Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Stockpiling 2
For the next few days, the family divided the work and kept busy.
Shortly after arranging for Miles Dawson to take a leave of absence from school, Sister King called to inform Luna Dawson that it was time to sign the sales contract with the buyer.
The signing and handover went off without a hitch, and 4.6 million was successfully deposited into her account.
Combined with the five million from a fixed deposit she had withdrawn from the bank, Luna Dawson suddenly had ample funds. Her confidence for stockpiling shot through the roof.
Her first stop was the city’s slaughterhouse, where she placed a massive order: "Five hundred pigs, five hundred cattle, and five hundred sheep. After slaughter, I want them butchered and packaged by cut. Clean all the organs and offal too before delivering everything to the warehouse."
Seeing how decisive and generous Luna Dawson was, the owner immediately agreed to prioritize her order.
Next, she contacted local farmers and ordered two thousand of the province’s specialty free-range chickens, two thousand ducks, and two thousand geese.
Within two days, truckloads of fresh meat began arriving at the warehouse.
Luna Dawson shut the warehouse door. Facing the mountain of fresh meat, she activated her power with a single thought, and all of it was absorbed into her space.
Watching Luna Dawson’s incredible feat, Rosalind Dawson and Miles Dawson were no longer shocked as they had been the first time.
At first, Miles Dawson had been incredibly complimentary, calling his sister a "little fairy" every day. But after seeing her powers so many times, their reactions had become numb. They were completely used to it.
Luna Dawson had a touch of OCD; she couldn’t stand seeing things piled messily in her space. So, she contacted a factory for custom shelving, ordering one thousand large units. She planned to neatly categorize and arrange all the supplies.
On her birthday, after hiring two managers to watch over the warehouse at the logistics park, the entire family moved back to their home in the countryside.
Mrs. Dawson cooked at home. This time, she didn’t invite her brother’s family over for the meal.
The main reason was that they hadn’t yet figured out what to tell them.
The siblings went to a lottery outlet to buy tickets. She picked several sets of numbers based on the digits surrounding her brother’s birthday, just in case she had misremembered the winning combination.
On the night of the draw, the family sat around the TV, staring intently at the winning numbers scrolling across the screen.
Once all the numbers were announced, the family huddled together, checking the ticket three times over.
It was true! They had really won the grand prize!
With the single-ticket prize and the jackpot bonus combined, the ticket was worth a staggering 2.1 billion!
Following the official procedure, she kept the ticket safe, gathered her ID and bank card, and headed to the provincial lottery center with a heart full of nervous anticipation.
Verifying the ticket’s authenticity and registering her personal information—the whole process was tedious and draining.
Throughout the entire process, Luna Dawson’s fingers trembled. She cooperated cautiously with the staff, terrified of making even the smallest mistake.
A week later, a text message from the bank popped up on her phone: after taxes and fees, 1.638 billion had been successfully deposited into her account!
Luna Dawson stared at the screen for a long time before making a swift decision: she would donate 5 million to the Red Cross, specifically for a rural poverty alleviation fund.
As soon as she got home after making the donation, Luna Dawson eagerly entered her space.
She had been secretly hoping the good deed would result in a pleasant surprise, but the dense fog at the edge of her space remained completely motionless...
She couldn’t help but sigh. "Oh well, looks like that didn’t work. I’ll just have to try with Crystal Cores after the apocalypse."
After resting for two days, Luna Dawson planned to set off for Kensington.
She had wanted to go alone, but Mrs. Dawson absolutely refused, muttering, "I can’t let you be all by yourself again."
The stubbornness in her tone made it impossible for Luna Dawson to refuse, so she finally compromised and had Miles Dawson accompany her.
Her goal was very clear: the Dragon Lake Villa Area in Southwest Kensington.
The development was built into the side of a mountain, spanning over 330 acres. It featured multiple recreational centers and high-end clubhouses and was an exclusive community of fully detached homes. With only 288 units in total, each with a garden of at least 2,000 square meters, it was undeniably one of Kensington’s top-tier villa communities.
Most importantly, Kensington’s future safe zone was set to be established right in this area.
Luna Dawson didn’t hesitate, spending two hundred million to buy one of the villas.
It had three and a half stories above ground and two basement levels. The deeded area was 800 square meters, but the actual usable space was well over 2,000 square meters—more than enough for her family to live securely after the apocalypse.
