Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Crap, We’re Parents
Hearing Su Yuqing’s question, Chen Mo was once again lost in thought.
"No..." Chen Mo started, then suddenly changed his tune. "Yes, but we didn’t say goodbye in person."
"Then how did she say goodbye to you?" Su Yuqing asked, feigning curiosity.
Chen Mo glanced at her in surprise. It was rare for Su Yuqing to show such great interest in his past experiences.
Chen Mo recalled for a moment and said, "I only knew she was gone when I found a small note..."
"A note?"
"Yeah, a tattered little piece of paper. It looked like a little boy playing nearby had torn it up. When I found it, only half of it was left," Chen Mo recalled.
"I remember it only said, ’...I waited for you for a day, but you never came. I can only say goodbye in this letter. Thank you, Chen Mo...’ The whole note was torn, and only that middle part was left. Everything else was gone." Chen Mo couldn’t help but feel a little frustrated thinking about it.
It was supposed to be a nice goodbye letter, but I didn’t get to see any of it, just that one heartbreaking line.
"Back then, when I saw that note and thought about how she’d waited a whole day for me and I never showed up, I felt really guilty." As he reminisced, Chen Mo suddenly looked at Su Yuqing and said, "I don’t know why, but I have this feeling that you’re a lot like that little girl. Did you ever meet a little boy in a park when you were young?"
"Guess~" Su Yuqing chose not to answer.
After learning that Chen Mo remembered the little girl, but not her, Su Yuqing’s mood suddenly lifted. ’He’s always remembered me.’
In a rare act of rebellion, she didn’t give Chen Mo a direct answer.
She finally understood why Chen Mo had no reaction when he heard her name, Su Yuqing. During their time playing together, she never had a chance to tell him her name. She only wrote it down for him in the letter at the very end.
But unexpectedly, someone had torn it, so Chen Mo never saw it.
Naturally, she couldn’t blame Chen Mo for not reacting to her name when they met again.
"I’m guessing you’re not her," Chen Mo said with a smile.
"Why?" Su Yuqing looked at Chen Mo, surprised.
"Because you’re much prettier than she was." A triumphant smile spread across Chen Mo’s face as he looked at Su Yuqing again, and just as he’d expected, he saw her face flush red in an instant.
They didn’t discuss the little girl anymore. After breakfast, Chen Mo planned to take Su Yuqing out to buy a cell phone.
He couldn’t possibly keep Su Yuqing by his side 24/7. It was better to buy a phone so they could stay in touch.
...
Meanwhile, in a luxury hotel room thousands of miles away, a married couple was resting.
The wife was remarkably beautiful, and there was even a faint resemblance to Chen Mo in her eyes and brows.
It was already nighttime, and they were about to enjoy the evening when she saw some unexpected information.
"Oh my god! Honey, this is bad, this is really bad."
"What’s wrong? Why are you making such a fuss?"
The man, who was shaving, walked out of the bathroom. He bore a strong resemblance to Chen Mo, but he looked more mature and handsome.
"It looks like we’re really raising a son *and* a daughter now!"
The woman, in a frantic rush, held up her phone and jumped barefoot from the head of the bed to the foot to show her husband its contents.
"Look! Look what Momo bought with your credit card! Look, just look! Several sets of women’s clothes! This is bad, this is so bad. How did our boy pick up this... habit..."
The woman paced around anxiously.
"Didn’t you always want a daughter but didn’t want to go through another ten-month pregnancy? Well, now you’ve gotten your wish. We’ve got ourselves a grown-up daughter for free."
The man said with a chuckle as he shaved off the last bit of stubble.
"Chen Sanshui! I’m being serious with you, and you’re still in the mood to joke around?" The woman, furious, threw a soft pillow at him and cursed, "Your branch of the Chen Family might not care about carrying on the bloodline, but my branch of the Chen Family still does! If he were actually a girl, it wouldn’t make a difference, but now our son is turning into a daughter! It’s all over!"
The couple both had the surname Chen—one was named Chen Xi, the other Chen Miao—so naturally, they were both part of the Chen Family.
Chen Miao smiled and said, "Look at you, what’s the rush? Couldn’t our son just have gotten a girlfriend and bought these for her?"
"Look at this, and this! Underwear and lingerie! What high school boy with a new girlfriend buys her this stuff? And seven sets at once!" Chen Xi was so angry it was giving her a headache.
Chen Miao glanced at the shopping data and chuckled. "This has to be for a girlfriend. What boy who cross-dresses would buy such a large cup size?"
"That’s where you’re wrong," Chen Xi said, shooting Chen Miao a scornful look. "There’s something called a breast form. It’s totally possible to buy them this big. In fact, what normal high school girl is that well-endowed? If anything, this makes it even *less* likely that he has a girlfriend."
"Well, I stand corrected, then. But isn’t this shop owned by your friend? Just ask her who he bought them for," Chen Miao said, glancing at the details on the bill.
Only then did it click for Chen Xi. "Oh, right! How could I forget about that?"
She quickly made a call.
At first, she looked extremely anxious, but as the conversation went on, the corners of her mouth started to curve upwards uncontrollably.
By the time she hung up, her expression had changed to one of pure delight.
"Seeing how happy you are, I must have guessed right."
"Yuwei said the girl is gorgeous, has an amazing figure, and a super gentle voice. And it seems like she really likes our Momo.
She wasn’t going to wear the stuff at first, but she said she would because Momo liked it."
Chen Xi was so happy she started rubbing her hands together. "How did he find such a perfect daughter-in-law? We’ve hit the jackpot! The Chen family has really struck gold this time! Wow, our Momo is really something else!"
"Look at you, acting like a three-year-old all the time, changing expressions every few seconds. Next time something happens, try not to be in such a rush."
"You limited his credit card to only 10,000 yuan a month. Now that he suddenly has a girlfriend and his expenses are so high, what if it’s not enough for him?" Chen Xi said, a little worried.
"Giving him too much isn’t good either. He might develop bad habits. Besides, if too much money gets involved in a relationship, the feelings can turn sour. I think it might be better to lower his limit to 3,000 to test them a bit," Chen Miao said after some thought.
"No way! What if you scare off my wonderful daughter-in-law? I’ll hold you responsible!"
"I’m just worried that our Momo is too naive. Let me tell you, at this age, girls are much more mature than boys. Any girl who knows what she’s doing can easily wrap a boy around her little finger," Chen Miao said with the expression of someone speaking from experience.
He wasn’t wrong, but he was only half right. In reality, at an age where people blindly trust in love, whoever is more of a scoundrel, whoever understands PUA tactics better, is the one who will hold all the power in the relationship!
