Chapter 27: [27] Boss Monster (1)

The moment Soo-jin saw the giant silhouette of the monster, she let out a tired breath and slowly shook her head.

How were they supposed to fight against something like that?

Unlike the younger worms, this one even had eyes, meaning it did not have to rely on vibrations to attack.

Even if she was in her best form, they would have struggled to make it out alive, but now, she was nursing an injury and completely exhausted.

She glanced at her teammates, watching as they all stared at the monster with varying levels of shock. They must have figured it out by now, the challenge in front of them was insurmountable.

Her eyes drifted to Ark, and the moment she saw him, her eyes widened slightly, and a chuckle escaped her parched lips.

While the others were frozen in place, Ark had summoned his weapons and looked ready to pounce on the monster at any second.

He almost seemed excited even.

’Is he mad?’ Maybe he was, but Soo-jin agreed with his approach, if anyone wanted to survive this, then they needed to be mad to some degree.

"I’ll take point, the rest of you—"

"No." Ark suddenly interrupted her.

"What?"

"How are you going to lead the charge in that state? Are you trying to throw your life away?" Ark asked, sounding genuinely offended.

Soo-jin still needed a little more time to recover. If she pushed herself, her wound would reopen, and without any potions left, they would be put in a difficult situation.

"We still have the main boss fight to look to, what would happen if you are unable to fight then?"

"I know..." Soo-jin replied calmly. She had thought about it already, if they lost the main boss fight, then it wouldn’t even matter if they survived now, they would all die.

But if she did nothing now, they would die as well.

"If I don’t fight it head on, then who will?"

Ark glanced at her from over his shoulder, and although his face was as expressionless as a rock, she could tell that he was likely smiling.

"Me?"

Soo-jin nearly stumbled back. And here she was thinking he had some sort of strategy set up.

"You are a mage..." when it came to physical combat, mages were at a terrible disadvantage. Most of them were glass cannons, only able to output heavy damage from a distance.

"Shouldn’t Isabella..."

"Isabella will guard you while I fight, and no, I don’t plan on doing it alone. You can both use long range attacks, so you will be able to support me in the battle while being safe."

Ark was sure it would be impossible to convince the moody vampire to leave her side after all, especially since Soo-jin had almost died.

"Besides I am out of mana, I will be useless in my traditional role."

It was a white lie, he had already recovered a little mana, but it could only power one spell at most.

Soo-jin did not seem convinced, but before she could voice out her complaint, the gigantic monster came down upon them with livid rage.

"It’s fast!" Ark hissed, barely managing to jump out of the way as it came crashing down into the floor.

Bang!

The sound of the rain did little to cloud the booming sound that erupted as rocks shattered like glass.

The monster raised its head from the rubble just as a shadow appeared in its vision. Ark had fully extended his arm, bringing his hand down with as much force as he could muster.

"You should think a little before doing stupid things!"

Squelch!

He plunged his dagger right into the monster’s eye and twisted it, black blood gushing out of the wound.

Skreeeeee!

The monster screamed and retreated back, but Ark raced after it, feeling the rain wash over his body.

It was like a racoon chasing after a lion, the very sight of it was beyond insolent. He should have quietly accepted his fate, died in the quickest way possible, and yet he dared bare his fangs against a boss monster?

The Grave Keeper raised its tail and brought it down repeatedly, attempting to crush Ark to dust, but he dodged every single one of the strikes, moving in ways that defied human logic.

Just as the tail exploded on the ground next to him, Ark put his strength into his leg and leaped into the air, right at the beast.

The monster hissed, a sound wave rolling into the air, but Ark ignored it.

He rotated his body, curling the dagger and rope around himself, before swinging it like a whip.

Swish!

The dagger struck true, digging deep into the monster’s sensor. The Grave Keeper recoiled as though it had been stung with poison, as blood poured from the wound.

But Ark was not done with it, he was only starting.

He tugged on the rope, using it as leverage to land on the monster’s large body, then dark laughter escaped his teeth.

"Alright, let’s get started..." he muttered, summoning his staff from his inventory, just before he brought it down—

"He... he is fast!" Olivia suddenly blurted out, unable to believe what was right before her eyes. Did he invest all his stats into agility?

No, it didn’t add up. Ark was also displaying an unreasonable amount of strength!

"How many... how many stats do skeletons get per level up?" She asked Soo-jin.

"Seven..." she answered plainly, her eyes never leaving the battle.

"Seven." Olivia repeated the word, as though repeating it would make it make more sense to her.

She was a harpy, a rare race, which meant she got fifteen points every level up. That was more than two times his stats.

How then was this possible? How was Ark faster than her?!

"Is that guy really a mage?" Isabella asked in a reserved tone, watching him suspiciously.

"This isn’t the time to be asking questions." Soo-jin snapped. "We are still in the middle of a battle."

She could understand them... It was not like Ark was very exceptional at the moment.

There were people in their class that were still faster than him, her included. It was his growth rate that was beyond reason.

In the fight with the goblins, Soo-jin had seen him a few times, and back then, although he had good form, he was sluggish. She would have run circles around him with ease.

It had barely been a few hours since then, how had he gotten so much stronger in such a short span of time? Growth like that was illogical. Soo-jin could barely control the smile that crept into her lips.

Still, despite his astonishing growth, it seemed the Grave Keeper was still a little too much for him...
