Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Take It All

Shane Shaw was the first to snap back to his senses. He grabbed a vase from the living room and hurled it downstairs.

After waiting a few seconds and hearing no zombie roars from downstairs, he let out a deep breath. He turned to Luna Dawson and Kevin Keane, bowing in gratitude. "Thank you so much! I don’t think there are any zombies left."

Luna Dawson nodded. She cast a deep glance at the survivors—Drew Dunn, Jasmine Donovan, and Dexter Wallace—then moved aside the debris blocking the staircase and headed down.

"Well, the job’s done. Time to collect our payment."

Shane Shaw immediately pulled Nancy Sullivan along, afraid of being left behind.

Though Nancy Sullivan had just finished throwing up, her face pale and drawn, her eyes were surprisingly bright as she gazed at Luna Dawson with pure admiration.

Drew Dunn, Jasmine Donovan, and Dexter Wallace huddled together, watching the backs of the four as they went downstairs and muttering amongst themselves.

When they reached the first-floor living room, Nancy Sullivan tugged on Luna Dawson’s sleeve, introducing excitedly, flush with the relief of having survived.

"There’s a cold storage room in the second basement, and the first basement is a supply room! Hector Miller took us to get things before. I’ll take you!"

Luna Dawson looked at Nancy’s sparkling eyes, then glanced at Shane Shaw’s still-bleeding right hand. She gave a slight nod. "Let’s go."

At this, Drew Dunn couldn’t hold back any longer. "Those are our supplies! What right do you have to take them?"

His family also had a house in this exclusive area, but it was closer to the city, where it was much more crowded. Kensington had a population of tens of millions, and the current number of zombies was terrifyingly high. He didn’t dare try to go home!

’If all the supplies here are gone, I won’t survive!’

Dexter Wallace also slowly descended the stairs. "Shane Shaw was the one who made you that promise; we never agreed to you taking the supplies. Besides, it was your negligence that caused us to lose two of our classmates!"

Remembering her recent humiliation, Jasmine Donovan immediately chimed in, "That’s right! If you want to take this villa’s supplies, you have to protect us and escort us home!"

"Yeah!"

"We all live in this neighborhood!"

"You have guns, so you have to protect us!"

Luna Dawson replied lazily, "Oh? And I suppose we didn’t just save the three of you?"

The three of them froze but remained defiant, attempting to guilt-trip her.

"Agatha Palmer is dead!"

"You have to take responsibility!"

"Exactly! Since you’re strong, you should protect the weak!"

Luna Dawson looked into their purely foolish eyes and said, with feigned kindness, "I’ll leave you two months’ worth of supplies. Good luck holding out for the official rescue."

Drew Dunn’s eyes lit up. "Official rescue?"

"How do you know it will be two months?"

"What if the official rescue doesn’t come?"

"What if we run into danger during these two months?"

"What if more zombies show up?"

They all started talking at once, desperately treating Luna Dawson as their lifeline in the apocalypse.

Luna Dawson’s patience ran out. "Live if you can. If you can’t, die!"

As soon as the words left her mouth, they clammed up, suddenly timid as quails.

Luna Dawson closed her eyes, focusing her senses. Invisible threads of Spirit probed downwards, beneath the villa.

A moment later, she opened her eyes. "There are still two in the basement," she whispered, her voice low as she leaned in close to Kevin Keane’s ear.

Kevin Keane’s eyes flickered. ’Does Little Boss have a Spiritual System superpower, too?’

He understood immediately. With perfect, unspoken chemistry, the two of them started down the stairs, slowly tapping the handrail as they went.

Shane Shaw and Nancy Sullivan quickly grabbed kitchen cleavers and followed them down.

Just then, attracted by the noise, two zombies came staggering toward the stairs.

"You want to take care of these two, or should we just clear them out?"

Luna Dawson asked, glancing over at Shane Shaw.

After all, the siblings were both quite good-looking, and they had remained calm and stayed out of trouble. Luna found them rather agreeable.

