Chapter 7: Assigned Class

"Alice Silvercrown."

The girl standing next to Zaid jumped to her feet. "Y-yes," she replied and walked mechanically over to the rock.

The young men who were watching her stood there with their mouths agape.

"W-was she really that beautiful?"

"Shut up, you idiot. Can’t you see that’s Young Lord Luke’s?"

"Huh? Really?"

"But she’s... really beautiful. Look at that amazing body and those..."

The man who was speaking and praising the beautiful woman was suddenly silenced by a dangerous glare.

Luke Shawn turned and shot him a threatening look without saying a word.

He swallowed hard and fell silent, his head bowed.

All of this made Alice nervous, so she swallowed hard several times and brushed off her clothes.

She was wearing denim shorts—short and youthful. She had on a crop top that reached halfway down her stomach, with straps tied very tightly. The colors were dull—brown like leather and without any nuance.

Despite that—and the fact that her gait was awkward—she looked extraordinarily good. Since she was from one of the villages made up of survivors of the portals who depended on other cities for their survival, this type of clothing was common, as they constantly faced beasts.

She looked at her hands and took a deep breath.

"I’m a peculiar mage... I wonder if I’ll be able to get through this." She murmured in a nearly inaudible voice.

"Hm?" Robinson tilted his head. "Are you all right, Miss Alice?" he asked.

"Ah." She shook her head. "Y-yes, I’m fine. I’ll do it right away."

She tapped her cheek a few times. "Everything will be fine. Mom and Dad are waiting for me to make my entrance here... Besides, I’m strong..." she told herself as she mentally prepared.

Without further hesitation, she unleashed her strongest punch against the rock... compared to that of most martial artists or those focused on strength, it was a weak punch.

However, she was the most spirited mage among all the mages present. Her muscles tensed at the moment of the blow.

Bright!

The rock immediately lit up.

A distinctive red color enveloped the rock, but it also had distinct streaks of yellow, green, and even a little blue.

She had a good distribution of stats!

[Average of 60 to 70 Stat Points]

"That’s a good average for an 18-year-old from a remote area," Robinson praised her. "Keep working hard from now on. You’re in. You’ll be assigned to a class based on your current strength." He told her.

She couldn’t believe it... She looked down at her average, which she already knew because she had calculated it, but it still took her by surprise. She heard the voices behind her and then the teacher’s praise...

"T-thank you, Professor Robinson." She swallowed nervously, but smiled radiantly.

Even Robinson was transfixed by that enchanting beauty.

Robinson isn’t that much older; in fact, he’s only a year older than her. Even though he’s a teacher, it’s just part of his internship, since he’s set to graduate next year.

It’s only natural that he’d be drawn to a smile as beautiful as that.

However, he managed to hide his intentions. Although he was a member of the Shawn family, he couldn’t compare to the status enjoyed by the great Luke Shawn, son of the family patriarch himself and godson of Zayn Zachary.

Alice returned to her seat in high spirits; still nervous, but smiling.

Zaid simply nodded at her with a congratulatory smile when their eyes met. She felt embarrassed again, but she smiled back at him.

"Zaid Zachary," Robinson called out to him, but he didn’t even turn to face him.

"Oh, here comes that Zachary trash..."

"Hehe, this guy just doesn’t give up."

"Hey, did you hear that the Zacharys apparently kicked him out..." someone in the know whispered to his group of friends.

"What? Really?"

"Apparently, it’s news that might break soon. The rumor was going around this morning, and my dad said that..."

Zaid stood up and walked toward the rock. He ignored the mocking whispers and simply looked straight ahead.

He also ignored Luke’s attempt to trip him, which failed because Luke was so small.

Zaid was focused on something else.

He knew the minimum passing score was 40, but someone with 50 points failed just a few minutes ago.

Of the 20 students present, 8 failed the test. Most were close to 40 points, but they still didn’t quite make it. No one understood why someone would even take the entrance exam if they didn’t even meet that minimum requirement.

But two of them had an average between 50 and 60, yet they failed. That’s because they have a stat that doesn’t match their talent—as their primary stat, or at least that’s what the teacher said.

’My problem is... Which stat best matches my talent?’ he thought.

’I hope it’s not Agility.’ He smiled. It was the only one whose score was below 15.

He took a deep breath. He looked at the rock and clenched his fists.

"Hurry up, you jerk. We don’t have time for this crap." Suddenly, Robinson got annoyed that he was taking so long.

Zaid sighed. "Dude, will you shut up? I’m trying to concentrate."

"You...!"

Lucius ignored him. ’Scavenger... doesn’t seem to be a talent with a primary stat, does it?’ He swung his powerful arm forward.

BOOM!

Bright!

The explosion and the flash came together.

A blue light illuminated everything!

But immediately afterward, it also lit up in yellow and red—completely!

The only thing that stood out was the green color.

[Several stats are at the same level.

Average of 50 to 60 stat points.]

Robinson stared at it in shock.

"That bastard has several stats at the same level? That’s awesome!" exclaimed someone who couldn’t keep quiet.

Everyone turned to look at him... Was he praising him or insulting him?

Robinson clenched his fists in his pockets. His gaze turned menacing.

"You can go back. You’ll be assigned a class later," he said coldly, before turning away to return to his desk.

Zaid glanced at him out of the corner of his eye as he turned back. ’The gap between him and me is huge. We’re almost the same age, but he’s already a Level 25 Rank D... I’m really falling too far behind,’ he thought. He needed to make up for that lost time.

He walked back to his seat.

-

At some point, Robinson left the room and returned 30 minutes later.

"Those who did not pass the test may leave through the back door. The twelve of you who passed, please come up here to receive your registration form."

Those who failed the test walked away with their heads down. They sighed; some cried, while others ran off to hide their shame... Some simply said: "Next year will be better..."

Others, who were already 18, knew there wouldn’t be a next year.

Zaid watched them leave one by one... In a way, they were better off than he had been yesterday. Even though he had a prestigious last name, just yesterday he had nearly died because his family had cast him aside.

’I guess I was lucky now,’ he thought, looking straight ahead.

The twelve who made it through picked up their registration documents.

"I think we’ll see each other soon, you little bastard," Robinson whispered mockingly as Zaid received his document.

Zaid frowned and looked at the sheet:

[Zaid Zachary.

Assigned Class: F#3.

Assigned Teacher: Robinson Shawn.]