Next, she contacted a top-tier renovation team from D Nation and commissioned them to transform the villa into a bona fide apocalyptic fortress.
Hiring a foreign team was also a way to avoid potential trouble after the apocalypse began.
After arranging the villa’s renovation, Luna Dawson contacted a company that specialized in light-steel prefabricated villas and custom-ordered ten of them.
Each was a two-story structure with a 200-square-meter footprint. She specifically requested they be built with reinforced, extra-thick, insulated materials that were both corrosion- and impact-resistant. All the windows were to be upgraded to bulletproof glass.
Fireplaces were to be installed in the living room and every bedroom to guarantee a source of heat after the apocalypse. This alone cost another twenty million.
Luna Dawson believed that the mark of a species’ civilization was the cleanliness and comfort of its toilets.
There wouldn’t be any flushing toilets in the apocalypse. Whether out on a mission, staying in a mobile home, or camping in an RV, people would still need a way to answer nature’s call.
She immediately contacted a manufacturer of portable composting toilets and ordered one thousand high-end units, along with a massive supply of the required microbes and decomposition agents.
Watching his sister’s relentless string of purchases, Miles Dawson couldn’t help but tease, "Sis, are you planning on living in a luxury mansion during the apocalypse or something?"
Luna Dawson shot him a look and replied deadpan, "I can afford it. What’s wrong with wanting to be comfortable?"
...
After a flurry of activity, the two siblings returned to the city.
They had lunch at a famous roast duck restaurant, and while they were at it, placed orders with several other duck restaurants for a total of one thousand roast ducks.
Full and satisfied, the pair took a cab to a car dealership, where an intern salesperson named Claire Wright was standing by the entrance.
As a rookie, she didn’t have many clients of her own, so she often stood by the door, hoping to catch a walk-in.
The moment she saw them, she approached enthusiastically. "Hello, welcome to Dongfeng. Please, have a seat..."
After they sat down, Luna Dawson began flipping through a brochure on the table. Claire Wright brought them two glasses of water and asked with a smile, "Is there any particular model you’re interested in? If you have time, you’re more than welcome to take one for a test drive to get a feel for it."
Luna Dawson spoke calmly, "The Warrior ’Jiaolong Armor.’ We’d like to test drive it."
Claire Wright’s eyes lit up. "Okay, please follow me!"
She happily led the pair outside. As they passed the front desk, a contemptuous female voice drifted over. "It’s just a test drive of an expensive car, and she’s acting that happy? People from the sticks have never seen anything."
A hint of embarrassment flashed across Claire Wright’s face, but she said nothing and walked on with her head held high.
...
From a distance, Miles Dawson spotted it: a black steel behemoth parked silently up ahead, dwarfing the sedans next to it.
He shouted excitedly, "Is that it?!"
"Yes, Mr. Dawson. This model was just released this year. Please, get in..." she said, opening the doors for Miles and Luna Dawson and turning on the AC. She stood by the driver’s side door, stumbling over her words slightly as she began to explain the vehicle’s features.
Luna Dawson gestured for her to get in. "Come on in and tell us. You’ll get heatstroke out there, and you’re letting all the cold air out..."
Claire Wright finally realized she was still standing outside. "Oh, I’m so sorry! I got so focused I didn’t even notice. I’m coming..."
She quickly hopped into the back seat and continued her detailed explanation of the vehicle’s performance and various features.
After they completed a circuit and returned, Miles Dawson jumped out of the car and rushed over to Luna Dawson. Trying to calm his racing heart, he secretly pinched her hand and whispered, "Dearest sister, my favorite sister in the whole world, I absolutely love this car."
Back in the showroom, after they sat down and went over the pricing, Luna Dawson said, "I’ll take ten. I also want ten sets of core spare parts for each vehicle. Calculate the deposit for me. I’m in a hurry, so I hope you can source them as quickly as possible. I’ll pay the remaining balance upon pickup."
"Ten... Miss Dawson, are you sure you mean ten...?" Claire Wright’s voice trembled slightly.
Luna Dawson smiled and nodded.
Claire Wright practically jumped for joy. "Okay! Yes! Please wait just a moment!"
A moment later, a Manager Miller came with Claire Wright, and together they handled all the paperwork for Luna Dawson.
