Chapter 26: Talent
Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Talent
It was because of these venomous mosquitoes that Moira Lynch insisted on wearing long sleeves and pants even at home. The AC was on anyway, so it wasn’t particularly hot dressed like that. But getting bitten by one of those mosquitoes would be a world of hurt.
Inside her space, Moira Lynch didn’t stay idle. She began to inspect the growth of her various crops and animals.
The vegetables were growing well and would be ready for harvest in a few more days. Grains like wheat still needed a little more time.
Passing by the orchard, she picked an apple, casually wiped it on her clothes, and started eating.
The crops in her space didn’t require pesticides; they were completely organic and healthy.
The livestock had all grown a size larger and were in excellent condition. Each one was fat and robust. They were also very friendly toward Moira, not afraid of her in the slightest.
Additionally, the animals she had collected from the interstellar world were also adapting well. The abandoned, unhatched eggs had also started to hatch one after another over the past few days. Aside from being a little smaller than the ones she had seen before, they were all perfectly healthy.
Moira Lynch nodded in satisfaction at the sight.
She didn’t know the growth cycle of the interstellar animals, but she was familiar with the ones from Caelus.
’At this rate, I’ll probably have an unlimited supply of chicken, duck, and fish in another six months.’
After checking on everything one by one, Moira went to look at the few saplings.
The saplings she had planted later had become as lush and leafy as the first two.
And the Bone Marrow Cleansing Fruit and Medicine Fruit trees, which were planted first, had actually started to blossom.
’Blossoming means they’ll bear fruit. It seems my space is truly well-suited for these trees to grow.’
After she had checked on everything, Moira began to study the machines she had brought out of the game earlier.
’I have to admit, these things are really useful. They’re a bit old, but it doesn’t affect their performance at all, and they’re fully automated.’
Previously, while her space didn’t require her to do things by hand, it would only act on tasks like harvesting when she thought of them. If she never noticed something was ready, the crops would just stay where they were.
But with these machines, that kind of situation would never happen.
Sowing, watering, and harvesting were all automatically identified and handled.
The machines could also automatically feed the chickens, ducks, and geese, as well as clean up and collect the eggs they laid.
Only after she had looked over every area did she finally leave her space.
The air conditioning at home was running high, so Moira didn’t feel any discomfort upon returning.
She turned on the TV. It was reporting on the incident at the mall earlier that day. All the suspects involved had been arrested.
Moira watched the footage on the screen. A massive bolt of purple lightning struck one of the thugs directly, killing him on the spot.
At that moment, only two words came to Moira’s mind: ’So powerful!’
’But can someone who just awakened their Talent be this powerful?’
Moira had looked up the classifications of Talents on the Learning Machine.
In the interstellar world, Talents were divided into four categories. The first was the Elemental System, which included things like water, fire, earth, wind, light, lightning, ice, and wood.
The second was Body Enhancement. As the name implied, it meant one’s physical strength became far greater than a normal person’s, or a specific body part or sense was enhanced—for example, the hands, feet, eyes, ears, nose, or even the voice.
The third category was the Spiritual System. Moira’s own Spiritual Talent was a prime example. The Spiritual System was further divided into many sub-classifications like Mind Communication and Spirit Control.
Generally speaking, the Spiritual System was like a mother category; someone who awakened a Spiritual Talent could also perform abilities like Mind Communication and Spirit Control.
The final category was the Special Series of Talents. Things like space and healing belonged to this Special Series.
Looking back at the TV screen, she saw that the Talent wielder using lightning was accompanied by a petite girl.
At that moment, Moira strongly suspected the girl must have awakened a buff-type Talent.
This was a Talent even rarer than a Healing Talent. Like someone with a Healing Talent, they had little to no offensive power and couldn’t heal injuries. Their only function was to increase a companion’s combat effectiveness.
’However, there are many sub-classifications for this type of Talent, too. I wonder which one that girl has.’
"After this incident, those people stirring up trouble in the shadows should probably quiet down for a bit."
She opened her phone. The internet was still a complete mess, with people saying all sorts of things.
There were pessimists urging everyone to live it up while they could, and many others proclaiming the apocalypse was coming, calling for people to hoard supplies. Their motto was basically, "As long as hoarding doesn’t kill you, hoard until you die."
Moira even saw many posts asking for help.
Apparently, some people had driven out to scramble for supplies, only for their cars to break down midway. When they tried to find a mechanic, they either couldn’t find one or the one they found demanded an exorbitant price.
Besides, everyone knew that money’s purchasing power was plummeting. Even with money, you couldn’t necessarily buy supplies, so those who were jacking up their prices were all demanding payment in goods.
Many people were posting online for help, condemning these price-gougers, but no one paid them any mind.
Others posted distress calls. The temperature was too high, and the elderly or children at home had fainted from heatstroke. The ambulance was taking forever to arrive, and they were pleading for a kind soul to help take them to the hospital.
These kinds of messages were also being ignored.
’Are you kidding me? It’s so hot out right now, a normal car can’t handle it. Not to mention, gas prices are skyrocketing.’
Seeing this, Moira glanced at the electric scooter charging in the living room.
She had actually noticed it herself. On her recent trips out, her electric scooter’s battery drained unusually fast. Her phone’s battery was draining quickly too.
’And this is a brand-new scooter. Although I have several more in my space, I can’t afford to waste them like this.’
She made up her mind to go out and buy a few more electric scooters tomorrow.
’Since there’s a limited amount of food I can buy with money right now, I might as well use it to buy other things.’
Just then, another message popped up on her phone.
A message from Ryan Hayes stated that today’s temperature had broken the sixty-degree mark. It reminded everyone to be careful of heatstroke and was accompanied by a picture of an overcrowded hospital.
’It broke sixty degrees? No wonder it felt especially hot today.’
She opened the game forums again and looked around for a bit before going to her private messages.
Although she had expected many people to contact her, she was still taken aback when she saw the "999+" notification for her messages.
There were all sorts of people inside. Some were trying to cozy up to her, some were looking for freebies, others were attempting to guilt-trip her, and there were even some asking to be her sugar baby.
Moira blocked the first three types of people. As for the last group, she decided to just pretend she hadn’t seen them. Compared to the first three types, who made her uncomfortable, the last one was obviously not so unforgivable.
’At least...’
’The ladies have nice figures.’
Moira wiped away the non-existent drool from the corner of her mouth. ’Looks like my disguise was a success; they all think I’m a guy.’
The remaining messages were from people who wanted to continue buying machines from her.
