Chapter 33: THE SLAUGHTER OF THE THREE PILLARS

Chapter 33: Chapter 33: THE SLAUGHTER OF THE THREE PILLARS

The night sky above Sector 2 shattered as two forces collided with apocalyptic force. The blinding crimson mana of Director Marcus and the heavy, mechanical hum of twenty artificial S-Rank enforcers slammed directly into the oncoming tide of two hundred abyssal shadow soldiers.

BOOM!

The ground buckled. Concrete roads ripped open like wet paper, sending jagged slabs of asphalt raining down upon the surrounding abandoned buildings. Shockwaves tore through the boulevard, shattering every remaining streetlamp and plunging the perimeter into a chaotic nightmare lit only by muzzle flashes and violent mana flares.

"Fire! Keep firing!" Marcus screamed, his voice raw as he plunged his twin daggers deep into the chest of an advancing Shadow Knight.

Red kinetic energy detonated inside the shadow entity, blowing its torso apart into wisps of dark smoke. But before Marcus could even draw a breath of relief, the black miasma swirled together, instantly reconstructing the Shadow Knight’s body in less than a second. The entity struck back, its dark steel blade grazing Marcus’s shoulder and drawing blood.

"They aren’t dying!" a operator yelled over the blaring artillery. "Their regenerations are instant! The mana consumption isn’t draining the caster!"

"Target the caster!" Director Harold roared from the rear line.

Harold slammed his tungsten baton into the cracked pavement, summoning a colossal, blue-lit magical circle beneath his feet. The ground groaned as three massive spears of concentrated, high-density mana materialized above him, aimed directly at Renan, who stood thirty paces away amidst the chaotic battlefield, untouched by the fray.

"High-Tier Spell: Spear of the Sovereign!" Harold shouted, thrusting his arm forward.

The three mana spears shot through the air at supersonic speeds, tearing through the atmosphere with a deafening sonic boom. They were designed to pierce through S-Rank Dragon hides—a spell that had earned Harold his seat as Executive Director.

Renan didn’t even turn his head.

Thrum.

Before the spell could travel ten feet, the towering form of Shadow Gregory—the newly extracted Rank-A Director—stepped smoothly into the path of the attack. Shadow Gregory raised his massive, black-iron barrier shield.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The three spears detonated against the dark shield in a blinding explosion of blue light and dust. When the smoke cleared, Shadow Gregory stood completely unmoved, his dark armor absorbing the residual mana of his former colleague’s signature attack.

Harold stumbled back, his eyes wide with horrified disbelief. "My... my ultimate spell... blocked by Gregory’s shadow...?"

"You built your strength on rigid formulas and borrowed authority, Harold," Renan’s voice cut through the explosions, appearing suddenly behind the Director.

Harold’s heart dropped into his stomach. He spun around, swinging his heavy baton with all his remaining strength. "Get away from me!"

Renan caught the heavy tungsten baton with his bare, unarmored right hand. The impact sent a small shockwave through the air, but Renan’s arm didn’t bend a single millimeter. He looked down at Harold with golden eyes that held neither malice nor mercy—only the cold judgment of an absolute sovereign.

With a simple twist of his wrist, Renan snapped the reinforced tungsten baton in half like a wooden stick. Before Harold could scream, Renan’s left hand shot forward, thrusting his fingers directly into Harold’s chest cavity, piercing through his anti-mana suit, flesh, and bone with terrifying ease.

Pfft.

Harold coughed up a wave of crimson blood, his hands feebly clutching Renan’s arm. "You... what are you...?"

"I am the consequence of your greed," Renan whispered in his ear.

Renan withdrew his hand, letting Harold’s lifeless body collapse to the blood-stained pavement. Instantly, a dark, viscous pool of miasma erupted beneath the fallen Director, wrapping around his corpse like a cocoon until a new, majestic Shadow Commander stood upright, bowing low before Renan.

"HAROLD!" Director Marcus screamed from across the battlefield.

Looking around, Marcus realized the horrific reality of his situation. The twenty artificial S-Rank enforcers had been completely disassembled, their mechanical limbs torn apart by the fanatical Shadow Army. Over a hundred fresh shadow soldiers were now encircling him, locking off every possible route of escape.

Marcus was covered in his own blood, his daggers chipped and trembling in his hands. He was the last human standing in Sector 2.

"Monster..." Marcus gasped, backing away until his heels hit the tread of a burning armored transport. "You think you can defeat the Association? You think you can crush Guild Apex?! Guild Master Richard will rip you apart! The National Pillars will hunt you down!"

Renan slowly walked through the circle of shadow soldiers, stepping into the dim light of the burning vehicle. His black coat fluttered as his aura expanded, pressing down on Marcus with the weight of a falling mountain.

"Let them come," Renan said softly, raising his hand toward Marcus. "They will only serve to swell the ranks of my legion."

"Die!" Marcus shrieked, throwing his body forward in a suicidal final strike.

Before his blade could move an inch, four Shadow Knights grabbed Marcus’s arms and legs, pinning him rigidly to the burning vehicle. Renan stepped forward, his hand descending like the blade of a guillotine.

CRACK.

Ten minutes later, absolute silence returned to Sector 2.

The fires from the burning military transports cast long, eerie shadows across the ruined boulevard. Standing in the center of the destruction, Renan stood atop a pile of shattered heavy artillery, looking down at the two hundred and twenty Shadow Knights assembled before him in flawless, disciplined military rows.

Boss Victor slowly stepped out from the shadow of an alleyway, his cigar long extinguished. He looked around at the leveled boulevard, the destroyed Association fleet, and the two hundred shadow soldiers standing in silent obedience.

"Sector 2 and Sector 3 are officially yours, Renan," Victor said, his voice trembling slightly despite his best efforts to stay calm. "The Association’s regional strike force has been wiped off the map. Richard has no eyes left under the city."

Renan looked up toward the glittering towers of Sector 1, where the massive, fifty-story headquarters of Guild Apex stood illuminated against the night sky.

"The underground is secured, Victor," Renan said, his golden eyes burning with a terrifying light. "Inform our networks. Tomorrow, we march on Sector 1... and take Richard’s head."
