Chapter 17: Remnant of Red Light
Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Remnant of Red Light
’Insane.’
That was the only word Eiros could think of as he watched Erness’s back growing further away. The reason itself was not because of Erness’s behavior or anything like that. It was more toward Eiros feeling disturbed by just how important Erness’s existence actually was to this world.
How big of a change would she bring, and would it lead to a positive or negative outcome?
Why was he thinking like this? It was because of one simple transparent blue screen.
[Stigmata Profile]
Name: Wandering Spirit.
Activation: Lose what you call ’Home.’
Potential: ???? (Tier-???)
What was with that unreadable tier? And what was with that absurd activation condition?
What exactly had Erness gone through before she finally managed to awaken her Stigmata?
Just how far did that potential go?
Unfortunately, Eiros would not be getting those answers anytime soon, and he understood that well.
So, Eiros gave up for now. At least for now. He would think about this problem in the future.
"Is everyone listening?"
After that, the voice of a man—heavy and somewhat rough—was heard. The gazes of Eiros and all the first-year students shifted toward that man, who stood beneath an apple tree with thick leaves.
’Why do all Professors seem to really enjoy roasting the students while they take shelter comfortably?’
That thought crossed his mind briefly, but in the end, it simply vanished. After all, whatever the reason, Eiros did not care at all.
"First, you all must know that I am Richard Newson. I will be the professor leading this final evaluation before your early semester exams begin."
"As you all already know, the objective is simple. It will be a battle against low-level bosses—that is, monsters at the awakened tier. You will form teams of four, then allow anyone from the Others class to come and watch. You only need to explore the forest and kill as many monsters as you can."
Professor Richard took a breath. He looked at the students from the different classes, then added:
"Do not worry about being gravely injured and dying. There will be supervisors watching over you, monitoring your evaluation, and helping if you find yourselves in an emergency situation. Because of that, you may form your teams in ten minutes starting from now. If you are confident enough, you do not need to form a group—but you had better not disappoint us."
As soon as that announcement ended,
The field immediately became so noisy. Everyone began scattering to gather members and form teams they deemed worthy.
As a note, there were several different classes here. Ignoring the Others class, which was not participating directly, each of those classes was:
Combat class, support class, long-range attack class, and mixed class.
As their names suggested, all of those classes could probably be understood except for the mixed class. Essentially, the mixed class consisted of students who possessed fairly unique stigmata.
Like a sword that could be used in close range and long range, or someone who could perform reconnaissance and instant assassination at the same time.
That was the mixed class.
After watching the students running here and there to form their teams within ten minutes, Eiros finally spotted a figure he recognized and had been searching for all this time.
Standing with several students around him, it was the main protagonist, who had brown hair and dark blue pupils.
Alen Hazelia.
In the original story, Alen was indeed not the type of protagonist who was overpowered from the start. He was the type of protagonist who had progression before ultimately becoming overpowered.
Eiros could feel clearly just how extraordinary Alen’s potential was just by watching him use his Stigmata a few times.
That was why Eiros had the thought that perhaps he should copy the protagonist’s power. After all, who could match the power of the protagonist of the world itself?
With that thrilling feeling, Eiros immediately peeked at Alen’s Stigmata profile system.
[Stigmata Profile]
Name: Star Eater.
Activation: The one chosen by fate.
Potential: ???? [Tier-??]
"....."
Okay. Eiros apparently had to give up on this one. He had previously thought that Alen’s stigmata had awakened because of circumstances and situations, but who would have guessed it was because he was actually chosen by fate itself?
That fact made Eiros feel that this world had become even broader. When fate had decided to interfere and choose its own favorite, then what direction did this fate intend to aim for?
He could only pray that it was for the good of this world.
So, Eiros’s gaze next fell upon the other main characters around Alen. There were quite a few of them who had good potential, but their activation conditions were, on average, not something Eiros could fulfill.
That made him let out a long sigh.
Of course. It was impossible for him to just receive something so powerful for free, right?
In the end, was there not only one choice?
Eiros’s gaze shifted.
[Stigmata Profile]
Name: Remnant of Red Light.
Activation: Death.
Potential: Saint [Tier-??]
[Does host wish to imprint [Remnant of Red Light] and use it later?]
It was a stroke of luck that Eiros could postpone imprinting that stigmata onto his body. So, as soon as he had the chance, he wasted no time at all.
Without saying anything, the system moved through his will, which faintly radiated from his thoughts, and carried out his mental command.
[Imprinting [Remnant of Red Light] Successful.]
Eiros glanced at his uniform pocket. There, his pocket faintly revealed a dim reddish glow with small, pale red electric flickers.
He looked at it for a moment, then smiled.
"You Others class students, go and find the team you want to join."
At the same time, Professor Richard’s voice rang out. Eiros lifted his head, sweeping his gaze across the entire field.
’Who should I join?’
Honestly, it was a ridiculous question when, deep in his heart, Eiros already knew where he had to go.
Of course, his target was the protagonist’s group. He could not miss this opportunity to join and form a connection with that main character.
From here on, Eiros could finally realize that he had made quite a bit of progress.
"Hello. Can I join you guys?"
He was adapting well too.
