Chapter 4: Rarity and Pulling System?

It had been three days since the assembly, and with the fleet of military aircraft carrying all the examinees, they were now all designated to arrive in Calais in around 5 to 10 minutes.

The fleet was composed of three C-17s, a large grey aircraft with a total of four engines under its wings and a body large enough for an entire truck to drive in. But of course, instead of trucks, there were a hundred examinees per aircraft.

While some of these examinees shook with terror and anxiety, or made peace in the three days they were given to prepare, there was a certain German woman sitting calmly, staring into the air.

Hilde stared at the floating screen in her seat, her face reflecting a smile filled with amusement from what had happened in three days.

Near the end of the assembly, when Hilda took the stage to introduce herself, the System had assigned her another quest to complete with an unexpected requirement.

From what she gathered at the time, the System wanted her to establish some sort of protection over the woman—in case something sparked in the Exam. At first, she was keen on the idea; after all, she wasn’t a babysitter.

But with that thought came another: what counted as a deterrence claim to the System?

’It didn’t say how I could go about completing it.’ Hilda giggled mischievously, remembering the sort of reactions she got at the hotel plaza.

There were obviously better ways to establish deterrence, but Hilda felt it was a lot more entertaining to propose to Nadia.

’The System accepted it, so it works out.’

Waving away the floating screen, Hilda glanced to the side and immediately matched the gaze of a blue-eyed woman.

Nadia, who had been staring at Hilda rather intensely, instantly turned away when she was found out.

Since that day, she had been left utterly confused. Nadia had absolutely no idea why Hilda would suddenly propose to her. Even if it was to try and recruit Nadia, because of her immense Vitality, wasn’t there a better way to do it?

’Maybe propose is code for something...’

That had to be it, right?

Nadia took one curious glance back at Hilda to find the German slowly waving at her with a broad smile.

Her face immediately contorted as she looked away, wrapping her arms around her chest, as if she was afraid the LRM Representative would try to steal her purity.

This frightened reaction from the Heroine left an even wider and amused smile on Hilda’s face.

’How fun!’ She thought, leaning back into her seat without a care in the world. But then perked up when she remembered something important.

’Ah, I should inspect that System Space the System was talking about.’

Sitting up straight, Hilda willed the System to come back—something she learned to do over the past 9 days, instead of letting it follow around her constantly. She then navigated towards a button that stated in bold, System Space.

[Single Pull: Free (One-Time)]

Hilda rubbed her chin meticulously.

’What are Pulls?’ She thought curiously before tapping Single Pull.

[Pulling... Pulling... Complete!]

[Common: Glock 17]

Hilda raised an eyebrow before being notified of a change by the System.

[System Inventory: Glock 17]

On the screen, divided into four columns, were rows of light blue boxes. And in one of them was the gun she had pulled from the System Space.

’A pistol?’ Hilda rubbed her chin, scrutinising the 2D image of the gun. Then, without much thought, she tapped the slot holding the gun and watched as it magically materialised in the air—falling into her lap.

Holding it in her hand, Hilda inspected its sides.

’It’s really a gun...’ Hilda thought before eyeing the floating screen. ’Did you steal this from somewhere? Or did you create this from thin air?’

The System didn’t respond.

Hilda gave the silent System a deadpan look before returning her attention to the pistol.

’The System labelled this as Common. Now, what does that mean? A rarity system?’

This time, the System gave a response to internal inquiries.

[Common ~70%: Common military gear/rations. Nothing too remarkable.]

[Reinforced ~24%: Gear made from low-tier Predicaments, or Minor Intel]

[Special ~5.5%: Gear made from higher-tier Predicaments, Special Spiritual Manuals, or Major Intel]

[Ground-Breaking ~0.5%: Major Intel on whatever you want.]

Hilda widened her eyes.

’There are so many I can get! Gear made from Predicaments... and Spiritual Manuals as well?’

Having already been intrigued by the System’s presumptuous ability to create objects from thin air, she was also keen on getting her hands on the things the System was advertising.

’Could I pull another, I wonder?’

Feeling an indescribable sensation to do another pull, Hilda returned to the System Space, but became sour over what she saw.

’A hundred...? How much do I have now?’

[System Currency (SC): 30]

Hilda folded her arms in disappointment, still hanging onto the gun. ’From what I know, by now, the System rewards me for completing Quests surrounding Nadia Crane...’

The German woman slowly glanced back at the Heroine, who hadn’t glanced back since she was caught staring. Hilda narrowed her eyes a bit.

Although she didn’t know what the System had in store for her in the future, regarding Nadia, Hilda had decided she would play along and see what was so special about the woman, special enough that the System would surround itself around her.

Hilda returned the gun to the System Inventory, under the eyes of the girl sitting beside her, Seraphine.

The Transmigrator was wide-eyed at what she saw. Having watched Hilda randomly pull out a gun from nowhere and make it disappear a few seconds later, she was in utter shock.

’I didn’t remember her having this sort of ability!’
