Chapter 2: Tribe Leader In Heat

Ermin never joined her down the hill, and Tera had had to settle with the fact that they might have un-banished him.

She had still waited just in case Ermin was fashionably late to his own exile. But when nothing happened, she turned to face the wasteland stretching before her.

What offense had she committed in her modern life to get this punishment?

’DING!’

Tera flinched at the blue screen that popped up in her face.

[Welcome, Host!]

[You have successfully transmigrated into the body of Tera of the Jackdaw tribe!]

[Let’s see what we’re working with]

[Host Stats]

[Strength: 3/100]

[Charm: 0/100]

[Influence: -12/100]

[Oof...]

[( ˘•ω•˘ )]

[How pitiful!]

[Construction: 0/100 (Locked. Requires first build)]

[Mates: 1 (unwilling)]

Tera was stunned. She hadn’t just transmigrated, but had a system now, too?

She wasn’t sure she liked these odds. The systems she had read about in web stories were more problematic than helpful.

[Host has been granted the Tribal Development System!]

[Host’s Primary Goal: Rebuild beast civilization from the ashes and advance it beyond its former glory!]

Tera stared at the screen. "Eh?"

[Build structures! Form alliances! Bond with beastmen! And raise your tribe through tiers!]

Tera was so confused.

"Do you mean the whole world?"

[Yes!]

Tera wanted to laugh. Even if that was her speciality, what materials was she supposed to even take from this place to use to build? And it wasn’t just one tribe but the whole world?

"That is not possible." She eventually laughed. "What if I refuse?"

[Upon refusal, every corrupted monster on this planet will be summoned to Host’s location to be tortured and slaughtered]

[( ˊᵕˋ )]

Tera’s laughter died, and she even stopped breathing. Her mouth hung open as she stared at the screen.

[Are we ready to conquer this world?!]

[Accept / Reject]

Tears dripped down Tera’s face as she accepted it. She didn’t have any other choice.

Two hours, and a new task later, Tera had developed several strong opinions.

First: walking barefoot through a post-apocalyptic wasteland was terrible.

Second: the strips of hide that passed for clothing in this world were not designed for long-distance travel. They were designed for standing around looking primitive, and they were failing at even that.

Third: she would commit unspeakable acts for a granola bar.

The sun was already setting, and the shadows were growing longer to the extent that every tree, bush, and rock, looked like a potential monster.

She was going to die out here!

Tera shortly found a tiny stream running through a rocky channel, and when the system had confirmed it was clean, she drank and rinsed her body as much as she could until the dirt and smell were gone.

She looked around. The task had left her on her own with a mini task to search for the nearest beast clan, but there were no convenient signs reading "BEAST CLAN THIS WAY."

Which direction was she even going?

She turned in a slow circle and noticed how every direction looked identical.

She was lost.

Her wilderness skills were useless in this different environment too.

A branch snapped somewhere to her left and Tera bolted in the opposite direction.

It might have been anything, but she wasn’t about to slow down and conduct a wildlife survey.

Which was why she didn’t see the hole.

It was covered with a loose lattice of branches and dead leaves. Her foot punched straight through, and the ground disappeared beneath her.

’You’ve got to be kidding me!’

She landed on her back and just laid there, staring up at the circle of the grey sky as she tried to remember how to breathe.

When Tera realised how deep she had dropped, she immediately stood up and started clawing at the wall, but the packed earth just crumbled under her fingers.

"No!"

[Ding!]

[Task completed! Nearest beast clan located!]

[10 nipples have been granted to Host!]

’For fuck’s sake, what sort of currency was this?!’

Tera then did a double take at the screen.

When exactly had she even entered a beast clan?

She stopped clawing at the walls to process what she was seeing when she suddenly heard heavy breathing.

Tera turned slowly.

The hole wasn’t just a pit. It opened into a larger space behind her. It was a crude underground den, wider than she’d realized, and extending back into the earth. And she could make out a figure.

[For a shiftless fox, you have twenty-twenty vision!]

[ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧ ]

Tera was too preoccupied with what she was seeing to even pay attention to the system.

Another man was inside this pit with her, and from what she could see, he was huge. She could make out dark hair and a lot of muscle. The beast man was drenched in sweat, with thick ropes binding his wrists and ankles to wooden stakes hammered into the ground.

The restraints had clearly been repaired and reinforced many times over, and they still looked like they were about to give out. Two of the stakes were already leaning, and the ropes looked pitifully weak.

If anything, it looked more like he was holding himself back more than the restraints were.

’Holy shit...’

[Nothing about one’s shit is holy...]

[(·•᷄_•᷅ )]

Tera shot a glare at the system before turning her eyes back to the beast man.

If he was restrained, did that not mean she was in a dangerous situation?

His eyes were closed, and every few seconds, his whole body would strain against the bindings, and a rough, guttural sound would tear out of his throat.

[Hmm...]

[( ◕▿◕ )]

[It seems Host has found herself in the den of the tribe leader experiencing an active heat cycle]

"Heat cycle?!"

Tera instantly slapped her hands to her mouth, horrified at the noise she had just made.

The tribe leader stirred, and Tera froze to the spot when he slowly sat up.

[New Task!]

[Soothe the tribe leader’s heat!]

Eh?

[Rewards: Tribe Leader’s Favor +20%, Charm +5, Influence +2, Construction stat unlock]

’What the fuck does construction have to do with this freaking task?!’

[Penalty: Compulsive foolishness for 7 days]

[Can mistakenly lead to death]

Ehhhhh?!

[Warning: No female has survived this beastman’s heat cycle]

[Two have attempted. Both are deceased]

[Accept / Reject]

[Task needs to be completed to be able to unlock the construction stat]

Tera stared at the screen. Then she stared at the enormous man chained to the floor.

His eyes slowly opened and locked directly on her.

’System... define soothe...’

[( ◕▿◕ )]

[Are you dumb?]