"Thank you! Could you leave one for us to practice on?"

Shane Shaw’s gentle voice was filled with gratitude.

’I have to adapt to this apocalypse as soon as possible so I can keep my family alive!’

As they spoke, one of the zombies had already rushed up to them. Shane Shaw’s legs trembled slightly, an unconscious reaction to his nerves.

He took a deep breath, aimed for the zombie’s neck, and swung with all his might. With a single, clean strike, the zombie’s head rolled to the ground.

He let out a long sigh, a wave of relief washing over him.

Nancy Sullivan, watching from the side, found the sight of the headless corpse her brother had felled utterly horrifying. She struggled to calm her wildly pounding heart.

Though terrified, her eyes still shone with admiration for her brother.

After Kevin Keane took down the other zombie with a single shot, Luna Dawson began collecting the supplies in earnest.

To her delight, the cold storage was large and had a generator keeping it running. She happily swept its contents clean.

’After all, if the diesel fuel ran out, all these things would just go to waste.’

’It’s a pity,’ she thought. ’The owner of this villa had clearly prepared so thoroughly, yet they didn’t even survive the first wave of mutations...’

The others who had followed them down watched the supplies vanish into thin air, their eyes wide with shock. A superpower like that was simply unbelievable!

Nancy Sullivan was especially stunned. She herself had a low-level Space Ability, but it was only two square meters!

’It couldn’t hold anywhere near that much!’

Luna Dawson picked and chose, happily collecting some practical furniture and helping herself to the villa owner’s entire treasured collection of expensive cigarettes, liquor, and tea.

During their initial zombie-clearing operations, Luna Dawson had already collected several SUVs from other villas. Back then, Kevin Keane had been shocked every single time he saw things vanish into thin air, but he had seen it so often now that he was gradually getting used to it.

"You always look so happy when you’re collecting things."

Kevin Keane commented with a light laugh, watching her grab one thing after another like a little hamster hoarding its stash.

"Of course I am. Looking at the state of things, who knows when production will ever resume?" Luna Dawson said, beaming. "Oh, right. See if there’s anything you want and grab it. If not, we’re heading out."

Kevin Keane glanced at the hundreds of pounds of rice, flour, oil, dried vegetables, and cured meat remaining in the supply room—certainly enough to feed the others for several months. "You’re not taking the snacks from the shelves?" he asked.

"I’m already stocked up. Besides, the packaging on these is stained with blood. Let’s leave a little something for others to survive on." Luna Dawson waved her hand, signaling for everyone to head upstairs.

Nancy Sullivan scampered ahead and was the first to open the garage door. "This is their garage! Do you want a car?"

Luna Dawson took a look: a Class B motorhome, an MPV, and a supercar. She sighed. After a while, when the plants began to overgrow everything, none of these cars would be drivable. She couldn’t be bothered to take them.

"No. Not impressed."

"Do you want any of the other things left in the villa? Can we... can we take some of the things you don’t want?"

Nancy Sullivan’s face flushed as she asked shyly. Luna Dawson was about her age, yet she didn’t even blink when killing zombies. She was completely in awe.

"Don’t want ’em. Take whatever you want," Luna Dawson said quietly.

In truth, as long as people were reasonable, Luna Dawson was quite easy to deal with.

The other three looked at the two nearly empty basement levels. Jasmine Donovan grumbled resentfully, "Of all people, why did a vicious woman like her have to awaken a Space Ability?"

Drew Dunn ran forward and demanded, "Why don’t we have superpowers!?"

Luna Dawson’s gaze swept over them. "You might awaken a superpower if you fall into a coma with a high fever." Her eyes then lingered on Dexter Wallace, who was walking with a limp. "Was anyone injured in the rooms just now?"

The villa residents exchanged glances. It was true that sometimes they couldn’t get certain people to open their doors, but because they all argued so frequently, it was just as common for people to ignore each other. They couldn’t be sure who might have a superpower.

Dexter Wallace, however, glanced at Jasmine Donovan, his gaze flickering away for an instant.
