration, Silas Lynch viciously kicked Kyle Quinn, who was lying on the floor. "Antiseptic wipes. Where are they?"
"In... in the office."
Silas Lynch scrambled to the office, grabbed the wipes, and handed them over.
Only after the last trace of blood was wiped from her hand did Leo Grant’s brow finally smooth out.
He then noticed the speck of blood on her clothes. "Your jacket is stained."
"Nothing to be done about it. I didn’t bring another jacket." Yvonne Lowell’s hand, still resting on his, fidgeted playfully.
In truth, she had a blouse on underneath; in the warm climate of Country A, taking off her outer layer was no issue.
"Wear mine," Leo Grant said, shrugging off his own suit jacket.
Yvonne Lowell found this slightly amusing, but she took off her trench coat anyway and handed it to Regan Knight.
Leo Grant smoothly draped his jacket over her shoulders. "All finished here? Hungry? Let’s go get some food."
"Alright, one second." The scent of sandalwood on his jacket slowly calmed her nerves, easing her out of the state she’d been in.
Yvonne Lowell looked at Regan Knight. "Take him back and do exactly as I said. And remember to help them put this place back to how it was."
"Understood, Lowell."
Tugging on the sleeve of his jacket now on her shoulders, Leo Grant said, "Don’t worry about it. Let my men handle it."
Her people ignored him, looking instead to Yvonne Lowell. They might recognize him, but they were crystal clear on who their boss was.
"Then do as he says," Yvonne Lowell said with a shrug.
Regan Knight gestured for a few mercenaries to drag the men away, then said, her voice full of reluctance, "Lowell, I’ll be heading straight back. Remember to come and visit us when you have time."
"I will. I’ll find the time to come back," Yvonne Lowell said, patting her on the head.
All of Yvonne Lowell’s people left, with only Leon still standing in the same spot.
"Why didn’t you leave with them?" Yvonne Lowell shot him a sidelong glance.
Leon stared at the ceiling, then the floor—anywhere but at her. "Ahem. I’m hungry, too. I’m also going to eat."
’Damn it! If I weren’t so curious about this guy, I’d have been long gone with my dear Regan! Who knows how long it’ll be until I can see her again.’
"Well?" Yvonne Lowell glanced sideways at Leo Grant.
Leo Grant stroked her head. "It’s up to you."
"Then let’s go," Yvonne Lowell said, shooting Leon an annoyed glare. ’So clueless! Can’t he see he’s interrupting our private time?’
Leo Grant shot Silas Lynch and Warren Lynch a meaningful look, signaling for them to stay behind and clean up the mess. Then he led Yvonne Lowell away, with Leon and Nolan Crawford trailing behind.
