Chapter 25: YOU ARE DISGUSTED WITH ME
Even before Ace notified Zade about Sybill, whom Seara mentioned as the only friend she had, Zade had already learned about her.
Occasionally, Seara would mention her name, saying things like, ’I wish Sybill were here,’ or ’Sybill will not like it if I do this.’
Zade tried to approach the subject as gently as possible, and when Ace didn’t heed his warning and interrogated Seara anyway, she shut down for a few days. She didn’t even talk, and whenever Ace was around, she would pull the blanket over her head to hide herself.
Actually, Zade had told Zephyr to ask about Sybill before Ace made the phone call. For these reasons, only now did Zade ask Seara about Sybill directly.
"Sybill?" Seara blinked her eyes and then lowered her head again. "She is my friend. She was trapped in the cell... Should I ask him to save her?" Seara mumbled the question.
"Do you want to save her?" Zade had his hand on top of Seara’s head.
"Can you...?" Hearing that, Seara lifted her head slightly to look at Zade. Her eyes filled with expectation.
"Anything for you, Seara." Zade leaned over and kissed her head briefly. His lips didn’t even touch her because, technically, Zade was kissing Seara’s hoodie. It was getting hard to resist her.
On the other hand, Seara blinked her eyes, but she didn’t recoil from the gesture.
"Can you tell me about her?" Zade’s voice was gentle. The tone that Zade only used whenever he talked to her.
Even Ace was hearing Zade speak in that manner for the first time. The royal beta hadn’t expected such tenderness from him before; he never thought Zade was capable of expressing himself like that.
"Sybill is my friend..." Seara said after a long moment. She fiddled with her fingers. She had gained more weight, but she was still a few kilograms short of the ideal weight.
"How can you be friends with her?" Zade turned his body slightly as he listened to what Seara was telling him.
"She... came to me one night... she was nice. She talked to me, and I talked to her..."
Seara kept doing that. Most of the time, she mumbled the words as if she were talking to herself, but sometimes she realized Zade was also there, and then she spoke a little bit louder.
However, Seara didn’t tell the story within the timeline. She would tell Zade about Sybill based on what she remembered.
"...He took her."
"What? What do you mean?" Zade’s grip on Seara’s wrist tightened, and she grimaced. Realizing that, Zade loosened his grip and softened his voice. "Can you tell me more about what happened to Sybill?"
Zade was enraged when he heard that there were those who constantly came into the cell.
"I know they have bad intentions, but I can’t fight them... they are very strong. They held me down, and I screamed and screamed. I screamed some more to tell them to stop, but they didn’t listen."
It took everything in Zade not to lash out when he heard that. Two shifters held Seara down... The intention was very obvious: what vile thing they wanted to do to her.
Zade let go of Seara’s hand. He was afraid that he would break her hand in his rage because he couldn’t control himself. His expression darkened, and murderous intent exuded from him.
Zephyr was still in the Blackthorne Pack, and he needed to know who those two warriors were. Death would be a mercy for the two of them...
However, Seara took Zade’s reaction differently. She felt nervous when Zade let go of her hand, and her heart skipped a beat when she saw his expression.
"They didn’t do anything to me..." Seara explained hastily; she grabbed Zade’s arm, and the words jumbled out of her mouth. "They didn’t do anything to me... Sybill... Sybill came, and they found her more beautiful, and then they went to her... and then they held her down... They..." Seara shook her head, as if she wanted to get rid of the memories in her head. "When they were done, Sybill was sick... I didn’t see her for a few days."
"What do you mean you didn’t see her for a few days?"
"Sometimes, she left... and I slept. I took a long nap, and I can sleep for a whole day. I skip my count, and then I stop counting..."
Seara was not focused on the story. She was telling Zade something else now. She forgot the story of Sybill, but in the middle of a different story, she would jump back to Sybill.
It was difficult to determine which event occurred first among the various stories that Seara shared with him.
"Those two warriors would come for a few days... sometimes only one, sometimes two... They liked Sybill, so they only talked to her. They gave her good food because they said she was being good."
Seara then spoke about something else, such as how the cell would flood when it was raining and how she couldn’t sleep because her bed was drenched, before she went back to Sybill’s story.
"Sybill then told me to cover myself in dirt. I have to be dirty so they will not come again. Sybill also covered herself with dirt, and when those two warriors came, they didn’t touch her as they did on the other nights, because Sybill was smelly. I am smelly... They didn’t want her anymore."
Seara lifted her head slightly; she was afraid to look at Zade, but she did it anyway when Zade didn’t say anything. She was scared when she asked him.
"They didn’t touch me... They touched Sybill, not me... Poor Sybill..." Her voice was slightly trembling as she fiddled with her fingers. Seara glanced at Zade’s hands that balled into tight fists. "Are you... disgusted with me?"
Zade didn’t know how to swallow his rage; he wanted to taste blood.
"You are disgusted with me..." Seara concluded with a broken voice.
