Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Noisy

Luna Dawson glanced up at the third floor, then flicked the blood from her blade and said to Evan Olson beside her.

"Brother Evan, drive the car into the courtyard first and lock the gate."

Sure enough, just as the gate was locked, the surrounding zombies were drawn in by the earlier scream. Dozens of them swarmed the villa’s steel fence, beating against it frantically. A continuous CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! echoed through the air.

’The apocalypse started days ago, and they still don’t know to keep quiet?’

Kevin Keane and Lynn Shelby exchanged a glance. They placed their hands on the fence, pushed off with their legs, and vaulted into the courtyard.

Swinging their machetes and daggers, the group cleaned out the small fry inside the courtyard in no time.

Jasmine Donovan clung to the windowsill, her eyes wide as saucers and her voice trembling.

"Th-they... they’re killing people!"

Dexter Wallace watched the group in the courtyard with a wary gaze, tightening his arm around the person beside him. It wasn’t until he saw the wandering zombies in the courtyard completely cleared out that he secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

He lifted his chin and yelled at the people below, "What are you doing in here?! This is our territory!"

Hearing this, Luna Dawson couldn’t help but laugh.

’He was cowering upstairs without making a peep while we were killing zombies, and now that the danger’s gone, he decides to act all high and mighty?’

Luna Dawson ignored him and went straight to open the car door. A cherubic little boy immediately jumped down. It was Hector Rhodes.

"Hector, the courtyard is safe now. Take your little bow and practice on the monsters outside. Remember to aim for their heads," Luna Dawson said, pinching the little boy’s cheek, her tone incredibly gentle.

Hector blinked his big, round eyes, looking around curiously. He tilted his head and asked, "Auntie, are we going to play ’beat the monsters’ every day from now on?"

"That’s right," Luna Dawson nodded with a smile. "Hector needs to practice hard to beat the monsters and protect everyone." As she spoke, she turned to Rhonda Dawson. "Sis, this is a good opportunity. You should practice with Hector, too."

Hector’s eyes lit up. He immediately raised his small bow, full of energy. "Okay! Mom and I will protect everyone together!"

Rhonda Dawson smiled gently. She picked up the compound bow beside her and aimed at a zombie wandering outside the courtyard. "Alright, then Mommy can’t lose to our Hector."

Evan Olson shot a cool glance at the two people upstairs, then walked over to Hector and patiently corrected his grip on the bow and his aiming angle.

Upstairs, Dexter Wallace and Jasmine Donovan were dumbfounded.

’Are these people for real?’

’They’re surrounded by dozens of zombies, yet they’re busy teaching a little kid how to use a bow?’

’And they’re completely ignoring us?’

Dexter Wallace was both furious and anxious. With his looks and family background, he had always been the center of attention. No one had ever dared to ignore him like this!

So he yelled even louder at the people below, "Hey! What the hell are you doing?! I said this is our territory, so get out!"

Luna Dawson couldn’t even be bothered to look at the man. ’Taking our help for granted.’

Kevin Keane, however, wasn’t going to put up with him. The guy was too damn noisy.

THWACK!

A military dagger flew from his hand, embedding itself right next to the man’s window frame. The hilt was still vibrating slightly.

"Any more noise, you die."

Kevin Keane’s voice was ice-cold and full of menace. The two people at the window froze.

Especially Dexter Wallace.

Staring at the dagger radiating killing intent less than ten centimeters from his face, he was struck by the terrifying realization that if he dared to provoke them again, he would actually die.

’He’d seen them with a woman and child and thought they’d be easy to deal with. He never imagined they’d attack at the slightest disagreement!’

Terrified by the dagger, Jasmine Donovan collapsed to the floor. A pained expression crossed Dexter Wallace’s face, and just as he was about to help her up, he heard urgent knocking at their door.

Jasmine Donovan grasped her boyfriend’s hand, pushed herself to her feet, and went to open the door.

Shane Shaw and the others, no longer bothering with the previous argument, hurried to the window to look down below.

