Chapter 10: The Forest Rabbit King

The wind struck his face with incredible force.

Liam was falling from the sky.

The white sand he had passed through only seconds before disappeared above him like an upside-down waterfall, leaving behind that strange world of giant eyes and a purple sky.

But now he could only look downward.

Because Lydia was there.

His small green gelatinous body had spread across the forest floor.

Her body had expanded several meters, forming a huge cushioned surface between the trees.

Waiting for him.

"Lydia..."

He couldn’t help but worry.

The fall was too high.

Even with her new form, he didn’t know if she could really handle it.

Then, for a moment, his gaze shifted.

He saw it.

A campfire between the trees.

A small orange flame illuminating a clearing.

Could they be Hunters?

Someone else trapped inside the Dungeon?

Or maybe something completely different?

It was only for a second.

A message appeared in front of his eyes.

[Lydia: Liam.]

[Don’t take your eyes off me.]

He reacted immediately.

"I’m sorry."

He looked downward again.

And right at that moment, Lydia finished positioning herself.

Her body had taken the shape of a huge inflatable mattress.

Liam smiled nervously.

"You really did that..."

He didn’t have time to say anything else.

He crashed into her.

But instead of feeling pain...

He felt his entire body being caught by a soft and elastic surface.

The impact disappeared.

The force of the fall was completely distributed.

Liam bounced slightly on his wife’s body.

Then he ended up lying there, looking at the sky.

For several seconds, neither of them said anything.

Finally, Liam let out a relieved breath.

"Lydia, are you okay?"

The response came quickly.

[Lydia: I’m perfectly fine.]

[Lydia: I didn’t even feel anything.]

Her body began moving.

The huge gelatinous surface slowly returned to its original shape.

Until she became a small round slime again.

Liam sat up.

He looked at his wife.

"That was incredible."

Lydia moved slightly.

Then a message appeared.

[Lydia: Liam.]

[Lydia: Did we see the same thing?]

He immediately understood.

"I think so."

He looked toward the forest.

"I saw a campfire nearby. I think they might be the Hunters who entered this Dungeon."

Lydia remained still.

[Lydia: Darling...]

[Lydia: We don’t know what kind of beings live inside Dungeons.]

[Lydia: They could be monsters trying to deceive us.]

Liam opened his mouth.

But before he could answer...

A noise caught his attention.

The bushes behind them began moving.

Both of them went silent.

Liam stared at the vegetation.

Finally, she stepped forward.

[Lydia: Stay behind me.]

"Lydia..."

But she was already moving.

The bush moved one last time.

And then something came out.

A small white rabbit.

It was unusually fluffy.

Its ears were long.

And it carried strange fruits between its paws.

It sat calmly in front of them.

Eating.

Liam blinked.

Then he released the breath he had been holding.

"Lydia. I think we’re fine. It’s just a rabbit."

He looked at the small animal.

"It’s pretty cute."

The rabbit continued eating.

But Lydia didn’t move.

[Lydia: I don’t like it.]

Liam looked at her in confusion.

"What?"

[Lydia: That rabbit.]

[Lydia: Something is strange about it.]

She began moving forward slowly.

"Lydia, be careful."

The rabbit finished eating.

Then its eyes changed.

The black color of its pupils disappeared, becoming completely red.

Liam took a step backward.

"What...?"

The small rabbit disappeared.

It didn’t run.

It didn’t jump.

It simply launched itself toward him at incredible speed.

Liam reacted by instinct.

He grabbed a branch from the ground.

It wasn’t a weapon.

It wasn’t enough.

But it was the only thing he had.

He tried to hit it.

But before he could...

A green mass crossed through the air.

Lydia.

Her body stretched.

She completely covered the rabbit.

The small animal was trapped inside the slime.

Liam opened his eyes in surprise.

"Lydia, that was fast."

The rabbit began struggling inside the gelatinous body.

But with every passing second, its movements became weaker.

The green mass began absorbing it.

Slowly dissolving it.

Then several windows appeared.

[Achievement Unlocked.]

[Your Slime has defeated an Epic Monster.]

Liam froze.

An Epic Monster?

Another window appeared.

[Your Slime has consumed: Forest Rabbit King.]

[Your Slime has reached Level 26.]

A smile slowly appeared on his face.

"Wait..."

He looked at Lydia.

"That rabbit was a Rabbit King?"

The slime moved proudly.

"A king?"

Liam laughed.

"I thought it was just a normal forest animal."

He looked at the system again.

"Level twenty-six. You’re four levels away from evolving again."

The response came immediately.

[Lydia: I told you I would protect you, darling.]

Liam smiled.

"Thank you, dear. Seriously."

She didn’t answer.

But her body began moving toward the bushes.

[Lydia: Since we’re already here...]

[Lydia: Let’s try something.]

Liam raised an eyebrow.

"What?"

[Lydia: If that rabbit made me level up...]

[Lydia: Maybe these fruits have some kind of effect.]

And so it began.

Lydia started consuming everything she found.

Strange fruits.

Small plants.

Remains of the bushes.

Even some roots.

Every once in a while, a message appeared.

[Your Slime has consumed unknown material.]

[No effect.]

[Your Slime has consumed unripe fruit.]

But after several minutes...

The leveling stopped.

[Your Slime has reached Level 28.]

Liam looked at the windows.

"Well... you didn’t evolve."

But he smiled.

"At least you got some interesting things."

New messages appeared.

[Skill Obtained: Rabbit Jump.]

[Allows increasing jumping and bouncing power by using the body’s elasticity.]

[Skill Obtained: Danger Detection.]

[Allows identifying nearby threats and detecting hostility.]

[Skill Obtained: Acid.]

[Allows generating a corrosive substance capable of burning and melting certain materials.]

Liam read each skill.

"This is actually pretty useful."

He looked at Lydia.

"You didn’t evolve, but you learned several skills that could help us survive here."

The slime moved proudly.

[Lydia: I already told you.]

[Lydia: Today I feel like I can do anything. :)]

Liam started laughing.

"I can’t believe a slime is the one giving me confidence."

[Lydia: I’m your wife.]

"That’s true."

He stood up.

He looked toward the direction of the campfire.

"Alright. Then we need to find out who is there. If they’re Hunters, we need help. And if they’re enemies..."

Lydia moved beside him.

[Lydia: Then we’ll defeat them.]

Liam smiled.

"I trust you."

◇◆◇

The forest was much larger than it had looked from above.

The trees were enormous.

Some had roots that rose from the ground like walls.

Liam walked slowly.

Meanwhile, Lydia moved alongside him.

They still didn’t know where they were.

After several minutes, a window appeared in front of Liam.

[Skill Activated: Danger Detection.]

Liam stopped.

"Lydia."

The response came quickly.

[Lydia: I know.]

The slime had also stopped.

[Hostility detected.]

[Approximate distance: Several meters.]

The forest became completely silent.

Liam looked forward.

The campfire was close.

But now he knew something.

They weren’t approaching simple survivors.
