Chapter 3: Fate must be giving me a handy!
Chapter 3: Fate must be giving me a handy!
Kian and Jiao Yin walked into his residence.
It was a tiny, plain room with nothing but a single narrow bed and a small empty space beside it.
"Um... Immortals really live in places like this?" Jiao Yin asked, unable to hide her disappointment.
’Well, I wasn’t an immortal until recently,’ Kian thought. ’Now that I’m at Qi Building Stage 2, my residence could definitely change.’
Still, Kian had no intention of revealing his sudden growth and attracting attention. He wanted to grow stronger in secret for as long as possible before the sect or any powerful figures noticed him.
After all, who knew what kind of envy his new talent might provoke?
An innocent man becomes guilty the moment he possesses treasures.
"Is there no bathroom inside?" Jiao Yin asked, looking a little worried.
She was right. The living conditions here were quite poor. The previous Kian might have tolerated this minimal comfort, but the current him didn’t have to.
"I’ll go rent a better residence. Wait here for me," he said.
Kian picked up a small pouch filled with spirit stones—the life savings of his previous self—and stepped out of the room. He had two clear goals: find his next system target, and secure a much better place to stay.
Best thing about getting a new house was that he would have a protection array in it. With a protection array, not even a 7th Stage Qi Builder could harm him!
Kian made his way toward the busier parts of the sect, where the pathways widened and the number of disciples increased noticeably. Outer disciples in simple gray robes hurried along the stone paths, some carrying baskets of spirit treasures, others chatting in small groups.
The air was filled with simple conversations, occasional bursts of laughter, and the faint hum of cultivation techniques being practiced in the distance.
He scanned every face he passed, his eyes sharp and expectant. Yet no matter how hard he looked, the familiar blue [New Target Detected] message refused to appear. Not a single glowing name tag floated above anyone’s head, and he couldn’t see anyone’s Fortune value either.
’Strange... Why isn’t the system activating?’ he thought, a trace of confusion creeping in. ’It triggered so easily with Jiao Hu and his sister. Is there some kind of condition I’m missing?’
He continued walking deeper into the lively district, observing the flowing crowd around him, hoping the next person would finally light up the system.
Wondering how he could trigger the system, Kian entered the Residency Management Office.
Inside, a middle-aged man was tapping the table with a deep frown. Two girls — twins — stood in front of him.
Both were strikingly beautiful in their own way, with delicate, youthful features that could make any man’s heart skip a beat. The short-haired twin had a lively and feisty charm. Her jet-black hair was cut neatly at shoulder length, framing a heart-shaped face with bright, expressive eyes full of fiery spirit.
She had a slender figure that barely showed any curves.
Beside her stood her older twin, the long-haired beauty. Her silky black hair cascaded down her back like a smooth waterfall, reaching all the way to her waist. A small beauty mark sat perfectly beside her round, watery eyes, giving her an innocent yet alluring look.
Her figure was much more mature and graceful.
"You have to help us, Uncle Ren! Otherwise we’ll have to leave the sect and become mortal girls!" the long-haired girl pleaded.
The short-haired girl nodded frantically, worry written all over her face.
The middle-aged man rubbed his temples, still frowning.
That was when Kian walked in.
The room fell silent.
The middle-aged man and the two girls turned to stare at him.
"What do you need?" the man asked.
"I want to rent a better residence," Kian replied.
The middle-aged man’s eyes lit up. "Budget?"
"I have 200 low-grade spirit stones."
"Eh, you’re spending quite a lot. Young man, are you really using your life savings just for rent? I’d advise you to focus on cultivation instead of comfort until you become a true cultivator and reach Inner Disciple status."
Kian took a deep breath, genuinely thankful for the man’s honesty. A greedier person would never have given such good advice.
"Thank you for the recommendation, Senior, but I still want to use this money to rent a good residence for one year. I believe in myself to achieve something in that time."
"Good! Good! That’s the spirit!"
Without hesitation, the man snatched the pouch and began counting the stones.
"There’s actually a building available right now. These two girls just moved out of it," he said. "You can move in after they finish packing."
Kian’s expression turned awkward as the twin girls glared at him.
"Eh, I’d rather not... Is there another room?"
"Uncle Ren, please don’t do this to us!" the long-haired girl begged. "One of us will sense Qi soon. We’ll definitely become cultivators and pay you back!"
Uncle Ren shook his head helplessly. "I have no power here. If I could pay for your room myself, I would. Sadly... I hate women!"
Kian almost choked.
He asked softly, "May I know what’s going on?"
"Well, these two were abandoned by their big brother after he became a Core Disciple," Uncle Ren explained. "Now they’re barely scraping by with monthly rent while trying to stay in the sect. If one of them can reach Qi Building, they can remain. But... their talent is quite meager. And their rent is three months overdue, so I have to kick them out."
Kian blinked. "Can’t their big brother help them? If he’s a Core Disciple, he should be at least Stage 4 Qi Building. This amount of money should be nothing to him."
The girls visibly grew uncomfortable.
"That’s the funny part," Uncle Ren said. "Their brother walks the path of indifference or some nonsense, so he cut all ties with them the moment he became a Qi Builder — even though they helped him get there. Now he treats them like dust. Would you pay for dust?"
Kian coughed. "Truly shameless behavior."
"Right?" the short-haired girl burst out. "And we twins took care of him since he was a baby! He’s so ungrateful!"
"Jia, that’s enough!" the long-haired girl said calmly. "He has his path, and we have ours. And we don’t need strangers commenting on our family matters. Come on, if we have to leave, then we’ll leave."
"Yes, Sis! Who said we can’t become cultivators outside the sect?"
"Wait," Kian said. "What are your surnames?"
"Hua Jia and Hua Mia," the short-haired girl, Hua Jia, answered.
Kian’s eyes narrowed. "Wait... You are the sisters of Hua Shulong?"
Uncle Ren nodded. "Yeah, that’s their brother. The one who left them in the dust. You know him?"
Kian could hardly believe this twist of fate.
Hua Shulong... Oh, Hua Shulong!
Wasn’t that the exact Core Disciple who had murdered his previous self?
Kian looked at the twins again, his gaze now carrying a completely different meaning. "Don’t you have a mother as well? I heard Hua Shulong lives with his mother."
Hua Jia’s face twisted with rage. "That woman is our mother only by blood! She even tried to sell both of us to help Shulong cultivate faster, that bitch!"
"Jia, that’s enough!" the calmer Hua Mia shouted.
"Sorry, but it really irks me, Sis!" Hua Jia replied.
Right in front of Kian, a new system screen appeared.
[New Target Detected!]
[The Core Disciple of Hugan Sect, Hua Shulong. Do you want to target him?]
A wide smile spread across Kian’s face as he nodded to himself.
The screen flashed brightly, and a new progress bar appeared.
[New Target Enabled: Hua Shulong!]
[Steal his close people from him to steal his fortune.]
[Total number of Hua Shulong’s close people: 4]
Just as Kian was about to close the screen, another detailed panel popped up.
[Main Quest: Hua Shulong]

The girls were about to leave when Kian called out: "Wait, what do you guys think about..."