For a moment, these lucky few who had escaped the zombies’ bites all found themselves swallowing nervously in shock.

More than ten zombie corpses lay scattered inside and outside the courtyard. And aside from a woman and a child who were in the middle of the action, the others were just watching.

Although the people below didn’t spare them a direct glance, they exuded an intense, oppressive aura, making the survivors afraid to even swallow too loudly.

Luna Dawson watched for a while. Seeing that the mother-son duo were getting the hang of it, she was about to get back in the car.

BANG!

BANG!

Several loud, dull thuds rang out.

Everyone whipped their heads toward the source of the sound.

A zombie with a swollen, glistening head was ramming into the courtyard fence from the side and rear.

Its head was smooth and bare, like a bluish-black balloon!

Luna Dawson’s eyes lit up!

’That strength... it’s a low-tier strength-type zombie!’

As it repeatedly slammed into the fence, the flesh on its forehead splattered everywhere, revealing a bare, blackish-red skull.

Its hands reached ceaselessly toward the "fresh meat" inside the courtyard as it struggled to squeeze through, even managing to bend the fence’s metal bars slightly outward.

"AH! AHH!"

"AHHH!"

"That monster is getting in!"

Instantly, the men and women crowded at the window erupted in screams.

"Shut up!"

Luna Dawson found the sound incredibly irritating. ’How in the world did these geniuses manage to survive this long?’

She walked closer to the zombie, studying it carefully.

Seeing the delicious meal less than half a meter away, the zombie clawed at the fence even more violently, its long nails scraping flakes of metal from the bars.

Luna Dawson activated her superpower, and a few Water Blades materialized in her hand. She attempted to strike the zombie’s eyes.

The small splashes of water were about as effective as eye drops; the zombie didn’t even blink.

Luna Dawson’s face fell, and she looked utterly frustrated.

Kevin Keane had been watching her from the side, and a flicker of amusement crossed his eyes at the sight.

A crackling ball of lightning quietly formed in his palm. Without a word, he stepped forward and pressed it against the zombie’s forehead.

BZZZT!

GURGLE!

The ball of lightning instantly enveloped the zombie’s entire head, sending up puffs of black smoke. Accompanied by a piercing sizzling sound, the zombie’s roars grew weaker and weaker. In moments, its head and hands drooped lifelessly, and it went completely still.

The corner of his mouth curved up. "Little boss, leave the dirty work to me."

Luna Dawson pouted. "Fine. It should have a Crystal Core. Pry it out and let’s have a look."

’Just you wait. My water attacks won’t be this weak forever!’

As he spoke, Kevin Keane used his knife to pry open the zombie’s skull. After rummaging around for a moment, he fished out a Crystal Core. It was about the size of a peanut, and after a quick rinse, it was a grayish-white color.

"So this is a Crystal Core. So that’s what it looks like."

Lynn Shelby pulled out a tissue, wiped the core clean, and held it up to the sunlight to get a better look.

Luna Dawson added, "That must be a low-tier, strength-type Aberrant Zombie."

The group on the third floor watched the entire scene, utterly dumbfounded. Their eyes lit up, especially at the moment they saw Luna Dawson and Kevin Keane use their superpowers.

Shane Shaw was the quickest to react. He immediately leaned on the windowsill and shouted down to them, "Hello! My name is Shane Shaw, and I’m a homeowner in this villa complex too. Can you help us clear out the zombies in this building?

There are several Aberrant Zombies on the first floor, and we can’t beat them! The basement has a lot of supplies. If you help us, you can take whatever you want!"

He said all this in one breath, unconsciously tightening his grip on Nancy Sullivan’s hand. His eyes were filled with desperation.

He had to protect his sister. They had been trapped here for days with no idea what was happening with their family, and he was burning with anxiety.

Luna Dawson, Kevin Keane, and the others exchanged a look. They glanced up at Shane Shaw on the third floor but didn’t respond immediately.
