Xu Ruming kept her eyes locked on Xu Qingsui, unable to understand why her personality had changed so drastically.

Her eyes lit up at Lu Jingyu’s words.

’Although she didn’t know how Xu Qingsui had managed to join the Heiyu Alliance, with her qualifications as a D-level guide, it couldn’t have been for any respectable reason.’

’She and Shen Ling’an were different. They were a B-level guide and a B-level Sentinel.’

’Though there were certainly more talented people out there, in a small place like Zone 9, their abilities were well above average.’

She was certain that if she and Shen Ling’an displayed their strength, they would definitely capture Lu Jingyu’s attention.

"If she starts spreading rumors about us behind our backs, how could we ever show our faces in public again?"

After she whispered a few words in his ear, Shen Ling’an’s expression finally softened.

"Captain Lu, we will prove our abilities to you."

Lu Jingyu nodded. "A few of you, take these two over there. Let them observe first. It would be best if they can handle it, but if they can’t..."

As he spoke, Lu Jingyu glanced at Shen Ling’an and Xu Ruming. "...then you step in. Don’t let anyone die in our Zone 9. We can’t have people thinking the Heiyu Alliance is incompetent."

For some reason, the pair just rubbed him the wrong way.

Shen Ling’an sensed the hostility in Lu Jingyu’s tone and said coldly, "Having your people observe will be enough. We won’t need to trouble you to intervene."

A hint of hostility crept into Shen Ling’an’s voice. As he looked at Lu Jingyu, his gaze drifted, intentionally or not, to Xu Qingsui.

Lu Jingyu paid him no mind. He glanced at the team member who had made the report, and the man led Shen Ling’an and Xu Ruming away.

As she watched them leave, Xu Qingsui’s gaze was cold, betraying no emotion.

Noticing that her gaze lingered, Lu Jingyu spoke up. "What’s the matter? Want to go watch?"

Xu Qingsui glanced at him. "There’s nothing to see. I get sick just looking at that wretched pair."

Lu Jingyu nodded in agreement. He then looked Xu Qingsui over, seeming as if he wanted to say something but held back.

"Is there something on my face?" Xu Qingsui asked, rubbing her cheek in confusion.

Lu Jingyu shook his head. "Nothing on your face. It’s just..."

"Just what?" Lu Jingyu’s teasing successfully piqued her curiosity.

"You have terrible taste!"

Xu Qingsui froze for a second, not immediately understanding what he meant.

When it finally clicked, she just rolled her eyes but didn’t dare say anything back.

’What could she do? The body’s original owner really did have terrible taste, picking up a piece of trash like him!’

She was already hungry, and after such a long delay, Xu Qingsui asked Lu Jingyu to take her to get something to eat.

As the two walked away side-by-side, the onlooking team members exchanged shocked glances.

"Well, I’ll be damned! When have you guys ever seen the boss act like this?"

"See? I told you even an iron tree can blossom!"

"It’s about time the boss blossomed. Otherwise, I was starting to question his orientation."

"The new guide is the first one to ever successfully soothe the boss. Maybe they’re a match made in heaven! Maybe the boss has been waiting all these years just for her!"

But the do-or-die promise had been made. No matter what, he had to bite the bullet and face it.

Xu Qingsui and Lu Jingyu got the news the moment they walked out of the restaurant.

Seeing Xu Qingsui raise an eyebrow with a hint of a gloating expression, Lu Jingyu made a rare suggestion, "Want to go watch the show?"

Xu Qingsui nodded, and Lu Jingyu immediately took her with him to the Eastern District.

By this time in the Eastern District, Shen Ling’an had already engaged the two Mutants.

When he discovered they were A-level Mutants, Shen Ling’an panicked.

As a B-level Sentinel, he could barely hold his own against a single A-level Mutant.

It would take everything he had just for a chance to defeat one.
