Chapter 2: Chapter 2: What Are You Doing to the Captain

Before Xu Qingsui could snap out of it, a squad of uniformed Sentinels rushed over.

"Stop! What do you think you’re doing to our captain!"

The lead Sentinel barked, aiming his gun at Xu Qingsui. "Get away from him now! Or I’ll execute you on the spot!"

Xu Qingsui glanced at them and said coldly, "He’s about to go into a rampage. I’m going to soothe him."

"Idiot! A D-level guide like you wants to soothe our captain?"

A Sentinel strode forward, his eyes burning with anger. "Someone like you would probably have their brain fried the second you entered our captain’s Spiritual Domain! Get lost, now! A High-level guide will be here to handle this!"

Xu Qingsui frowned and was about to speak when the large hand gripping her wrist trembled more violently. Sinister, strange black markings began to appear on his skin.

She possessed the original owner’s memories, so she knew this Sentinel was on the very edge of a rampage.

Steeling herself, Xu Qingsui leaned in and bit down hard on his lips.

As blood welled up, the man let out a muffled groan and subconsciously loosened his grip, his hand moving to wrap around her neck.

In that split second, Xu Qingsui touched her fingers to the center of his brow.

With a flash of white light, she forced her way into the man’s Spiritual Domain.

The scene before her instantly changed. A vast expanse of sea appeared before her.

In the sky, leaden-gray clouds were torn by a long, narrow rift, inside which terrifying lightning surged. The sea’s surface churned with slow waves, and a restless shriek echoed from the distance, where the faint approach of a massive black vortex could be seen.

’This is his Spiritual Domain?’

Xu Qingsui looked around as a prompt from the Golden Octopus sounded in her ear.

[Host, you must find his spirit body quickly. If you are injured here, your spiritual power will also be severely damaged.]

At the same time, the sea began to churn more violently. Pitch-black water surged over the beach and slammed against the nearby cliffs, shattering the hard granite to pieces!

Yet Xu Qingsui remained exceptionally calm. She walked step by step toward the turbulent sea, releasing her spiritual power to search for the Sentinel’s location.

Just then, a violent tremor came from beneath the waves!

A gigantic black snake burst from the surface, its iron-gray eyes fixed on Xu Qingsui as it opened its mouth to reveal sharp fangs!

Its hard scales gleamed as it viciously whipped its tail toward her!

Xu Qingsui didn’t move an inch. The moment before she was struck, she reached out, grabbed the tail, and began to climb up toward its head.

The giant snake thrashed more violently, but Xu Qingsui’s arms remained wrapped firmly around it. While releasing her spiritual power to soothe the rampaging energy within its spirit body, she gently stroked its scales. "Good boy. Behave now. I’ll make you feel better."

Under her soothing touch, the great snake’s struggles gradually weakened, and its body began to shrink.

Its cold tail wrapped around Xu Qingsui’s calf, rubbing tentatively against her skin.

The rubbing tickled Xu Qingsui, and she tried to pull her leg away, but the black snake only clung tighter. Its triangular head nuzzled into the crook of her neck, greedily sniffing her scent.

As its iron-gray eyes slowly closed, the sea’s surface gradually returned to calm.

’Looks like the soothing was a success.’

Xu Qingsui’s lips curved in satisfaction as she gave its head a rewarding pat. "Such a good boy."

At the same time, a prompt sounded in her mind.

[Congratulations, Host, for successfully soothing SSS level sentinel Lu Jingyu. Reward: spiritual power +10, Lost Fragment x1.]

Xu Qingsui asked in confusion, "What’s a Lost Fragment?"

The octopus replied, "[Host, please explore the various pollution sources in Zone 9 to unravel the secrets behind the fragments. This will grant a massive increase to your attribute values.]"

Xu Qingsui thought, ’Heh, this stupid octopus is just dangling another empty promise in front of me.’

Meanwhile, Lu Jingyu lay on the ground, feeling the tension drain from his muscles and his mind.

’That soft body pressed against me... her lazy voice calling me ’boy’... It was such a shameless, audacious nickname, yet it made me crave more!’

’I want to bind her to my side, to cover myself completely in her scent...’

After some time, he awoke from a half-dreaming state, just as Xu Qingsui withdrew from his Spiritual Domain.

Their eyes met. Lu Jingyu stared at her small, still somewhat childish face and reflexively clenched his fists.

’Who is she? How could we be such a perfect match?’

Seeing him awake, the other Sentinels rushed forward. "Captain, are you alright?"

Lu Jingyu composed himself, standing up and straightening his uniform. "I’m fine. Have all the surrounding mutated creatures been dealt with?"

Looking into his clear, sharp, almond-shaped eyes, the Sentinels were all in disbelief.

"You mean... that guide actually succeeded in soothing you?"

Several of them stared at Xu Qingsui as if she were a monster. "At her level... how is that possible? Even the specialist sent from Central City could only temporarily suppress the captain’s rampages!"

Lu Jingyu’s brows furrowed. Only then did he clearly see the brass badge on Xu Qingsui’s chest, the symbol of a D level guide.

His brow twitched, and astonishment flashed in his eyes.

After that soothing, he could clearly feel that many of the wounds within his Spiritual Domain had been healed. Yet before, those A level Guides couldn’t even touch his spirit body!

Coming to his senses, he pressed his lips together and stepped forward. "Thank you."

Xu Qingsui accepted this calmly. "You’re welcome. It was nothing."

After a pause, she asked tentatively, "Are you a survivor squad from Zone 9?"

Before Lu Jingyu could speak, one of the Sentinels piped up enthusiastically, "Esteemed Guide, we’re members of the Heiyu Alliance! This is our leader; you must have heard of him! How about joining us?"

"Are you an A level Guide? Why are you deliberately wearing a D level badge? Is it to hide your identity?"

"The strong are always so modest! Our Alliance doesn’t have a guide as incredible as you! Ma’am, have you formed a contract yet? You can have your pick of any of our Sentinels!"

The whole group was smiling with utmost respect and enthusiasm, a complete change from their earlier, murderous attitude. They were like different people entirely.

Only one female Sentinel sneered and muttered, "Hmph. Who knows if that was just a lucky fluke. With the commander’s strength, he probably would have pulled through on his own without her ’soothing’..."

Lu Jingyu shot the group a cool glance, and the surrounding Sentinels immediately fell silent.

Then, he parted his lips and said to Xu Qingsui, "Guide, it isn’t safe here. If you wish, I can have my men escort you to the teleporter designated for A level Guides."

He didn’t think a High level Guide like her would be willing to stay in a contaminated zone. After all, in Central City, A level Guides were honored guests of the rich and powerful—a rare and welcome sight.

Xu Qingsui was a little confused. ’Why do they think I’m A level?’

Just as she was about to speak, a Sentinel ran over in a panic. "Captain! The pollution source at Chemical Plant No. 9 has suddenly spread and is leaking! Many people have been seriously injured by mutated creatures! The instance is about to open, we need immediate backup!"
