Falling For My Alpha Stepsister (GL)
Chapter 13: First Date (2)

Chapter 13: First Date (2)

A boy and two girls walked to our table.

"Hey, Sabrina," Angel smiled and shook hands with the blonde girl.

Her face lit up instantly, that sharp, annoying expression she usually carried around completely melting away as she leaned forward to grasp the girl’s hand with a warm, familiar energy.

"Ángel Morningstar... I can’t believe this is you. How long has it been? Six years or seven?" the boy said. He happened to be blonde like Sabrina.

He had the exact same bright eyes and tall, athletic build, his voice carrying a booming, confident tone that drew a few quiet looks from the neighboring tables.

"Carlos, how are you?" Angel said, shaking his hand.

Then Carlos looked at me with a whistle-like expression, then looked at Angel, and I saw him wink at her.

"Es tu novia, Ángel?"1 Sabrina said, looking at me, then at Angel. Her hand rested on Angel’s shoulder.

"Solo es una pendeja fantasma a la que quiero darle una lección,1" Angel replied.

She didn’t even blink as the foreign words rolled off her tongue, her husky voice dropping into a casual, quick rhythm that sounded entirely natural to her lips.

And I knew they were speaking Spanish, but I had no clue what they were talking about.

If I had taken that Spanish class during high school, then I would have easily understood.

I bit the inside of my cheek, kicking myself mentally for choosing the easy elective classes back then instead of learning something that would actually help me right now.

"Ah... Pero es muy bonita," 1Sabrina said.

She tilted her head, her bright eyes locking back onto my face with a soft, analyzing look that made me want to pull my cardigan up over my chin.

"Nah, está fea1," Angel said.

She waved her hand dismissively, taking a slow sip of her water container without a single care in the world, her voice completely flat and calm.

Then Carlos laughed before saying,

"Cada vez que dices que una chica está fea, termina siendo exactamente tu tipo."1

He nudged his sister’s arm, his smirk widening into a huge grin as he pointed a finger down at the table surface between us.

I was not liking the way the blondes were staring at me, so I kicked Angel underneath the table, giving her a look that said I didn’t understand.

"Oh, let me introduce you to my high school friends," Angel said, adjusting her legs. She didn’t look okay with the way I had kicked her.

"This is April, my... ehmmm... my mother’s wife’s daughter. And April, meet the Alpha twins, Sabrina and Carlos Martínez. We went to the same high school," Angel introduced us.

"Hi," I said, waving my hand shyly. "And who is she?" I asked, looking at the other girl who hadn’t said anything.

"Oh, meet Teresa, our date for tonight," Sabrina introduced the girl, and Teresa just smiled.

I was a bit lost for a moment.

My brain completely stalled on the singular word, my fork hovering an inch above my steak as I tried to process the geometry of their relationship.

Our date?

The phrase repeated in my head, a sudden wave of confusion making me look between the three of them with wide, blinking eyes behind my glasses.

Did that mean they were...

"They are twins. They always share," Angel said.

Her voice broke through my thoughts with a lazy, knowing tone, her crimson eyes tracking the rapid movement of my pupils with pure amusement.

I had a feeling she was reading my mind or my facial expressions.

"Oh... that’s nice. Happy harem sharing," I said nervously, not really knowing how to react.

"Qué pena que ya tengan una cita. Iba a darle su número a una amiga que acabo de conocer... Supongo que tendré que decirle que ya están ocupados,"1 Angel said to the blondes.

"No, no, no. Ella es solo por esta noche... y quizás también mañana. ¡Preséntanosla!" 1Carlos said, he took a quick step closer to the table, his hands coming up in a frantic, pleading gesture that made his sister let out a short, rolling laugh.

"Can you guys speak English, please?" I said. I did not like not knowing what I was hearing.

I was getting the itch that they were talking about me.

"Alright, I’ll do as you say. Are you guys in town or just on vacation?" Angel asked.

She shifted smoothly back into English, her husky voice instantly cooling down the frantic energy Carlos was throwing across the dining table.

"Something like that. We have a business deal here, and it will take quite a long time. We are going to be seeing each other every day now," Sabrina said.

"That is going to be cool... We will talk later and discuss our free time."

"Yeahhh... Ángel, you are the best," Carlos said.

He reached down, giving Angel’s shoulder a firm, parting squeeze before turning back toward the quiet brunette who was waiting patiently by his side.

"Okay, let’s leave them, Carlos. I’m sure the Morningstars are quite busy."

And finally, they left.

I definitely thought they were going to stay forever.

"So... let’s get back to the date. Dessert is next, right?" Angel said, checking the dessert menu.

"You speak Spanish?" I asked.

I leaned my elbows on the table, staring at her across the linen with a fresh wave of curiosity breaking through my irritation.

"Yes. My vacations are always in Mexico, and my friends are also from Mexico, so... do you speak Spanish?" she asked, giving me a look.

She peeked over the top of the menu card, her dark red pupils tracking the tight line of my lips with that same old smug superiority.

"No, I don’t."

"Good... so, dessert..."

She dropped the topic instantly, focusing back on the printout lines of cakes and tarts while the waiter came back to clear our dinner plates away.

After having our first date, we went back home.

Then, from the back of her car, she brought out a bouquet of roses.

"What is this?" I asked.

I stayed frozen on the passenger side walkway, my backpack clutched tightly in front of my stomach as I stared at the sudden offering in her hands.

"The guy in the picture gave the girl red roses and a box of chocolates, and I think it was before the date..." she said, then started searching for the chocolates. "Where is the chocolate? I know I put it here... Coco, what are you doing here?"

I looked into the back seat to see Terror, the orange cat.

Her mouth said it all.

A dark, thick smudge was smeared across her nose and whiskers, her eyes blinking up at us with a slow, completely guilty expression.

Chocolate.

The empty cardboard box was torn to absolute pieces beneath her paws, the scent of cocoa filling the small space of the luxury vehicle.

"Are cats supposed to be eating chocolate?" I asked, then looked at Angel’s face.

The arrogant, smug mask completely vanished from Angel’s face, her skin turning an absolute, pale white under the dim garage bulb as she stared down at the orange cat.

Without overthinking it, we drove Terror straight to the vet.

"Is she your girlfriend, Angel?""No, no, no. She's only with me for tonight... and maybe tomorrow too. Introduce us to her!""Nah, she's ugly.""She's just a stupid ghost I want to teach a lesson.""Every time you say a girl is ugly, she ends up being exactly your type.""What a shame you already have a date. I was going to give your number to a friend I just met... I guess I'll have to tell her you're already taken.""Ah... But she's really pretty."
