Chapter 15: Chapter 15: You Have to Believe Me

"So how am I supposed to handle this? I can’t even touch this shield, and now it’s actually controlling me."

"This is a defensive shield the giant turtle created with its Spiritual Power. Brute force won’t solve this. To break it, you have to use Spiritual Power."

"Use Spiritual Power?"

Xu Qingsui murmured. The Golden Octopus said no more.

Staring at the massive shield before her, Xu Qingsui mulled it over and slowly gathered her Spiritual Power into her trapped hand.

When her Spiritual Power touched the shield, she faintly felt a pulling sensation.

Realizing it was working, she quickly diverted a portion of her Spiritual Power into her other hand.

Using her hands, now imbued with Spiritual Power, she pulled at the edge of the shield that bound her wrists.

Xu Qingsui tried to pull the shield apart, but the massive shield was tougher than she had imagined.

She continued to channel her Spiritual Power, trying again and again. Finally, on her third attempt, she managed to pull open a gap in the shield.

She pulled her trapped hand free. Not daring to delay, she prepared to press her advantage.

But before she could act, a point of dark green light flew out from the gap.

Before she could even see what it was, the point of dark green light burrowed into her neck.

Xu Qingsui felt a sharp pain in her neck, and then her own Spiritual Power began to flow toward the wound.

She had experienced this feeling once before. Something was absorbing her Spiritual Power.

’It’s the giant turtle’s spirit body!’

A jolt of realization hit Xu Qingsui. She wasn’t about to serve herself up as a meal.

Ignoring the discomfort from her draining Spiritual Power, Xu Qingsui looked up and grabbed at her neck.

There was a bloody hole where the pain was. She froze for a moment.

’I can’t believe that thing actually burrowed inside.’

Gritting her teeth, Xu Qingsui forced her fingers into the bloody hole, groping around until she touched the little thing inside that was devouring her Spiritual Power.

She endured the intense pain and, with the help of her Spiritual Power, brutally dug the small creature out of her neck.

Looking at what she had dug out, Xu Qingsui finally saw it clearly. The giant turtle’s spirit body was actually a small turtle, only about the size of an egg.

Seeing her own blood still on the small turtle, a viciousness rose in Xu Qingsui’s heart. She clenched her fist abruptly, and the egg-sized turtle instantly shattered in her palm.

A dense wave of Spiritual Power drilled into her body through her pores.

Feeling the replenishment of her Spiritual Power, the discomfort from having it drained slowly faded away.

It was even replaced by a feeling of fullness, of being more powerful than before.

The sensation was incredibly comfortable, and she slowly closed her eyes, immersing herself in it.

At the same time, the giant turtle, which had still been struggling moments before, instantly lost all signs of life.

However, Lu Jingyu, lost in his frenzy, hadn’t realized this and continued his relentless assault.

The other team members noticed the giant turtle’s state, but looking at Lu Jingyu, none of them could feel happy about it.

Because they all knew that in Lu Jingyu’s current condition, once he lost the giant turtle as a target, they would become the next one.

While Lu Jingyu hadn’t yet reacted, the others prepared to retreat, to run as far as they could and give themselves a chance at survival.

With the giant turtle dead, its defenses rapidly crumbled.

Its already shattered shell could no longer withstand Lu Jingyu’s attacks.

After just a few more hits, it completely disintegrated, scattering across the ground.

The dagger continued to stab into the giant turtle’s flesh. Each thrust and pull caused the massive body to shudder violently.

The violent shaking finally woke Xu Qingsui, who had finished absorbing the giant turtle’s spirit body.

Guessing that chaos had erupted outside, Xu Qingsui knew she couldn’t delay any longer.

As her consciousness returned to her body, a gash happened to be stabbed open right beside her.

’Going out covered in blood is better than coming out as poop.’

Xu Qingsui didn’t hesitate and immediately squeezed out through the gash.

The moment she was out, a gleaming dagger plunged down toward her.

She used all her strength to roll to one side.

But she had no time to calm her nerves before she noticed Lu Jingyu’s condition.

The memories from the original owner of her body told her that Lu Jingyu had gone berserk.

She knew that facing the giant turtle would ultimately cause Lu Jingyu to go berserk.

But the reason he’d gone berserk so early was mainly due to her own instigation.

’I started this fire, so I have to be the one to put it out.’

Not daring to delay any longer, Xu Qingsui immediately rushed toward Lu Jingyu.

Afraid of attracting Lu Jingyu’s attention, the other team members were all escaping cautiously, glancing back from time to time to check on his movements.

The moment Xu Qingsui appeared, everyone saw her.

Seeing Xu Qingsui, their hopes were rekindled.

Some gave up on fleeing, while others continued to retreat.

As Xu Qingsui charged forward, Lu Jingyu raised his dagger again.

With a cold, severe expression, Xu Qingsui used her own strength to forcibly catch both his hands.

The difference in their strength was instantly obvious.

Even though Xu Qingsui used all her strength, her face flushing red from the effort, she couldn’t hold him back.

But her appearance had finally drawn Lu Jingyu’s attention to her.

Not recognizing the woman before him, Lu Jingyu raised his hand to plunge the dagger into her chest.

But at the last second, Xu Qingsui used all her strength to shove Lu Jingyu’s arm aside, deflecting the dagger’s point away from her body.

Then, disregarding everything, she threw herself into Lu Jingyu’s arms.

As the soft figure fell into his embrace, a strange fragrance broke through the seal on Lu Jingyu’s nose.

Smelling the strange fragrance, Lu Jingyu faltered for a moment.

Seizing the moment of his hesitation, Xu Qingsui pressed her forehead against his, releasing her Spiritual Power and entering Lu Jingyu’s Sea of Consciousness.

RUMBLE!

This was different from the last time she had entered Lu Jingyu’s Sea of Consciousness.

Now, dark clouds covered the black ocean, and lightning rolled between them.

Peals of thunder crashed onto the sea’s surface, kicking up monstrous waves.

Just by standing on the shore, Xu Qingsui felt a pressure so immense it was hard for her to breathe.

RUMBLE!

As if sensing an intruder, a bolt of lightning struck right at her feet.

The sand beneath her feet was instantly incinerated.

It had missed by a hair’s breadth. If she had been just one tiny step forward, her body would now be a pile of ash.

Phew!

Xu Qingsui let out a shaky breath, her entire body feeling weak.

But she knew she couldn’t retreat. She took a few deep breaths and slowly walked toward the sea’s surface.

With every step she took, a terrifying bolt of lightning would strike down.

But whether by coincidence or for some other reason, they always missed by the slimmest of margins, allowing her to keep her life.

Regardless, this gave her a bit more confidence.

She only stopped when the black seawater washed over the soles of her shoes.

"Do you remember me? Can you come out and meet me?"

Xu Qingsui called out in a soft voice, but received no reply.

"I know you’re in a lot of pain right now. Trust me, I can help you."
