Chapter 25: [25] This Will Make A Great Pillow

After sealing the wound at her back, Ark poured the half bottle of healing potion on it, watching it fizzle as it seeped into her skin. Then he turned to her abdomen, and let out a breath.

Although he was not the one receiving the treatment, he could only imagine how it felt to have such a wound burned along with your skin...

Worst of all, the healing potion which was meant to help, became more painful depending on the severity of the injury...

He gave her a few seconds to rest before asking, "Are you ready?"

Soo-jin nodded.

"Okay."

He poured half of another bottle of potion into the abdomen-opening of the wound, and the moment it slipped in, steam began to evaporate from the wound as muscles slowly reconnected.

It was supposed to have hurt like hell, maybe not as much as the fire, but enough to make most awakened scream out their lungs.

But Soo-jin kept a stoic face, not even a flicker of emotion appearing in her eyes. If Ark did not hear the gurgling sounds coming from her abdomen, then he would have assumed the potion was not working.

When he was satisfied with how much the wound had healed, Ark summoned fire with his last embers of mana.

Because he was not using the complete spell, he had been able to sustain the flames, but now his tank was running empty.

The moment Soo-jin saw the fire, her face tightened again and she almost shifted back on reflex.

Ark met her gaze. "Are you ready?"

It took a moment before she nodded, and then once again, Ark pressed his flaming hand on the beautiful skin of her abdomen, marring it with fire.

After using their last bottle of healing potion, Soo-jin was finally in the best state they could bring her to.

Ark stared at her stomach and sighed. Her skin had been smooth, without any blemish whatsoever. But now there was a large scar marring it, the scar he had given her...

"What are you worried about? It—it will heal after the tutorial anyways..."

Soo-jin laughed. It was still a far cry from her snarky tone, but she was more lively than a few minutes ago.

She was right, Players could heal whatever injury they had, no matter the severity at the hero’s statue which could be found in all major cities. As long as the injury happened in Eden.

While Olivia and Bella were pushing the bodies over the mountain, Ark and Soo-jin sat opposite each other in awkward silence.

Their eyes met and Ark immediately looked away, but Soo-jin kept her gaze on him, he could feel her eyes boring into his smooth skull.

Soo-jin smiled and shifted closer. Ark was about to scooch back when she wrapped her fluffy tails around him, locking him in place.

He would have gulped if he could. Although he was a superstar in his last life, the one area he had never gained experience in was women.

Well, except if gacha women counted...

"Women will bring you down, son, be wary of them." Those were his grandfather’s last words before his passing.

That and, "Wipe my hard drive and dump my computer in a lake."

And so he followed his advice, the first part at least. He had put his games above everyone, especially them, and as a result he never had any opportunity to date. It was only natural that he would feel a little weird being this close to Soo-jin.

Ark stared at her perfect face, her white hair which gleamed like snow, and her energetic crimson eyes that bore into his own.

"Amazing..." He breathed out, unable to keep it in any longer.

She rested her chin on her hand and smiled. "What? Are you captivated by my beauty?" She snickered.

She no longer seemed like the person who was at death’s door just a few seconds ago. But she wouldn’t be from a legacy family if this was enough to shake her...

"No..." Ark shook his head. "It’s your tail... it’s very soft."

He was honestly surprised by how fluffy they were, not even his sister’s plushies could compare.

Soo-jin blinked.

Silence...

Then she suddenly burst into laughter. "What did you expect, this is premium kitsune fur, you wouldn’t find anything like this elsewhere."

Her eyes twinkled with something dangerous, and her voice dropped to a sensual tone that tickled his mind.

"If you’re a good boy, I’ll let you use it as a pillow whenever you want~"

Ark’s eyes widened. ’Wait, that isn’t a bad offer!’

"Uhum..." he suddenly cleared his throat.

Soo-jin had ulterior motives, he would be a fool to trust this sly fox. ’Focus, Ark, I need you to focus...’

Or he would blink and find himself playing chess with the guild master at Fable.

"Th,the moon. It’s really big today isn’t it?"

"Hmm?" Soo-jin stared up. "I guess it is?"

Crisis averted!

After a few seconds, she turned her attention back to him. "You have something on your mind? Ask anything, I’ll answer you honestly..."

’It looks like she has regained some of her mana...’ Ark mused. She had been spot on, it was a little unnerving how sometimes it felt as though she could read his mind.

While he treated her wounds, Soo-Jin had repeatedly called her mother, but it was not in the way a child would call their parent.

She was afraid, frightened beyond reason.

Why would a child be afraid of their own parent? Just what did she go through in the past?

"You helped me, it’s only right that I return the favour." Soo-jin continued.

"Is that really right though? If I didn’t save Nolan, he wouldn’t have been there to stab you. In a way, I am partly to blame."

Ark could not deny that fact. He saved Nolan because it seemed like the right thing to do at the time, but it ended up being a mistake that nearly cost Soo-jin her life.

Nolan could not see past his nose, he could not bear the guilt of his brother’s death, so he needed someone to put all his rage on.

He was a liability from the very beginning.

Soo-jin smiled as she watched him. With her free tail, she unhooked the dagger that was strapped to his waist and flicked it into the air.

The dagger spun around, before she caught it, the blade reflecting the light.

"Does a blacksmith blame himself because the dagger he made for self defence... was used for mass murder?"

"We all make mistakes, Ark, but saving Nolan was not one of them. He just ended up being a shitty person, that is all."

Ark mulled over her words then nodded. "Sometimes, your maturity is off putting."

"Hehe, I get that a lot. So? What is your question?"

The question Ark had was incredibly nosy, but his curiosity was eating at him, and she had offered...

"What happened when you were younger? Why are you afraid of fire—"

Before he could finish his question, Soo-jin waved her hand in the air while laughing. "No, no, I can’t answer that question."

Ark frowned. "You said you would answer anything..."

"Yes, anything but that."

"Uhun..."

What did he expect from a Kitsune? They were born scammers.

Soo-Jin raised a finger. "Why don’t I answer the question you asked earlier instead? Hell mode difficulty."

She had offered to tell him about it before at the cost of a favour, but back then, Ark was not too keen on owing her one, there was no telling what she would have asked for.

But now that there was nothing on the line, Ark gladly accepted her offer...
