Chapter 32: Chapter 31: Happy Family
"They’re coming to install the cameras next Thursday and do a livestream preview. The official broadcast starts on Friday."
’Next Thursday? And you’re only telling me now?! I bet you signed this contract last year, didn’t you?! Your whole strategy is to act first and ask for forgiveness later, isn’t it???’
’But then again...’ A glint flashed in Yvonne Lowell’s eyes. ’There are still so many days until then. If I were to just run off today, it would be perfectly normal for me not to make it back in time, right? Right? Totally, right? I could probably pull it off, couldn’t I?’
But in the next second, Harrison Lowell started his theatrics again. "My dearest sister would never run away, right? How could she bear to disappoint her dear older brother? She wouldn’t, right? She probably wouldn’t, right? If I have to work so hard filming on location, only to come home to this huge, empty villa all by myself, I’d be so miserable! A poor, lonely soul, with no one to love me. But that won’t happen, right? Right?"
’Damn it! He’s blocked my escape route again! We’re not even twins, so how can he be so perceptive?!’
"Of course, I’m not that kind of person," Yvonne Lowell said through gritted teeth.
"Alrighty then, I’m off to my promotional photoshoot. Keith Zane is already nagging me. Love you, Nola~" Harrison Lowell blew her a kiss and headed out the door.
’Heh, you’re so good to Keith Zane. So good you don’t even care if I live or die.’
’I’m not your sister, he is!’
Yvonne Lowell shook her head with a sigh of resignation and followed him out the door.
Stepping out of the villa, she saw Leo Grant leaning against his car.
Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow and walked over. "Gorgeous, been waiting long?"
"Just got here. I happened to run into Harrison." He had specifically waited for Harrison Lowell to leave before getting out of the car, afraid he wouldn’t be able to whisk her away.
He walked to the passenger side and opened the door for her.
After getting in the car, Yvonne Lowell asked, "So, where are you taking me to eat?"
"You’ll know when we get there. This time, I’m sure it’s not one of your properties," Leo Grant said, deliberately being mysterious.
"Alright then. I’ll be looking forward to it."
Leo Grant drove Yvonne Lowell along a winding route before finally arriving at the entrance of a quaint, traditional courtyard house.
Stepping inside, she saw it didn’t look like a restaurant at all. There wasn’t even a single waiter in sight.
The scenery was quite nice, though. A small pond had been dug beneath a rockery, and it was stocked with a few fish. Leo Grant, clearly familiar with the place, led Yvonne Lowell toward a side courtyard.
"Gorgeous, are you taking me to dinner, or are you kidnapping me to harvest my kidneys?" Yvonne Lowell teased.
Leo Grant chuckled. "What are you thinking? A friend of mine owns this place. The food’s pretty good. But he’s very laid-back—he has a daily limit on servings, and on top of that, it all depends on his mood. So it’s usually just a few of us who gather here."
"He certainly has a personality. How does he make money, then?"
"He doesn’t need the money. He’s just bored."
’Heh, I swear, you rich people will be the death of me!’
"Well, look who it is. How does our busy Mr. Grant have the time? Whoa, a wonder of the world! The famously woman-fearing Grant the Monk actually brought a little beauty with him?" a flippant male voice came from behind them.
Yvonne Lowell turned to look. The man was dressed in a T-shirt and cargo pants, with a neat buzz cut. He had a roguish air about him.
’How to describe it? At first glance, no one would ever think this guy could be friends with Leo Grant, let alone be one of his closest buddies.’
When Quentin Kane saw Yvonne Lowell’s face, he froze for a second. "Why do I get the feeling this little beauty looks familiar?"
"Quentin Kane, if you don’t know how to talk, then shut your mouth," Leo Grant’s expression darkened for a moment.
A glint flashed in Yvonne Lowell’s eyes. ’You’re right to find me familiar. If it wasn’t for me, you’d probably be dead and buried on a battlefield somewhere. You certainly wouldn’t have been medically discharged to come back here and open a private kitchen.’
’But then again, no need for a reunion...’
"No, Old Man Grant, I’m serious, she looks really familiar!!!" Quentin Kane insisted.
Yvonne Lowell smiled. "You probably saw me on the trending topics list a while ago."
"That’s probably it. Her brother made a post online. Yvonne just got back to Aurelia not long ago, so you couldn’t have met her in person," Leo Grant said.
"What about before she came back? Where were you?!"
Unexpectedly, this made Quentin Kane even more agitated. He moved forward, trying to grab Yvonne Lowell’s arm, but was blocked by Leo Grant.
Leo Grant’s brows furrowed slightly. "Quentin Kane."
"It’s okay. I lived mostly in Continent M before, and I don’t remember ever meeting you." Yvonne Lowell tugged on Leo Grant’s sleeve. She had gone to school in Continent M, so it wasn’t exactly a lie.
’She’d just crossed half the globe to save his squad’s lives on the Southwest border of Aurelia, that’s all.’
"I’m sorry. I must have been mistaken." Quentin Kane looked a little dejected, but he quickly put his usual roguish smile back on. "What would you like to eat? This meal’s on me, as an apology for my rudeness."
After they ordered directly at the counter, Leo Grant led Yvonne Lowell to a private room to sit down.
"Sorry about that. He used to be a soldier and was discharged due to injuries from an accident he was in. He said that a few people saved his group back then, but when they woke up, they were already in the hospital, and their saviors were gone. He probably thought your eyes and features resembled one of them, which is why he reacted so strongly. I hope you won’t hold it against him," Leo Grant explained to Yvonne Lowell.
Yvonne Lowell shrugged nonchalantly. "It’s fine, I don’t mind."
Watching them walk away, Quentin Kane’s gaze dimmed as he muttered to himself, "Even her silhouette looks so similar. How could it not be her? Was I really mistaken?"
After serving them their food, Quentin Kane left and didn’t appear again, even when they left.
In the car, Leo Grant turned his head to ask her, "Do you have any other plans this afternoon?"
"Nope. This young lady cleared her entire schedule for you today. Aren’t you going to thank me for my benevolence?" Yvonne Lowell looked at him teasingly.
"Then I am truly honored. I have a resort in the Kingsland Suburbs. Would you like to go to the hot springs?" Leo Grant asked, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly.
Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow. "But I didn’t bring a swimsuit. You didn’t give me a heads-up."
"They have them there! I had someone prepare them in advance," Leo Grant said hurriedly.
"Oh? You even know my size? You’re pretty slick, Gorgeous."
"No! I had them buy one in every size. You can just pick one and throw the rest away." As he said this, the tips of Leo Grant’s ears began to turn red again.
’Tsk, so extravagant.’
"Were you that sure I’d go today? What if I didn’t have time?"
"If you didn’t go, it wouldn’t have mattered. We could save it for next time. Everything’s been prepared for you, so you can go anytime."
Yvonne Lowell chuckled. "Gorgeous, I’m starting to think you have ulterior motives. Did you have this all planned out from the start?"
