Chapter 22: The Elevent Sanctuary

Ren as well as the others shimmered in whitish hue. Their bodies were emanating white light. Alas, their time to depart has come.

Their Captain saluted them and so, the founding team for the first raid numbered 300 plus has departed.

Their visions slowly faded and then white light were seen flashed before them. And then in a second, there was a pillar of light that descended into their bodies and they disappeared.

Ren felt ripples of sound that was felt within his body and then within a matter of a second, their vision was restored. The vibrations soon faded and they all breathed air. The feeling was otherworldly and their first.

Ren soon felt the cold stagnant air, he breathed but he smelled decay wafted in his nose. It was dark, but soon, their eyesight adjusted and he saw that he was inside a building. There were tattered banners. Halls were from a medieval age and it looked like a throne room. The braziers were not lit and the room felt cold.

The others were also inside and then Ren saw a throne with a skeleton sitting on it. The skeleton was small, coming from a young child but has a crown perching on his head.

Rian, as well as the other prodigies that he recognised were there. They all looked at each other and then finally, they spoke.

"Where are we?" Rian asked. Looking at the throne, she spoke, "Are we in a throne room?"

"Yes apparently," Kevin Manaborn replied to her.

Drako saw the exit of the room and then he opened the barricaded door.

"Ren!?" Ted and Sarah both shouted. Then soon immediately approached him.

"Where are we?" Asked Ted.

"We are inside the inner chamber of the castle or the Throne room." Ren replied.

"I see, what are we gonna do now?" Ted voiced out. His voice shaky.

"We survive, that’s all." Ren replied.

Others went to tap the guard armors and then some of them stumbled on the floor. Signifying that they were only skeleton inside left.

"Hmm, they are all dead." Fang noticed.

"Of course they’re dead!" Tooth added.

Rowan and Rolan then went to the exit and saw the other Awakeners. They were outside the castle grounds and were looking at them who descended from the castle gates.

"I am glad all of you are okay! I thought you are all lost." Said their Captain Arthur.

"Yeah, we are lost, but where were we?" Asked Rowan.

They all went outside but Ren went scan the room and there, he saw the diary of the boy on the throne. He flipped the pages and then took a glance at it.

It stated that in the past, there were rifts that appeared and monsters came forth from the said rifts. Humanity battled and they lost the war.

Another passage said, we retreated our forces from the front lines as we lost the Great Wall. It was our last defense to the monster raids.

We hidden our realm from the monsters and then they all soon found out our fortress. The monsters attacked and we lost numerous numbers.

We were holding our position here in the castle but we are running out of food. The monsters were a thousand, Abominations! And much worse, we started to see each other as food.

God forgive us!

Then soon, as the last one standing, my guards stood loyal to me and guarded me from the others. We held on in the inner chamber. The last bread was eaten by me, but it was not enough. I wanted to eat more.

Then the writings became more shaky and then the last message was written. There were some letters that were faded like it has been dropped with tears.

The last lines were, I’m sorry, Mom, Dad, I am coming home....

Ren then felt dread of the diary. He thought that this world has humans already in it. And they were helpless against monster hordes and demon tides.

He could just pray for their souls to rest.

Ren immediately gave the diary to Rian and she felt surprised. "What’s this?"

"The diary of the last ones here." Ren spoke.

Immediately, she read it and then a few moments, she sighed and then closed the journal.

Then she immediately stood up and went to give it to the Captain Arthur. He realised how grave their situation were. It was one of the last humans here in this world and they needed to discover more, of what has happened here.

If there were still humans left or none at all. They will discover more soon.

Then Arthur and his sister decided to occupy the castle and make it a stronghold. If the monsters had a hard time attacking this place then it will be their last bastion and to begin their first settlement. They will make this the eleventh sanctuary.

They first build the Hunters tent, then the Barracks, also Builder’s tent. They set up a cooking spit and then chopped meat and potatoes to the table.

They cooked the food and then distributed them to each and everyone. They settled on the cold ground and began to eat. Ren took his share and settled near the fire. He was reminiscing the memories of the diary. To add to that, he will find more soon enough when they will discover this world.

They needed to also acquire a map for this world.

He saw the room of the King and his library.

The books held there have knowledge that would be useful. And so, he glanced at the books and selected the ones that would be related to history.

He selected the History books first then he went to the pages to search for clues. He scanned the pages then he discovered that this world was attacked 100 years ago. According to some books, they were the last survivors. The Last Kingdom of Humanity.

The Empire has fallen and also the rest of the Kingdoms. He read every last book and Then he saw the map of the entire continent. It looked like the Empire on the North was the first one to fall and it has the greatest territory that they had. Next the Eldoria on the East and Summerset Kingdom on the West. On the south was their Kingdom, the Kingston Kingdom.

Ren gave them to their captain and told them the situation. They were deeply happy to have such knowledge that Ren contributed.

"So we are the last bastion of humanity? Here?" Arthur spoke to him.

Ren nodded then spoke, "We are, also, there is a chance that some humans were held captives. And were working as slaves in this world."

Ren remembered that he got into a Demon Castles and saw female and male humans in there. They were all held captives. As for their fates, they were saved but not their souls. Their traumas were too great and they needed time to get their senses together.

Ren then remembered that they had ran out of food before the winter in the past. And so, had to hunt in the cold snow. With that, he didn’t want to experience the same fate as of the past.

He went to ask Arthur for his thoughts. "Sire! With our daily food consumption, we will will run out of food by winter. I suggest to plant the spare potatoes or wheat seeds to the farm lands. We will plow the lands and then make farms out of it. Then there’s a chance we will survive the winter."

"Winter huh, I haven’t thought that far. Thanks Ren!" Arthur was busy in building the first buildings in sanctuary that he forgot that their food consumption was greater than before. He immediately went to command some groups to plow the fields and then make farms out of them.

And so, they began to plow the surrounding areas to plant seeds and crops. It was in early spring so they will still harvest before the Winter. It was wheat and potatoes. Then they all gathered wood and timbers. They began construction of the houses to settle down. With their numbers, they will have to make tents for now but in the long run, they needed to make houses for everyone.

With that, everything was settled. Ren then made another suggestion. "Sir! We should organise a defensive force and strike team so that all will be divided into their respective roles. In case of an small scale war or a skirmish."

"Hmm, that’s good idea! I will then make you my councillor. Your ideas might save us from trouble." Arthur said to him.

With that, Arthur was still young and inexperienced. Compared to Ren who was in his second life. He will be too young to be compared.

With that, they assembled all the awakeners in the grounds. There were murmurs as to what was the problem and that they all had to be gathered here.

"Everyone! We will assign you all to Defense team and Strike team! All line up!" Arthur shouted at them.
