Chapter 17: Chapter 16: Innocent Old Boy?

She was halfway through her cigarette when Leo Grant took the remaining half right from her hand. "Smoking is bad for your health, so a whole one is too much. Half each is perfect."

With that, he put it to his lips and took a drag.

’When she heard the first half of his sentence, Yvonne Lowell was about to snap. She couldn’t stand being lectured. Who did he think he was, telling her what to do? Even her old man didn’t dare to nag her!’

But the second half of his sentence, along with Leo Grant’s audacious move, completely threw her for a loop.

"Tsk. President Grant, if you want to kiss me, just say so. Why bother with this indirect-kiss routine? Are you in grade school?" Yvonne Lowell turned her head to stare at his lips.

’Though she’d never actually kissed anyone, she wasn’t completely clueless. Besides, Leo Grant’s lips looked very kissable.’

Her stare made Leo Grant flustered. He sat frozen in place until the cigarette burned down to his fingers, scalding him and snapping him out of his trance.

"Let me just finish up my work, and then we’ll go eat." Leo Grant stood up and strode quickly toward his desk, his gait slightly unsteady.

Yvonne Lowell watched the back of his neck and the tips of his ears turn red, and she had to stifle a laugh.

’What kind of persona is this? A pure-hearted old boy?’

"Hey gorgeous, I’m going to the restroom." Yvonne Lowell decided to stop teasing him and stood up to head out the door.

Leo Grant jerked his chin toward a concealed door on the opposite wall. "There’s one in the lounge. You don’t have to go out."

’Fair enough.’ Yvonne Lowell pushed open the door to his lounge and stepped inside. It was a suite of about 860 square feet.

’She scanned the decor. Tsk, tsk. Classic domineering CEO. All black, white, and gray, just as expected.’

She had just gone inside when her phone, which she’d left on the sofa, started ringing.

Leo Grant walked over and glanced at it. The caller ID just said ’N’.

It would be rude to answer someone else’s phone, so Leo Grant let it ring until it stopped.

When Yvonne Lowell came out, he told her, "Your phone was ringing a moment ago."

"Oh, okay."

Yvonne Lowell glanced at the missed call, walked over to the window, and dialed the number back.

"Talk."

"Tsk. Yvonne, you just crushed all my enthusiasm with a single word."

"Then I’m hanging up."

"Wait! I was just calling to tell you I’m arriving in Kingsland the day after tomorrow. Don’t forget to come pick me up, okay~?"

"I’m busy. Get Zachary Jacobs."

"Aww, come on. I miss you!"

"Heh. Isn’t it because you stole his Legos and you’re scared he’ll chew you out?"

"Oh, come on, we’re all family. Why bring that up? Anyway, there’s something else. They’re asking when you can go help them train."

"We’ll talk about it later. I’m busy," Yvonne Lowell said, gazing out the window at the view.

’Have to admit, the view from here is pretty nice. The Pluto branch... Oh, right, she hadn’t been to the Pluto branch in Kingsland yet, so she didn’t know what the view was like from there. Better to see it first before she shits on it.’

"Deal. I’ll just tell them it’s ’to be determined.’ Hehehe, I’m such a little genius—"

’Damn it! Yvonne Lowell, you hung up on me again!’

After hanging up, Yvonne Lowell switched to a different operating system on her phone and opened a chat window.

[Don’t rush me. Push me again and I’ll refund the money and drop the job.]

Then, as if nothing had happened, she switched back and scrolled idly through her screen.

About ten minutes later, Leo Grant shut down his computer and stood up. "Let’s go eat."

"It’s only five. Wouldn’t this be considered leaving early, President Grant?" Yvonne Lowell looked up and teased.

"I’m worried we’ll hit traffic if we leave any later. Besides, I’ve already finished my work for the day," Leo Grant said, his expression impassive as he picked up her purse.

As the two of them walked out together, the staff in the secretarial office were all craning their necks, trying to get a look without daring to be obvious.

The moment they were gone, the work group chat started blowing up.

[The President left work! He actually left early! Miss Lowell is my hero!]

[So? What’s the scoop? Spill the tea, @HandsomeCheng_SecretarialOffice.]

[She’s gorgeous in person! And the President carried her purse for her! Tsk, tsk. I’ve been working here for seven years, and I’ve never seen him act so whipped.]

[Front Desk Ms. Lowell: Right?! I said they look so good together! *huff, puff*~]

[Gossiping about the boss? You guys must be looking for trouble. I would never. It must be my good upbringing.]

[Heh. You can just admit you’re jealous, you know. It’s not embarrassing. You’re on the 23rd floor, so stay out of our business~]

[Ouch, that hurt! You have to buy me a milk tea to make up for it!]

...

When they reached the ground floor, Yvonne Lowell remembered something and walked toward the front desk, with Leo Grant following right behind her.

This made Ms. Lowell both excited and terrified, her expression twisting a little. "Good afternoon, President Grant. Good afternoon, Miss Lowell."

"Could I get your contact information and address? I’ll have my second brother mail it to you directly. I’m afraid I’ll forget otherwise." Yvonne Lowell said, gently nudging the ’ice block’ standing beside her as she gave a reassuring smile.

’Oh, if we’re talking about this, then I’m not scared anymore!’

Ms. Lowell’s eyes lit up. "Yes, of course! I’ll write it down for you right now. Thank you, Miss Lowell!"

Ms. Lowell handed the note with her address to Yvonne Lowell with both hands. After taking it, Yvonne Lowell made sure to snap a photo of it. "Great. See you next time."

"Okay, okay! Take care, Miss Lowell!"

’Only after Yvonne Lowell had walked out of The Grants’ building did she remember—she hadn’t told the President to take care too.’

’Oh well, whatever. Can’t I just say it to him tomorrow?’

She took out her phone to post on her social media, making sure to also show off in the fan group chat.

[Brother Harrison’s sister is SOOO beautiful!! She came to our company today, and she wasn’t even wearing any makeup! Her features are so delicate, ahhhh!! She told me she’d get me an autographed photo of Brother Harrison, but I didn’t really think much of it. Even if it was just an empty promise, I would’ve been satisfied to bursting just from the thought alone, sniffle!! BUT! When she was leaving, she went out of her way to ask for my address, saying she’d have Brother Harrison’s team arrange it for me directly!! She was worried she might lose the note with my address, so she even took a picture of it! I’m seriously crying right now!! I’m switching who I stan, sob sob... If I become a fan of Yvonne Lowell, what kind of merch is there to buy?]

The replies underneath were a mix of envy, jealousy, and teasing.

[A business magazine?]

[No way. If she hadn’t been publicly reunited with her family, I doubt she would have ever revealed her identity as the secret boss of Pluto. You think she’d ever agree to be in a business magazine?]

[Then just buy her brother’s merch! You can look at it and think of her.]

[Umm, are you sure you’re not just trying to hawk our boy’s merch?]

...

Yvonne Lowell was completely unaware of the commotion online. She sent the address to her second brother with a brief explanation and then promptly forgot about it.

Right now, she was standing at the entrance to the Prosperity Pavilion, a complicated look on her face.

’So this was the place she supposedly couldn’t get into on her own?’

Seeing her still standing there, Leo Grant said, "Let’s go. I’ve already booked a private room."

"Alrighty," Yvonne Lowell said, following him inside.

’The manager waiting in the lobby to welcome Leo Grant suddenly saw... her own boss?! What was happening?!’

"Boss! President Grant, good afternoon!"

’Shit! Yvonne Lowell was just about to shoot her a look, but this woman had already blown her cover?!’
