Chapter 38: Chapter 38: I Really Don’t Want to Go Back

She watched Chen Mo, who showed not the slightest hint of impatience as he patiently and gently fed the tea soup to her, one spoonful at a time.

Su Yuqing couldn’t help but feel the urge to cry again.

The only other person who had ever been so patient with her was her grandmother, who would patiently feed her brown sugar water whenever she felt sick.

This kind of love felt too profound for her, something that could only exist in her most extravagant hopes.

With every sip she swallowed, she gradually stopped tasting the tea, her heart already brimming with a happiness sweeter than honey.

As the last spoonful went down, she felt the bloating pain in her stomach dissolve into a warm, fluffy cloud, leaving her body feeling light and comfortable.

"You look like you’re feeling much better," Chen Mo said with a warm smile.

"Mhm," Su Yuqing replied, giving Chen Mo a warm smile.

"That’s good." Relieved, Chen Mo got up and went to the kitchen. After rinsing out the teacup, he returned and sat down with Su Yuqing to watch some television.

Although neither of them spoke a word, Su Yuqing felt an immense warmth from his companionship.

Over an hour later, once he was sure Su Yuqing’s stomach had settled, Chen Mo got up to take a shower.

They had school tomorrow, so they needed to get to bed early.

After her shower, lying in bed, Su Yuqing felt warm all over.

That night, she dreamed again...

She dreamed of her maternal grandparents. Overcome with emotion, she rushed forward to embrace them, telling them all about her current life through happy tears.

Her grandparents simply stood there listening quietly, their faces holding kind, gentle smiles.

When they heard Su Yuqing mention a very, very kind boy who was taking care of her, their smiles grew even wider.

Suddenly, they looked toward the other side of the road, where a boy was standing.

"Grandpa, Grandma, that’s him. His name is Chen Mo."

Her grandparents didn’t say a word, only looked at Su Yuqing with questioning smiles. Blushing, Su Yuqing nodded and replied, "I like him."

Her grandparents were overjoyed. They looked up at Chen Mo again, then waved to Su Yuqing, gesturing for her to go to him.

Su Yuqing looked at her grandparents, feeling that as they waved, they were also growing more distant.

But their expressions were peaceful and relieved, as if they could finally let go of all their worries.

As her grandparents faded away, the boy from her dream appeared by her side and quietly took her hand.

He didn’t say anything either. He just looked at her with a calm, quiet expression, yet it filled Su Yuqing with an incredible sense of peace.

The figures of her grandparents suddenly reappeared in the sky. It seemed they opened their mouths to say something, but no sound came out.

Only Su Yuqing could hear them. Smiling through her tears, she waved at her grandparents in the sky. "Goodbye, Grandpa and Grandma. I promise I’ll be okay from now on! Thank you for always visiting my dreams to comfort me..."

Soon, everything fell silent again. Su Yuqing and the boy from her heart stood hand-in-hand in the middle of the road. The dreamscape was perfectly quiet, save for the rustling of the wind through a sea of flowers.

’This must be what they call ’peaceful years.’’

It was a simple dream, but it brought Su Yuqing a profound sense of security and peace.

Deep-seated psychological trauma couldn’t be healed so easily by a sudden burst of happiness over a couple of days.

But the wounds in her heart were, indeed, beginning to mend, little by little.

In the past, her dreams had been filled with nightmares.

But now, for two nights in a row, her dreams hadn’t been nightmares.

Yesterday’s dream was a memory of her childhood self with the boy in her heart. Today’s dream was a farewell to the support system she had once relied on most—one she could never have again in reality—but a new, even more reliable one had appeared in both her life and her dreams.

As her dreams changed, Su Yuqing could feel her own heart gradually changing as well.

The next morning, after waking up and getting ready, Chen Mo and Su Yuqing changed into their school uniforms.

Su Yuqing put on the same uniform she’d worn on the rainy day, which had since been washed. Chen Mo decided he would find time to go with her to her house to pick up some of her clothes.

He had a plan to get Su Yuqing to move into his house for good.

Chen Mo was up early making breakfast. When Su Yuqing opened the door to the guest room, she was greeted by the sight of him bustling about.

"Yuqing, why are you up so early?" Chen Mo asked, giving her a surprised look.

"You’re the one who’s up early! I’m the one who took the job as your housekeeper. Shouldn’t I be getting up to make my employer breakfast?" Su Yuqing joked with a smile.

It was clear her mood was gradually becoming more optimistic.

"Didn’t I order you to sleep in for the next few days? Focus on getting better first, then you can start working," Chen Mo said, concerned.

"I’m fine now. I feel like I have a hundred times more energy; I won’t get tired no matter what. Starting today, you can leave any housework to me," Su Yuqing said, smiling at Chen Mo.

"Is that so? Well then, don’t blame your employer for exploiting his worker. I’ll be giving you all the hard and tiring jobs from now on," Chen Mo teased, trying to scare her.

"I don’t mind," Su Yuqing replied fearlessly, her eyes crinkling into a smile.

Chen Mo gave her an indulgent smile and didn’t press the issue. He suddenly realized Su Yuqing seemed a bit different today. It wasn’t just her mood, but her whole state of mind.

He wasn’t sure why, but he could sense the subtle change within her.

After breakfast, Chen Mo and Su Yuqing walked to school side by side.

The house his parents had bought for him was only a ten-minute walk from school, so it wasn’t far.

It was an easy walk.

As the two of them, dressed in their uniforms, left the house, Chen Mo suddenly said, "Yuqing, we should find some time in the next day or two to go to your place and move your things here."

Su Yuqing clearly froze. A look of fear and apprehension crossed her face.

She was terrified that her mother’s disapproval would completely strip her of the chance to be with Chen Mo.

If that really happened, she didn’t know how she would even begin to fall apart.

She couldn’t bear to imagine it...

Suddenly, her small, limp hand was enveloped by a large, warm one that gently took hold of it.

Holding Su Yuqing’s left hand, Chen Mo smiled and said, "Don’t worry. You don’t have to worry about your family objecting. I have a way to make sure they can’t stop you."

While Chen Mo didn’t know the full details of Su Yuqing’s family situation, he knew the gist of it. It wasn’t the kind of environment that could easily be transformed into a warm, loving home where they showered her with affection.

’Since you can’t change the environment, then just get into a new one.’

Chen Mo wouldn’t let Su Yuqing fall back into the clutches of those two families, neither of which could be considered a reliable home for her.

"Really?" The fingertips of Su Yuqing’s right hand curled into the cuff of her uniform sleeve, the material bunching into fine wrinkles inside her palm.

She lowered her gaze, staring at a dandelion that had sprouted from a crack in the sidewalk. Its delicate, feathery seeds shivered in the morning breeze.

The warmth from Chen Mo’s palm spread up her wrist, but it couldn’t dispel the chill that shot down her spine.

"Chen Mo, I really, really don’t want to go back," she said, suddenly gripping his hand tightly. She looked up at him, her gaze filled with pure trust and a desperate plea.
