Chapter 32: My future Princess
Gideon appeared right in front of her, his sudden proximity making her pulse quicken. He reached out, his fingers brushing a few stray locks of hair away from her face before he lowered himself, kneeling on the floor before her.
Confused by the sudden gesture, Adeline looked down at him as he took her hands in his.
"I forgot to ask this earlier, but has your back improved? Will you allow me to check the wounds myself?" he asked, his gaze searching hers for permission.
"I don’t feel any pain anymore, so I think it has healed," Adeline answered
"I still would like to see it," Gideon affirmed, his thumb grazing her knuckles. "I don’t want scars to be left behind. Not because I would care, but because I know it will hurt you to see your skin marked that way."
Adeline pursed her lips and gave a small, hesitant nod. She shifted on the bed, turning her back to him, and cautiously lifted the hem of the oversized T-shirt just high enough to reveal the area where the wounds had been.
Gideon stared, a jolt of genuine shock coursing through him. Her skin was flawless, perfectly smooth and pale, without a single mark, discoloration, or ridge to suggest she had ever been hit.
’So, Morticia was right,’ he thought, his golden eyes narrowing. ’Adeline has something hidden deep within her. No ordinary omega wolf heals like this.’
In the silence, Adeline bit her bottom lip, the back of her neck prickling with self-consciousness. When he didn’t speak for several seconds, her heart sank.
"Does my back look too bad?" she asked innocently. She knew that men of his status prized perfection, and the thought of being "ruined" in his eyes made her stomach knot.
"No scars were left behind. Your back is... exceptionally clean," Gideon stated, his voice unreadable.
Relieved, she lowered the T-shirt and turned back to face him. She expected him to look pleased, but instead, his expression was intense, almost piercing.
"What are you?" he asked bluntly.
"Huh? What do you mean?" She stared at him, completely confused by the weight of his question.
"The way you were whipped... it should have left deep, permanent ridges across your skin. But there is nothing," Gideon said. "A broken Omega has almost no healing ability. What was your mother, Adeline? Your regenerative pace is beyond exceptional."
Gideon’s eyes never left hers, pinning her with a gaze that demanded an answer she didn’t have. She had lived her life under the assumption that this was simply the way of their kind.
"Don’t all wolves heal quickly?" she inquired, her brow furrowing in genuine confusion.
"No, they don’t. Omegas have the weakest healing thresholds of all. It can take weeks for them to recover from what an Alpha brushes off in an hour," Gideon explained, his frown deepening as he realized she was truly unaware. "Did you really not know that much?"
"I knew they were slower, but I thought... I don’t know," she murmured, her mind racing. "But I do have a scar on my leg. It’s been there since I was very young and it hasn’t faded at all in years."
"Show me," Gideon commanded, his curiosity piqued by the contradiction.
Adeline lifted the hem of the loose trousers on her right leg. Gideon leaned in, his eyes narrowing as he inspected the mark in the middle of her calf.
"Were you beaten to get this?" he asked, his voice hardening with a protective edge.
"I don’t remember. But Dad once told me it’s been there ever since I fell when I was two," she answered softly. "I asked him about it when I was five."
"You were abused badly, weren’t you?" His eyes met hers again, burning with a cold, quiet fury. "They won’t be left in peace. I promise you that." He gently lowered the fabric of her trousers, covering her leg once more.
"My mother was an Omega from a respected family," Adeline replied, trying to bridge the gap in his curiosity. "Dad never told me much about her. But she was famous in her time. He used to say every man wanted her back in their college days."
"I see. We will search for more information about your mother once we return from the Western borders," Gideon decided, his mind already cataloging the mystery.
"Do you think I’m what the High Priestess mentioned?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly. "That I... bring power?"
"Morticia is never wrong," Gideon replied, his voice steady and filled with a strange kind of certainty. "If she has seen something in you, then it is there, whether you can feel it yet or not."
"If I’m truly powerful enough, I’ll be glad to help and support you. I mean... I won’t be a burden to you then," Adeline muttered, her gaze dropping to her lap for a second.
"You’re not a burden to me even now," Gideon countered firmly. He reached out and lightly flicked the bridge of her nose, a surprisingly playful gesture that broke the heavy tension. "Where do you get such thoughts in your head? You are my future Princess. Start acting like one and stop worrying about being a weight I have to carry."
He then stood up, his towering frame casting a long shadow across the bed. "Go and have a warm bath. I’ll send the clothes for you."
With that, he stepped out of the room, leaving her alone in the silence. Adeline lingered for a moment, her fingers gently caressing the bridge of her nose where he had flicked her. A small, involuntary smile tugged at her lips.
"I didn’t know I would ever meet a caring man," she whispered to herself. A sudden flush of heat rushed to her cheeks, and she quickly scrambled off the bed and ran into the washroom.
Only seconds later, the door clicked open again. Gideon had realized he’d left his phone on the nightstand. He stepped back into the room, finding it empty except for the sound of running water behind the bathroom door.
He picked up the device, scrolled through his contacts, and dialed Lila, the attendant he had personally assigned to Adeline.
"Bring the traveling attire for Adeline I selected to my residence immediately," he ordered, his voice returning to its authoritative Alpha tone. "And ensure the rest of her luggage is secured in the private jet for the Western borders. We leave within the hour."
