Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Gun Devil Flesh

"Wait. It probably isn’t dead yet..."

Kotone Asaba gave a warning and directly lifted Pochita, preparing to go finish off the Carp Devil.

"It isn’t dead yet?"

Ryoko Yamada stopped in her tracks and looked back at the Carp Devil. It did not even have a head anymore. How could it still be alive?

Ouchihara could not help freezing for a moment too. He also could not see any signs that the Devil was still alive.

"All of you, be careful."

Although Aki Hayakawa could not tell either, he trusted what Kotone said, so he specifically warned Ouchihara and Ryoko Yamada.

Just then, before Aki had even finished speaking, the spike-like "fins" on the Carp Devil’s back suddenly shot out, firing toward them at an incredible speed, so fast that they were difficult to see with the naked eye.

Fortunately, Kotone possessed the Mangekyo Sharingan, and those spikes looked as if they had slowed down before his eyes.

His right hand held Pochita, and he touched Aki beside him with his right elbow, while pressing his left hand onto Ouchihara’s shoulder. Then he immediately used spatial teleportation, bringing Pochita, Aki, and Ouchihara with him as he teleported to Ryoko Yamada’s side, touching her heel with the tip of his right foot.

"Don’t move!"

Right before those spikes pierced through them, Kotone activated his "phasing" state in time and applied it to the three people he was touching as well.

Ouchihara and Ryoko Yamada watched the dense barrage of spikes pass through their bodies with their own eyes, and both of them were frightened stiff. Fortunately, Kotone’s warning from the previous moment had taken effect, and they did not move around recklessly. Otherwise, without the protection of the "phasing" state, they probably would have been turned into pincushions.

Even Aki, who was the calmest of them all, could not help breaking out in cold sweat when he saw a spike over a meter long pass through his eye. His eye instinctively closed as well.

Only after that wave of attacks ended did Kotone move away from the three of them.

"Protect yourselves. I’ll deal with that thing."

Ouchihara and Ryoko Yamada were experienced private Devil Hunters after all, so they quickly recovered from the shock just now.

Ouchihara immediately slammed his fists together, seemingly using his Devil power.

The next moment, his body grew much larger, and the texture of his skin looked much harder as well. A huge black turtle shell appeared in his hand, and he held it up in front of Aki and Ryoko Yamada.

Aki also did not act rashly. He knew very well that the power of his Fox Devil was not very useful against the Carp Devil, while the Curse Devil’s power was not something he could casually use.

He needed to judge the situation. If Kotone was no match for the Carp Devil and none of them were capable of escaping, then even if it cost him a large amount of his lifespan, he would have to use the Curse Devil.

At the same time, some of the blood spraying from the Carp Devil’s severed neck flowed back into the Carp Devil’s head and reformed into a new head.

"Huh? You actually weren’t hit by my dorsal fins?"

The Carp Devil immediately let out a surprised voice. It had just been playing dead to catch these Devil Hunters off guard and kill them, but it had not expected these people to come out completely unharmed.

At that moment, Kotone pulled Pochita’s tail. Pochita had already transformed into a chainsaw weapon, and Kotone teleported in front of the Carp Devil with Pochita in hand.

The Carp Devil’s newly restored head was split open by Kotone again. Just like when he dealt with the Crab Devil last time, he sawed straight down from the Carp Devil’s head all the way to its tail, splitting its entire body in two.

"Uh...?"

Because Kotone’s movements were almost completely impossible to predict, the Carp Devil still had not reacted to what had happened.

Unless one could notice the brief instant of spatial distortion formed when the spatial portal opened, this kind of spatial teleportation ability was impossible to predict.

However, the Carp Devil was not going to die so easily. Just like before, its body was restoring itself on its own, while part of the blood that had flowed out was also flowing back by itself.

Kotone narrowed his eyes slightly, forming a guess in his heart.

Carp themselves were fish with relatively tenacious vitality, and the Carp Devil clearly possessed that same trait. Moreover, this was probably a Carp Devil that had eaten a piece of the Gun Devil’s flesh, and that trait would have been further strengthened by the Gun Devil’s flesh.

Because of that, the Carp Devil possessed extremely powerful vitality. As long as it still had enough blood inside its body, even if its head was cut off or it was split in two, it could still recover on its own.

Kotone also noticed that not all the blood the Carp Devil lost could flow back. Only part of it could return. So as long as he drained enough blood from the Carp Devil, he should be able to kill it completely.

Next, he prepared to keep dismembering the Carp Devil and bleed this thing dry.

At a time like this, Pochita’s role became extremely important. If Kotone relied solely on Kamui’s ability, dealing with this Carp Devil would actually be pretty troublesome.

Even if he transferred the Carp Devil into the Kamui dimension, it would be useless. In fact, it would only create trouble for him, because although the Carp Devil would be unable to leave the Kamui dimension, it would still be able to move. If Kotone used his "phasing" ability while being attacked by someone, the Carp Devil could injure him from inside the Kamui dimension.

The principle behind "phasing" was that when his body was touched or attacked, the body part being touched was automatically transferred into the Kamui dimension. It looked as if his body had turned intangible, but in reality, the touched part of his body had been moved into the Kamui dimension. Because of that, the Carp Devil inside the Kamui dimension would be able to hurt him.

As for Susanoo, although he could use it, the consumption was too great. With his current body, he probably could not maintain it for long, and using it to deal with the Carp Devil would also be overkill.

Kotone grabbed Pochita and charged at the Carp Devil again. The Carp Devil retaliated with its "fins," and Kotone immediately activated his "phasing" state. All of the spikes passed straight through his body.

The instant the final spike passed through him, his "phasing" state had already been turned off. He used the chainsaw in his hand to saw through the Carp Devil’s body again before it had fully recovered.

He gave the Carp Devil no chance to catch its breath, continuously dismembering its body as if he were using a kitchen knife to chop vegetables, cutting it into piece after piece.

"Aaaaaaah!!"

"It hurts, it hurts! It hurts so much, aaaaaah...!!"

Of course, the Carp Devil’s head had already been split into multiple pieces as well, but it still had not completely died. The head, even divided into pieces, could still let out miserable screams.

Not long after, the Carp Devil’s blood was completely drained, and it could no longer restore itself.

With that, the Carp Devil was completely dead. More accurately, it had returned to Hell.

Among the Carp Devil’s dismembered remains, Kotone discovered a small bullet.

The sticky bullet still had vein-like blood vessels wrapped around it. Those blood vessels were even still squirming, as if they were alive.

Looking at the bullet, Kotone felt a little disgusted. He recognized it as a piece of the Gun Devil’s flesh.
