Chapter 11: Young Man in the Apocalypse ~ 3

If anything, the one thing that he could appreciate about his circumstances was that the system panel was appealing to look at.

It unfortunately rather fit the theme of him being a vampire.

However, his appreciation was brief because within moments, as he tried to read the actual information, he was remarkably confused.

It was written in a strange language he knew nothing about.

He couldn’t read anything of what it meant, but he could understand it? It was a strange thing.

And he was then struck to a pause as he began going through the information properly.

For several seconds, Dion only stared at the thing because there was far too much to process immediately.

Even if he didn’t know how the statuses of others should have been looking, there was no way that this should have been normal... right?

’Those messages from when I should have been dying... I remember them mentioning something about giving up bond priority? And then there was something about the Hanging Garden of Babylon.’

Dion very intimately knew about the Hanging Garden. After all, that was the private space that he had been playing in all this time, tending to it like a good pretend emperor.

’And now...’

His eyes flickered over to the Sobriquet: Emperor of the Hanging Garden.

At the same time, he thought of how his in-game character had been a vampire, and he had now become one.

’Seriously, how absurd!’ He almost felt as if he could laugh it off if he could have mustered one.

Then, his eyes brought themselves back onto perhaps the most important thing that was there for him right now.

’I need information before I can do anything.’

Authority: {Vassal Summoning}

Authority Description: {As Emperor of the Hanging Garden of Babylon, it is your imperial privilege to summon your vassals to your side.}

Seeing that description, his memory immediately brought him to the thought of Anastasia. She had brought him here, and she should have been only an NPC.

She had been one with some unique dialogue and extra animations, as well as that special event that he had to play for a long while to earn her.

But she had nevertheless only been an NPC. Yet the distant, lingering sensation of having drunk her blood told him that somehow, she was real.

’We’re the other ones not brought over because they had not been with me in the conference chamber when the servers had shut down?’

Regardless, she was the one that he was able to speak to, and if anyone could tell him what had happened to their world, and to him, it was her.

He didn’t really know how to activate the thing, so he only thought to gesture for it, calling for Anastasia in his mind, picturing the sight of her. Something like what he had done for calling his Chronicle.

It took him several seconds of effort such that he had to shut his eyes hard, and in that darkness, concentrate.

Then, he felt a pull drag from within him. It wasn’t from a singular, specific point in his body.

Almost like the way he had felt his hunger grow, and crawl through his body, rather than anything as unsettling as that had been, this sensation felt as if a stream of... something? An energy?

That energy was struggling to pull from within himself, though he could not feel its origins.

Suddenly, his eyes widened as he staggered backwards, his face grimacing at the sudden sharp pain snapping in his head.

It had felt like an abrupt slash through his brain, and it continued to grind within him as he drew for the energy.

And yet he did not stop. Having opened his eyes slightly through his grimace, he saw that because of what he had done, a bright red circle, mixed with black outlining bad begun staining itself on the ground in the space ahead of him.

’Come on! Hurry the hell up!’

Within the circle, strange runic symbols drew themselves so agonisingly slow he felt his body grow weaker rapidly as he forced even more of whatever dregs that he had been pulling from already, out.

Then the summoning circle, perhaps barely a quarter completed, began to shudder as he begged for snowflakes of energy, and it cracked apart.

Its figure so easily then scattered into glimmering dust in his room, and then into nothing.

And he coughed, falling to one knee. The sudden fall of his weight made licks of sweat that he hadn’t even known he had been releasing spatter onto the ground, and he pulled for air.

’It would have been nice to know that it is only a privilege if I can exercise it before I put myself through it only to fail!!’

Dion allowed his body to fall and lay sprawled over the floor, and for several ragged breaths he remained there, staring at the empty ceiling, his vision faintly swimming.

And he deliberately ignored the scratch of hunger through his veins and chest.

’Fine.’

Without being able to summon her for information yet, at least until he found a way to replenish the energy within himself to do so, he would have to get information another way.

’By now, I might be one lucky bastard to find even a single one still working... but I still have to try. I won’t know if I don’t.’

He groaned himself back up to his feet, struggling with the lack of strength in himself as he tried to hurry for the television remote, only to stumble and stagger to catch himself over the back of the couch, facing the television.

Thankfully, he had thrown the TV remote right over the cushions last night, so it was easy enough to grab.

With a press, the TV came on immediately, but there was not one channel that was working properly.

Everything was either static or a signal lost notice, with that programmed icon on the screen almost mocking him for even trying in the first place.

"Come on..."

Dion continued changing through every station until the same silence greeted him.

"Fuck!"

Abruptly, the chair scraped forwards, and he jolted to his feet, his expression taut. The remote flew through the air and shattered against the wall over the tv.

He stood with his hands clenched for several moments. Then they raised to brush hard against his face and through his hair.

’I have no choice but to go out there...’
