Chapter 16: Rich Rich

As long as he could reliably find good investments like this, and secure himself with contracts, it wouldn’t be hard to make money.

Once he has enough such investments, he could lay on his bed all day and money would come to him no matter what. That’s how people could live on easy mode.

The only problem was that it was hard to find such investments. And he did not currently have money to invest.

Who knew whether even this investment would not get him scammed? And where would he find 10,000 Spirit Stones from?

Kian drank his tea as he pondered the question, but there was no sudden burst of inspiration or enlightenment.

Just as he was about to finish his tea, though, he had luck on another thing he had been worried about.

A man with a crooked nose walked into the restaurant, two men walking behind him.

Hua Mia warned softly: "Kian, that’s one of my brother’s funkies. He is a pretty strong cultivator, so don’t pick a fight with him, okay?"

"We might not want to make trouble, but they don’t seem to be on the same wavelength," he replief.

Just as the three flunkies reached Kian’s table, they came to a sudden stop.

"Yo," the man with the crooked nose said.

"Yo," Kian replied.

"Do you know how this is gonna go?" the man asked.

Kian nodded. "Of course. You guys are going to threaten me, I am not going to back down, things escalate into a fight, and I beat your asses blue and white. That’s cultivation novel cliche 101."

"What the hell are you on about?" the man with the crooked nose frowned. "I am the real owner of this restaurant, I came here to talk about your investment."

Kian’s eyes widened.

What the fuck? So surprising.

"Eh?" Hua Jia said. "So you are not here on my brother’s behalf?"

The man turned to Hua Jia, acting as if he had just seen her sitting there. "If it isn’t boss man’s sisters. I didn’t see you, I don’t know you. Did you see me?"

Hua Jia shook her head. "I definitely did not see you."

Kian couldn’t help but arc his lips in amusement. "It seems Hua Shulong does not have loyal subordinates."

"Young Master, you cannot slander me like that!" the crooked man sat down. "I am loyal to the bone. Just that I am blind in my right eye, so I couldn’t see his sisters. Anyway, it’s not like he asked me to do anything if I saw them."

"Anyway, what’s your name fellow daoist?" Kian questioned.

"This humble one is called Daoist Crooked Nose. I am a proud owner of many enterprises. And I pride myself in the fact that I make friends with every talented person in the sect."

Kian was just about to answer when he noticed something from the edge of his vision.

One of the two men following Daoist Crooked Nose was staring at them weird. There was some sort of thing inside the man’s eyes. Kian’s smile became rigid as the pupils shook and that thing stared right at him.

’An insect inside the man’s pupils?’

What was this?

A shiver went down Kian’s spine.

"Daoist Crooked Nose," suddenly, that person spoke.

Crooked Nose didn’t even turn around. "Do not interrupt me when I am talking to this Young Master here, I am..."

"Crooked Nose," the voice this time was colder. "Kill the man standing before you. Or be ready to lose your head the next time I see you."

The crooked-nosed man’s face drained of color as he turned, his earlier jovial confidence collapsing like a punctured lung.

The possessed subordinate stood motionless, his pupils vibrating with that tiny, glistening thing—a beetle maybe, or a worm, its carapace catching the lantern light like wet obsidian.

Crooked Nose’s hand went to his belt, where a short blade hung, but his fingers stopped halfway, trembling. "Young Master Shulan, this subordinate has heard your order."

Kian rose from his seat slowly, his chair scraping against the floorboards. He felt the weight of his hundred and fifty Qi Sparks churning beneath his skin, ready to surge at a thought.

"Daoist Crooked Nose," he said, his voice flat, "I suggest you step aside. That thing inside your man’s eye isn’t your friend."

Daoist Crooked Nose laughed eerily. "Your chance to talk is over the moment you offended the wrong person!"

Motherf$cker! What a 360!

"Mia, Jia," Crooked Nose said. "I don’t want to harm boss man’s sisters. Please stay aside."

Kian said: "Do what he says!"

He pushed with his telekinesis, making the girls subconsciously move away from the scene.

"Both of you, attack!" Crooked Nose ordered his subordinates.

No one moved.

He turned around. "Haven’t I told..."

He fell silent.

At some point, two knives had already pierced both of them in vital areas. One of them had been pierced in the eye, the other his throat.

Hiss.

At least a Stage 3 Qi Builder!

Just as Crooked Nose turned around, another knife flew straight through the air, hissing noiselessly as it reached inches away from the man’s nose.

The man’s hand moved quickly, blocking the knife with another knide.

Kian’s hand shot out before his mind caught up, a burst of Qi rippling from his palm to grab his own knife mid-flight.

The blade halted a hair’s breadth from Crooked Nose’s throat, trembling against the invisible pressure, then clattered to the floorboards as Kian released his hold.

Crooked Nose smiled miserably.

"Truly strong! I’ve misjudged you, young friend."

On Crooked Nose’s back, one could see 3 knives. They had moved from his back, piercing him through three of his vital areas, one having pierced his heart through his ribs.

The man trembled for a moment before falling limp.

The possessed corpse’s eye twitched, the beetle-thing pulsating as a voice that wasn’t the man’s own crawled through the air.

"It seems you’ve been hiding your strength. No wonder you didn’t die after I killed you."

The man’s hand reached for his own throat, fingers curling like he meant to tear it open, but it simply removed the knife stuck to it.

Kian just watched.

"Why are you butting in my problems?"

Its eyes moved to Hua Mia and Hua Jia.

Both of the girls shivered.

Kian said coldly: "What might you mean?"

The corpse turned to look back at him calmly. "How much for you to leave me alone?"

"You can’t buy me."

"10,000 stones. Leave the girls here, go back on your own."

Hua Mia and Hua Jia stared at the scene in just plain shock.

Kian just looked coldly at the corpse. "I told you, I cannot be bought."

"100,000 spirit stones."

Dead drop silence settled inside the crime scene.
