Chapter 14: THE KILLING INTENT
Seara was scared; she had not seen anyone for a long time, aside from Sybill, but now, right before her eyes, there was a very intimidating man who towered above her.
He was... huge.
His arm alone was bigger than her thigh, and his stretched-out hand looked like it could crush her bone with a simple squeeze.
Seeing him, Seara’s mind filled with the warning of danger. He could kill her, and there wouldn’t be any fight left in her to escape death.
However, when Seara lifted her head and looked into his eyes, she was stunned by how blue they were.
After so many years of living in this cell, the only bright color that she knew was the sky out there from the small window, but even so, the blue color of his eyes was brighter than that.
They were beautifully captivating, especially when thunder rumbled and lightning illuminated the gloomy cell, and his eyes reflected the brightness.
It had been so long since Seara last saw something beautiful. They were thrilling, but at the same time, terrifying.
Who was this person? What did he want? Why was he here?
Seara was scared. He was very intimidating, and his presence alone was suffocating. He looked angry, though. But what had she done wrong?
With her eyes, she watched as his hand drew closer to her; he had a comfortable and warm jacket in his hand.
"I will not hurt you," he said.
However, Seara didn’t believe that. A long time ago, when someone came... they hurt her. And now, what did he want?
He draped the jacket over her body and tried to grab her arm, but the movement made Seara scramble away.
She needed to get away from him.
And that was when she saw that the door of her cell was open. It had never been opened before. It was always locked, and now it was open.
Seara threw the jacket at him as her survival instinct kicked in and she rushed toward the cell door. She ran as fast as she could, but her body was so weak that it felt as if she were dragging a dead weight—herself.
Once she was out of the cell, she saw a narrow corridor with empty cells on her left and right sides. She walked through it, barefoot, trying to move as fast as she could.
However, the man with a pair of beautiful blue eyes managed to catch up with her in only a few strides.
Once again, he draped the jacket over Seara’s shoulder and then stood in front of her. He was so tall that the tip of Seara’s head was only at the height of his shoulders.
He was wearing a long-sleeved black shirt and black pants. The color made him look as if he could blend well with the gloomy cell.
Seara stepped back, feeling scared of him, but at the same time was captivated by his eyes, which made her stumble, and she almost fell on her butt if it were not for the man who grabbed her by her wrist and pulled her back to steady her.
But something happened when their skin touched each other. There was a ticklish feeling that spread through her body, as if she were being electrocuted.
The sensation was not painful, and Seara assumed this man felt it, too, because he widened his eyes and froze momentarily; his eyes were fixed on hers.
The way he was staring at her was overwhelming; she couldn’t take it because it felt as if he were staring straight into her soul and stripping her naked with his gaze.
Seara clutched the jacket around her body and stepped back, but suddenly his hands shot forward, and she flinched, closing her eyes, since the first thought that came to her mind was that he was going to hit her.
However, instead of the pain, Seara felt a gentle touch when the man put his palms against her cheeks, cupping her face.
"Open your eyes."
His voice sounded like a grunt, like a beast growling at their prey; it was a command that Seara couldn’t deny.
She opened her eyes slowly and stared straight into his.
For a long moment she didn’t know what he was going to do. Would he gouge her eyes out? Would he despise the way she looked at him?
But then, in that quiet cell, in the dimly lit corridor, she heard him mutter under his breath.
"Beautiful."
He said the word in such a way that it made Seara shudder. She moved her head and tried to get away from him, but he didn’t let her go.
"What’s your name?" he asked.
What was her name? She couldn’t remember. What did people in the past use to call her?
"Seara," Sybill said. She was standing in front of one of the empty cells behind the intimidating man, and she recited the word.
"Seara..." He said the name, feeling the words roll on his tongue. His touch was gentle despite how scary he was.
And then when he looked down, he caught the sight of her barefoot. There was a furrow between his brows.
In the next moment, he lowered himself.
The king of the Lycans knelt in front of the malnourished woman whom he had just met a few minutes before, as he took off his shoes and put them on hers.
The shoes were too big since they were not her size, but they were sufficient to cover her feet.
Zade’s eyes darkened when he saw there were so many untreated small wounds and scratches on her feet. Some had festered.
The killing intent exuded from him, which made Seara try to get away from him out of instinct, but Zade couldn’t help it.
Every wound on her body, every bruise on her skin... someone had to pay for that. And they would pay for it with blood.
"Don’t run." Zade tightened his grip on her ankle as he put his shoes on her feet.
